    My 1997 Series 1 diesel Disco. 250,000k with not a spanner on it apart from regular maintenance. It's been to hell and back, and to hell and back. Still goes and looks like new. Thanks, Land Rover.

    If a transfer lever is too complicated for you, you shouldnt be offroad.

      You still have to go to low range on the D2 so I don't get what they're saying it's silly

    HAHAHAH 3:50 "Removes the need for lockable central diff" That's why you put it back in three years later Land Rover, eh? Hahaha

      Honestly unless you're going extremely hard off road you'll probably never need it. I'm daily driving a '93 mpi and i do a bit off roading on my free time, never had to use the center diff lock. Low range i do use regularly though. In the 30 years of the trucks life it might have only had the center diff engaged 3 maybe 4 times? While removing it was a dumb idea on principle, it probably wasn't that much of a loss.

    HDC actually works in low range neutral and any low range. I don't really use it much I live in a very rocky place where it's not very effective but when I find a smooth Hill I purposely put it in second or third to let it work on its own instead of engine braking from 1st gear and you can feel it actually does grab pretty well each brake independently. First gear low actually uses so much engine braking that despite the owner's manual telling you to use it and it being the safest which is true if you really want to feel how well the hill descent Works put it in second or third low range on a safe but longer surface and let it do its job just for fun. Then you realize Firstgear hold you back so much hill-descent barely did much. This all shows you that first gear is doing most of the work. So low range neutral second or third Hill descent to feel it work for fun

    This is the best review I've come across yet puts me a bit more at ease actually seeing it being driven the way from an all perspective view
    I got actually got one of these but the V8 model which I ended up trading on a surplus wagon to my requirements for specifically towing my boat which I haven't really done so as yet mainly due to the fact of it not being totally ready for the water although I had done so once for a water test just down at the local boat ramp which in my books doesn't really count
    I also pulled out a tree stump once which I found it done to my surprise with ease in low gear
    But all in all have previously had my doubts about this unit being fully able to live upto it's hype
    It's an absolute pig on the gas probably the worst wagon I've ever owned for it
    And the power off the mark as well as all round performance of the V8 were an absolute disappointment or should I say embarrassment
    I won't go so much into detail but to cut a long story short when I obtained this vehicle it involved a 2000 km 24 hr return trip journey so just bit the bullet at the time not forgetting the purpose for which this trade were originally for and went through with the deal
    But must say now at least certainly feel a bit more ease after seeing this review
    Would be nice how ever to get another owners perspective as well
    Thanks

    The land rover discovery D2 wasn't very appealing in Australia, but once they bought the D2A out and reinstated the centre diff lock plus all the other goodies we were happy

      The Discovery 2 was launched at the Paris Motor Show on 29th September 1998.
      LR Model years start september-october so the early D2's are MY1999 but have a 1998 build date.

    • @jockwood2398

      Project Storm was part of a massive investment for a complete new range of modular diesel engines for Rover and Land Rover, it was envisaged to be a 1.5 ltr 3 cylinder, 2.0 ltr 4 cylinder, 2.5 ltr 5 cylinder and a 3.0 ltr 6 cylinder. The rover group planned this huge development on the basis that the costs would be recovered over the whole range of engines, however BMW took over the group and cancelled all of the variants which mirrored theirs, the only version that survived to production was the 2.5 5 cylinder td5 as it was found it was impossible to fit a BMW 6 cylinder into the Discovery or Defender. It makes you wonder how great the other variants could have been

    The original D1 was a far better truck - No troublesome electronic crap and spare parts are much cheaper - Just take a look at the prices on the second hand market if you don't agree - a 98 TDi -300 will fetch a much higher price than a 99 TD5 in the same condition - Two lessons to be learned here Land Rover - 1, If it ain't broke don't fix it and 2, KISS Keep it Simple Stupid.

    • @wingsofimmortal1ksubgoal122
      @wingsofimmortal1ksubgoal122 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell them that now! Seems like KISS has turned into; "Kiss My Ass we don't care what you want from our vehicles mom's all over thr world will buy them anyway"
      Their obvious platform sharing from vehicle to vehicle is horrendously embarrassing.

  • @markdupoise4132
    @markdupoise4132 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a Disco 2 NOT a discovery 1 as a 1998 would be...I own one. This labelling of the video is wrong, the tail lights are a dead giveaway.
