My dads dementia the last 2yrs. got really bad. Scary bad and it ripped my heart out because I was alone with him and my mother who also had dementia and colon cancer. When she past my dad's got worse and his temper became scary. I don't wish dementia on any body. It's extremely painful to watch your parents go threw so much confusion and in circles. They both past with in 2yrs of each other and it's left me and my siblings heart broken.
I love this man, he has such a caring personality, wants to make sure there is enough food for everyone. How sweet he is. Bless your heart for being there for him.
Somehow a dose of watching you and Ed helps me as I try and help my dad through his dementia days. I am fortunate that he is also very passive and good natured. He'll be 100 in September and still as fit as a fiddle and incredibly needs no medication . Like you I have the same questions on money, where's his car, where's his mum and dad, he's going home. It's extremely hard work but has moments of absolute joy. When we go out to the shops everyone wants to talk to him or give him a smile. People are so wonderful. I've certainly learnt a lot and you take heart from where ever I can, your clips included.
I really like how you respond to your dad’s questions and queries in dignified way without making him realise or feel bad about his disease. Your love for your Dad bought tears in my eyes. God bless you Dan.
I believe it is some nice young ghost lady visiting grandpa in his bedroom! 😬🥰❤️Actually I believe that people with brain illnesses are more prone to seeing people from other world..
I love how you never chastise him or ever make him feel bad about a question he asks, even if it is completely out of the blue and makes no sense. You just assure him that “you’ll figure it out together”. The way you handle his questions is the perfect way to handle a family member with dementia.
3:03 kinda makes me wonder if he has glimmers of memories of Josh's mom. He's such a trooper and even though these moments may be trying, it shows just how strong he is. It shows how strong you and Danielle are and these situations display how beautiful the love you guys have for each other even though it's not always spoken.
Before my father who had dementia passed, he constantly said he had to drive people places. It was every night. He was very adamant that the people were here and he had to drive them home. I would tell him it’s getting late and he needed to go to bed, but I would be happy to take them home. I assured him I would make sure that they got home. He would be good with that. I felt I was a spirt Uber driver.
One time my mother in law was insisting she had to call someone to let them know where she was. I just told her I have their number and I was going to go call them right away to let them know. She was so relieved and off to bed she went, as did I.
Our next door neighbor who had dementia would come over and visit with my husband at least once a day. She was great. She had great sense of humor even though nothing made sense. My husband was so good to her he would just listen and laugh with her. She would stay for about 30 minutes and then say well time to go and off she went. One day towards the end of her life she told him he had always been the one. ❤ Rest in peace Susan we love you.
What a great couple you were and how that cheered her days up. Now sadly she is passed, so your hubby can call and chat with me! JUST KIDDING!!!! I think you are both awesome and kind!
It's common for those who have dementia and Parkinson's, as the disease's progresses, they will begin to see apparitions and interact with people that you cannot see. I remember one lady I used to take care of. I used to think that her house was like a great big train station with all the people coming and going. She would start talking to people who weren't there even children, leaning down and patting them on the head. We would ask her to describe the people and she would tell us what they look like what they were wearing and then she'd even tell us the stories that they had told her about their life. At night we'd hear her talking to them and when we asked her who she was talking to, she would describe what they look like, what they were wearing and what they were talking about.
My mom passed in 84 leaving me my Nana to take care of with Alzheimer’s, on her birthday in 85 she said my mom was at the foot of her bed waiving for her to come on lets go , 3 days later Nana passed , i was 21 and it affected me to this day , i miss those two women more than anyone could imagine ❤

Hi. Funny I would run across this video. I'm in Elk Grove California too. I lost my mom in 2000. She lived with me 5 years as her disease got worse. The best advice I got in dealing with her disease was do not try to correct what the person is saying, get into their reality as much as you can. She had sundowners so I was constantly on edge that she would escape at night. We were lucky and always caught her before she left. Good luck with your dad.
Dan, my dad has sundowners and this discourse sounds very familiar… its a back and forth bantering .. sometimes I think it’s fear or the fear of confusion … my dad gets upset when he cannot recall a familiar face ! He just wants normalcy as her recalls it back in the day… Ty guys for sharing this with the world, it either affirms or teaches ! Either way, pops is very bright is so so many ways ! Love is patient, love is kind ❤ ⭕️ ❤
As full time caregiver to my husband with advanced Alzheimers, I love watching your videos of your dad. I'm sure he's referring to Danielle as to "the woman". In the video from early in the morning when Danielle saw him in the kitchen, you could see he was confused as to why there was a woman in "his house". He thought it was his house and she said she lives with him. That carried over into this video that you took Dan. He's referring to Danielle. Danielle needs a t-shirt that says "I AM DANS WIFE". It's a real gift that your dad can still read! Maybe a big pin that she can wear each day or a cap that says I AM DANS WIFE that she can put on anytime, day or night. His level of confusion is nothing compared to how he will be as the dementia advances. Hopefully since he has vascular dementia and his Blood Pressure is now under control, his dementia won't worsen too much. Either way, you're doing a great job! Hang in there!! 🤞🌷
Yeah he thinks Danielle being there in his house, is this sweet young girl who needs a man to take care of her. Dan has some stiff competition he has to deal with, if Ed were younger then I don’t know. Lol.
Dan I respect you and appreciate you. No matter what dad does or says and I am sure it’s frustrating…you always talk to him with respect and your love shows. So happy to see how much you love your dad.

