Hi I am a 23y/o from Texas who bought a van and am gonna be living in it pretty soon.. my parents have been acting extremely abusive towards me and I just dont make enough money to live in an apartment, so I’ve decided on doing this instead. I just wanna say thanks for making these videos because it helps me with gaining the confidence to make the next step and try to get away from these people who have become so comfortable with abusing me. ❤ Thnx
What a terrible living situation 😢 more so Because they are your parents. I'm SO sorry. Maybe van life is perfect for you 😊 YOU can decide what "backyard" you'd like when you want! 🙏🏻 My bf & I got it van about a year ago...Still building it out, but looking forward to life on the road...even though I'm pretty scared myself, NGL Best of luck on your journey to FREEDOM 🙏🏻😌 *Stay Safe out there, both of you*
... don't worry about finding places to "car camp" - you're in Homeless central - Oregon , pick a spot up in the Nat. forest for your nights and then spend the day at the beach ... I do this until it turns cold , then head south , usually Padre island for the winter ... safe travels ...
Hi Megan. New sub here. I recently left the OR coast. Everyone talked about how beautiful it was, but I learned there is a high crime rate throughout the coastal cities, so you do want to be thoughtful. Lincoln City had been my fav area UNTIL there was a literal shootout and police surrounded a house. I'd been stealth-camping there for about 2 weeks before that. As a fellow female solo traveler, I've been doing this for nearly 10 years, and hadn't experienced anything like that. So take heart. I did leave however after that happened. I'm now working my way down the Cali coast. Safe and happy travels!
I’ve lived in Seattle since’78; I’m 68 now. EVERYTHING CHANGED in Seattle, downtown core and nearby neighborhoods about 15 years ago. ADDICTS everywhere. And with it…CRIME. I’ve seen homeless camps on sidewalks with boxes of DeWalt power tools. Sealed. For cheap. Clothing…with the price tags still on. ALL…STOLEN.
Oregon coast does.not have a hi crime rate. There are just many more tourist during summer and early fall months. Just like any other city. Our coast is fabulous. We just spent the whole summer going up and down the coast in our rv.
Hey Freya! That is so scary. I am glad you moved on safely and that makes me feel very thankful that I listened to my gut feeling when I came across some sketchy behavior. Enjoy California ❤
i did the same thing you did for 6 months across 14 western states and i must say it is the most liberating thing i ever did in my life. living the moment and experiencing the natural beauty god has bestow upon us will open your eyes to what is important in life. when my time is up i will be content with the fact that i for once try to live my life to the fullest. keep doing your thing. looks like washington coast, very beautiful. i will say hi to you whenever i see you on the road someday.
New viewer, also full-time in a van for nearly 2-years now. Let me try with the rocks… Agate - the “a” sound is like in “and.” And the “e” is silent at the end. The “gat” sound is like “cat.” So combine “A-GAT” and basically any rock that is clear in parts or translucent (“glowy”) qualifies as an agate, and yes, they are all over the coast. My mom was an old Seaside girl and I grew up car camping with my parents all over the West Coast bec mom had family in Oregon and Dad in Washington, and we lived in L.A. I had to “relearn” that agates are all over the Southern Desert area of SoCal, Nev and AZ too! Last winter I hung out in AZ and found a ton in the dispersed camping….anyway, always follow your gut without apology. If you don’t feel safe, then move. It’s the total blessing of being mobile! I’m happy to see you having fun! For me, it’s been a total blast getting into this lifestyle after years of “normal….” I”ve missed camping and missed traveling and missed being on the road so much!! ❤
Really enjoyed my first video I've seen of yours last week or so. This popped up in my recommended moments after being uploaded and I was reminded of your content again. Thanks for giving me something peaceful to watch this Sunday evening before work in the AM :)
I saw your video by accident on my feed and watched it through and saw a GDLS cup . I used to work for them after the army and I was stationed in at FT Lewis in Washington. You hit a nostalgia button for sure ! Love the rig as well!
