It seems like the game reads button inputs as some type of option select. Why does it make me do downward teleport instead of the air ball during an air combo? Specifically, after I roll on the ground to launch, then follow up with the square triangle air combo....it forces me to do the teleport when I'm clearing inputting the air ball. Teleport is done with triangle and ball is with circle. I don't get it. Seems like every character has something like that. So basically, I can't do certain air combos with air ball cuz teleport comes out instead. Can you explain that?

I want people to lab the coolest stuff in this game but I also want to be able to say that I was the one who found something crucial for a huge character in a huge fighting game. @@mikeestill1672 I had the same issue, that's because you press 1,2,2 db4 instead 1,2, db4 in the air combo and the game reads 2db same as db2 which is air teleport because of one option "input shortcuts", you just should turn off a "input shortcuts" in controls
You missied important info: EX down teleport is armored move. Also I found quite interesting that her sweep is +2 on block (and some characters have + or 0 on block sweeps, while for example in SF6 sweeps are punishable)
So this is a very different style of guide of how I normally do it. Easiest giveaway is its not an hour long lol. Normally Combos & Guides are two different videos, but the idea here is to merge the two, and give you a "here's all the basics you need" and get you on your way in a shorter format. 25 minutes is still long, but for me its very short lol. The idea is twofold, a more attractive beginner guide for a casual audience, once that doesn't scare you off being an hour long, and frankly, its a lot easier for me to make this kind of guide, I did this in 1 day, normally the big tips guides take multiple days to make. That said let me know if you like this shorter style of guide format and integrating combos into it in one video. This is new territory for me so comments very welcome, and just FYI it doesn't mean the hour long guides are going anywhere, that will still happen I can assure you, it just means I can make more guides for you overall.

This is perfect timing for me. I never expected I might be a Mileena player, but I've been going through the cast trying to settle on my top couple of picks...and I'm digging her.
Same as, I never had any interest in playing mileena in older games to the point that when I was first combing through the cast I skipped her but when after playing her in story mode I'm really considering it
I just have to say you very quickly became my favorite TH-camr in general. You don’t even have to be covering a game I play but I still watch the videos anyway simply because of the quality and calm personality. I really hope smoke is high on your list for guides because doing the combos are easy but understanding what to use and why is being a bigger struggle than I thought it would be.
haven't played a Mortal Kombat game since Mortal Kombat Trilogy on N64 when I was a kid.. pretty overwhelming to get back into it but you are one of the best at teaching! Kudos good sir!
@user-ti5rb1mx5x I have managed to get the combos down and memorized the moves, but movement seems to be where I am stuck. Hard for me to tell when to move forward/back and when to dash, hopefully a movement guide incoming!

Hey rooflemonger, I think at minute 14:18 when you show the combo at the bottom there is a string missing. After the jump 22 you do a db4 to air roll, just in case somebody is wondering when doing the combo. Thank you for this big Mileena guide, it really helped me to learn the character. :)

Appreciate the guide, exactly at the right level. Was looking to try out Mileena, this gave me a general understanding of her gameplan and basic strings and combos to start with! This is my first MK game since MK2, so the beginner level content really helps!
Because you asked, love the new format, i dont think its particularly better or worse because i watch/listen to basically all of yours. But i honestly cant find a fault with this guide or format, and if it helps YOU, get content out faster or get better interaction/youtube jazz, im all for it! Good shit!

Haven't got MK1 yet, coz priorities, but when I do, know this video convinced me to try Mileena. I love rushdown types like this. No lows, true, but assists exist in this game.
Good stuff. I really like these more truncated character introduction format. Its enough to let me know if i want to invest in learning the character but if i I dont want to play every character then, this is more than enough information to not only learn to mess around with the toon, but how to build a working strat for dealing when them while on your main. Overall some of the best MK1 kontent of its type, keep it up!!!

I thought the guide was great honestly. I think that making a 15-20 minute guide in this game may be very difficult due to the amount of information that you can cover for all these characters with the introduction of Kameos. I don't intend to play Mileena but since you wanted feedback on your new shorter form guide content I had to give it a watch

Im generally new to fighting games (played mk9 when it came out and, sf6 recently) and i love how easy to follow this is. The only basic thing im struggling with is special cancelling. I'm not consistent of doing it consistently. This guide makes me want to keep trying though. Keep it up!

Excellent guide as usual! May be shorter than your usual guides, but it covers all the basics we needed to know about Mileena, and it's probably better for one of my friends, as he sadly lacks the patience to sit through a 40-60 minute guide. (Not that I mind those guides myself) Still, given the nature of MK1 with its Kameos, it can't helped that the guides will still be long, but this guide covered a lot within 25 minutes. ^^

I wanted to pick up Mileena since Sub Zero doesn't feel great and you're the only one who really took the time to explain her strings and gave good basic BnBs for specific moves you land where other creators would just give you 10 different combos and you have to figure out what works with what. Excellent starter guide and I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of fun learning the character
I'm new to mk but I found the second combo 14:07 much easier to do the first dash manually instead of buffering it as I had trouble finding the correct timing for the buffer I hope this helps anyone that was struggling like I was trying to buffer the dash thanks for the great guide anyways
Great guide! I liked the format quite a bit and I think this gives a really good starting off point, as always very high quality. What helps me as a new player to many of these games is what to do with oki or successful exchanges in general to keep up pressure on a character specific basis. You covered that within some of the guide, but if it works with any of your future content it might help to just have a section on that itself.
I was using Scorpion with her, and she gets crazy combos off him (especially off her EX roll), but now I'm thinking Scorpion doubles down too much and just gives her new damage that she doesn't really need. The coolness factor is through the roof, but her bad neutral remains, so the options you present serve a more practical approach. It's good to think outside of the box of just combo extensions and more damage.
Hey Roof - I know this isn't a Nitara vid but I've been having a lot of trouble getting her diagonal down-forward (1/3 direction) air dash cancel after j124 consistently. I've tried early, late, on hit timing, etc. and it seems pretty random when it comes out. You seem pretty good at investigating and communicating these things so I'd love if you can put a Nitara guide on your docket to explore her and break down some of her input stuff! Regardless, keep up the good work and keep these character guides coming!