@joebert3286 My dad is just starting his journey. So, right now, we are learning how to help him when he's confused. In a way, I am very blessed. They live in 2 different states, and I'm the only one residing in one of the states. This allows me special one on one time to learn his quirks and what is and isn't working for him right now. The Salinger's have taught me so much. I'm so sorry for the losses you have had. 💔

Im guessing some some lady that has been living a little stressed housing situation and follows online and see's how well Danielle and Dan take care of Pop's and cooks his meals, etc., has snuck in
One thing that's for sure he is definitely attracted to Danielle! Who can blame him... It's Perfectly Natural to want to have a companion!!! I'm a 71 year old woman and that's how I feel! I'm always looking for a companion!😊
My mother in law was 93 with dementia. Her backyard was up against a large cemetery. One day she was smiling and laughing while sitting outside on her deck. When we asked her what was so funny, she said she was watching the “residents” in the cemetery. I swear I was starting to believe her! Everyday she was looking for a little girl. 😃
My grandma kept seeing a baby running down the hall. I think it was a memory from my son was young. Then she stated seeing her deceased husband checking the mail ...I finally thought maybe?? Shortly after she passed I really wondered if that was him coming to get her. they were married for over 50 years. Nowadays, I'd like to think that was the case!
My Mama was 93 she had severe conjestiive heart failure, Alzheimer's and a stroke. Her last few weeks she would see members if her family that had passed years ago.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
My friend was only 55 when she was diagnosed ,and had an aggressive form of Alzheimer. She use to tell her husband about the shadow people. Once he put her in the nursing home he found out how real the shadow people were. He first had what he thought was a dream,. He dreamed he wrestled one and it shoved him against the door so hard that the door stopper put a hole in the wall. It was so real he decided to check the wall for the hole, and sure enough there was a hole in the wall. Then one day while he was wide awake a shadow figured grabbed him around the waste trying to tackle him. Then it was gone. He felt horrible for not realizing she was actually seeing those things. Rest in Peace Elaine.
I wonder As they entered dementia, does it allow them to see Things like children are allowed to see things that normally we wouldn't be able to see such as spirits
Perhaps entities, entities such as spirits know the state of mind and they allow themselves to be seen , and they communicate with elderly people like they do with children
With all this caring man goes through daily. Strong leadership as a man and father when told his good is already prepared for him to respond " what about yours and what about Danielle's" Bless this man and family
Maybe he was thinking of a young lady he was dating before he met his wife.I used to work on a dementia unit, and one of my patients was always looking for his daughters, I was told his wife divorced him when they were young. You just never know sometimes. Keep sharing and keep up the good work, Dan.
Yes my work also. He may be remembering someone he had a relationship with. Or he may be hallucinating. Keep an eye out Dan for infection. Particularly UTI❤
Its true. Infections can make them alusinate. Bladder or other infections. My father had a will under his bed and he used to drink really clear water from it. Also there was a young guy selling him belts at the end of his bed. There was nobody there that I could see.
He gets a little confused now but he's a great guy with a gorgeous personality and I can only imagine what a fabulous man he must have been back in the day. God bless and take care of you, Pops.

One thing that's for sure he is definitely attracted to Danielle! Who can blame him... It's Perfectly Natural to want to have a companion!!! I'm a 71 year old woman and that's how I feel! I'm always looking for a companion!😊

Oh, God bless him! ❤
OMGoodnes ! He is so precious !
Maybe he thinks he's in his own home and seeing Danielle around he thinks she's moved in with him 🤔
Long term memories are the last to leave. He is confusing the past with now. You handle it so well!
Yes. My uncle started seeing his deceased friends and family on a daily basis for 3months before he passed away.
My Mama was 93 she had severe conjestiive heart failure, Alzheimer's and a stroke. Her last few weeks she would see members if her family that had passed years ago.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.

Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun.
God bless you Dan you take good care of your father I love watching your video take care
❤😊❤
As they get into dementia, they start to see people
True. This was a big issue with my mother. Sometimes she was afraid of them.
I wonder As they entered dementia, does it allow them to see Things like children are allowed to see things that normally we wouldn't be able to see such as spirits
Perhaps entities, entities such as spirits know the state of mind and they allow themselves to be seen , and they communicate with elderly people like they do with children
Exactly, nothing wrong with that. My mother used to see a 3 years old girl in her bedroom.
Lewy Body Dementia is a form of Alzheimer's where they will speak of seeing people that we do not see , very common .
With all this caring man goes through daily. Strong leadership as a man and father when told his good is already prepared for him to respond " what about yours and what about Danielle's"
Bless this man and family
Maybe he was thinking of a young lady he was dating before he met his wife.I used to work on a dementia unit, and one of my patients was always looking for his daughters, I was told his wife divorced him when they were young. You just never know sometimes. Keep sharing and keep up the good work, Dan.
Did his daughters ever visit him?
Yes my work also. He may be remembering someone he had a relationship with. Or he may be hallucinating. Keep an eye out Dan for infection. Particularly UTI❤
That makes sense
Its true. Infections can make them alusinate. Bladder or other infections.
My father had a will under his bed and he used to drink really clear water from it. Also there was a young guy selling him belts at the end of his bed. There was nobody there that I could see.