@@MeganClaarke certainly a coincidence lol was interesting to see how the algorithm put you into my feed off my interest in over landing and bush plane camping videos . Subscribed now 🫡
It's pronounced "ag-it" and there's a beach called Agate Beach near Newport that is well worth a visit. Great to see you on our beautiful Oregon Coast! Safe travels! 😊
OMG looks so beautiful. Makes me wanna go out there myself. I converted my 2012 Prius V into a camper lol and have been enjoying it and have gone to a lot of the lakes in Texas and even took like a week long trip to go visit the coast, but I mostly stick to state parks just because one Texas has so many of them and it feels much safer to me And I grew up in state park so it gives me a sense of comfort lol but also you can always carry stun guns. I keep two of them in my car, one mini handheld one that I carry around with me if I go to the bathroom or hiking, and then a huge one that I keep in the side of my door next to my bed just in case lol so far the only thing I’ve had to scare away was a straight dog, but has been super fun the past like two or three years lol I did like three versions of my car and have had fun every time!
Megan, I do the same kind of camping that you do, except in the back seat of my Crew Cab pickup. I've recently purchased a 9 mm with a 17 round magazine. I always keep it within easy reach when I bed down for the night. You can't imagine how much more secure I feel after 30 years of camping out this way in some pretty dark and remote places. I highly recommend you follow suit. It'll do wonders for your peace of mind. There's nothing like the sound of chambering a round to put some potential bad guy on notice that you mean business.
Hello. I just came across your channel and subscribed. I look forward to keeping up with your camping adventures. How long have you been camping in your car for?
I've driven on that coast before, it is always misty there and as you've put it, makes it all the more 'mystical'. It feels like a setting to a movie, you know, where this lonely eccentric writer has a secluded cabin there and while writing his fifth horror novel, weird things starts happening. Everything just feels........ off. He disregards these feelings, attributing it to cabin fever...... but little does he know what is about to unfold.
Hey Lucas! I use MusicBed for my music. It is not the cheapest, but I'm picky with music so it is totally worth it. I have referral link that gives a 14 day free trial: www.musicbed.com/invite/iOQi8 My video editing software, on the other hand, is super cheap because I bought in a $75 lifetime subscription years ago. Not sure they offer that deal anymore... It's called Wondershare Filmore and it is super basic. I'd also consider the free version of DaVinci Resolve - which is a great program. 😊
Be safe, there is a pepper pistol for sale in the USA you might consider buying while on this side of the border. It's obnoxiously colored so it's obviously not a real gun.
Hahaha yes!! A couple videos were filmed this summer, and I had to get them out for the sponsorships. My Oregon trip was back in May! A bit behind schedule here 😄
A van and an SUV are 2 different animals. Therefore, if you're living in an SUV, it's called SUV life, not van life. Enjoy your SUV life and stay safe.
You gotta be honest too, you’re probably more at risk for getting into a dangerous situation living in your car. That being said, your anxiety is there for a reason. Trust your gut
There are a ton of places to sleep on the Oregon coast. You need to be more focused on the amount of Cartel that runs the forests around here. Oregon is not the safe pristine place you influencers make it seem. This State is dangerous! Dont be fooled, if you plan to visit...keep your head on a swivel and trust no one. Stay safe
Oregon is the best place to do what you are doing. It still sucks, though. Finding a bathroom is a pain in the ass. So is brushing your teeth. It’s cold down there by the beach, too. Find a rich dude to put a roof over your head.
Hahaha omg this comment scared me until I watched it back. The dashboard lights all flash on when I start up. This is part of it running its own little diagnostic session 😄

Good thing you didn't go to Central Oregon Coast, they love to target anyone in Van or RV living.

Hey Mike! I am not camping full-time. The longest was four months then I took a winter break. My trip to Oregon was for almost 2 months :)
Get rid of the piano music in the background. In my opinion, it is distracting while you're talking. It takes away from your video, in my opinion.