I'm not sure if you keep up with this kinda stuff, but I saw you use DSP as an example in one of your videos and I learned so much from watching what he was doing wrong. Today, during his early stream, he played MK1 online and lost a crazy amount of times, all while making excuses about how it wasn't his fault and trashing the game calling it garbage for several hours. It would be incredibly informative and honestly entertaining if you were to dissect some of his gameplay so a newbie like me could learn from his stubborn mistakes. Fought a Mileena the other day who basically just stood back and zoned while throwing a ball roll or teleport out whenever she read me trying to counter zone or approach recklessly. I can see why they made her sais not go full screen now. Was playing Havik with Cyrax kameo so didn’t have all the tools for the job there but still was kinda terrifying.

I wish you did Tanya. I'd love to get your take on a 2-layer hit confirm for her, how to use her B344 most effectively, and how to find parry moments and execute them consistently. I'm also having trouble pressuring with her. Like, yeah, there are other characters way better at pressure, but there are so many players who don't respond well to pressure and I'm having difficulty exploiting that. Another thing I have trouble with is getting zoned by someone like Shang. Is there a way to get through this without switching to a Sub-zero kameo for armor? And what Kameo ideas do you have for Tanya? Not just what is good and against who, but what is bad and why? I think people don't cover enough of what makes a kameo bad or less effective. What are the best ways to get Seeking Guidance and what are the best ways to use it? Like, best ways to turn it into kombos or best ways to use Umgadi Dodge. She's so multi-faceted and she's totally top tier and she's being ignored. MK1 is the first time I've ever played online and these are the things I'm struggling with. As a bonus, I'd love to know some lab strategies in practice mode for her. Like, I want to use practice mode efficiently as possible with her in ways that translate to live game improvement. I did toss you a Twitch subscription, btw, because I appreciate you so much. You have 50 ways to support you, LOL, so I picked one. My username over there is heartofhearing. Thank you for your time.
So I I’ve heard about this glitch in Mortal Kombat one where player twos hit box (around hitting limbs) this is actually smaller than player 1’s. So the special advantage that you’re talking about at 6:25 could potentially be kitana with the smaller Hitbox, and not being able to reach. Now I could be wrong about this because I heard it’s mostly with moves mixed in with a combo, but I wonder if this also affects simple attacks. Would love to talk more about this.

ive been having a hard time with the second mileena bread n butter combo. Ive been haveing a hard time connecting the dash 21 to roll.

Hey Roof, new viewer here and absolutely loving the informative content. I'm not sure if you keep up with this kinda stuff, but I saw you use DSP as an example in one of your videos and I learned so much from watching what he was doing wrong. Today, during his early stream, he played MK1 online and lost a crazy amount of times, all while making excuses about how it wasn't his fault and trashing the game calling it garbage for several hours. It would be incredibly informative and honestly entertaining if you were to dissect some of his gameplay so a newbie like me could learn from his stubborn mistakes. Anyway, great channel and looking forward to watching more of your content!

Fought a Mileena the other day who basically just stood back and zoned while throwing a ball roll or teleport out whenever she read me trying to counter zone or approach recklessly. I can see why they made her sais not go full screen now. Was playing Havik with Cyrax kameo so didn’t have all the tools for the job there but still was kinda terrifying.

I wish you did Tanya. I'd love to get your take on a 2-layer hit confirm for her, how to use her B344 most effectively, and how to find parry moments and execute them consistently. I'm also having trouble pressuring with her. Like, yeah, there are other characters way better at pressure, but there are so many players who don't respond well to pressure and I'm having difficulty exploiting that. Another thing I have trouble with is getting zoned by someone like Shang. Is there a way to get through this without switching to a Sub-zero kameo for armor? And what Kameo ideas do you have for Tanya? Not just what is good and against who, but what is bad and why? I think people don't cover enough of what makes a kameo bad or less effective. What are the best ways to get Seeking Guidance and what are the best ways to use it? Like, best ways to turn it into kombos or best ways to use Umgadi Dodge. She's so multi-faceted and she's totally top tier and she's being ignored. MK1 is the first time I've ever played online and these are the things I'm struggling with. As a bonus, I'd love to know some lab strategies in practice mode for her. Like, I want to use practice mode efficiently as possible with her in ways that translate to live game improvement. So I I’ve heard about this glitch in Mortal Kombat one where player twos hit box (around hitting limbs) this is actually smaller than player 1’s. So the special advantage that you’re talking about at 6:25 could potentially be kitana with the smaller Hitbox, and not being able to reach. Now I could be wrong about this because I heard it’s mostly with moves mixed in with a combo, but I wonder if this also affects simple attacks. Would love to talk more about this.
