Our next door neighbor who had dementia would come over and visit with my husband at least once a day. She was great. She had great sense of humor even though nothing made sense. My husband was so good to her he would just listen and laugh with her. She would stay for about 30 minutes and then say well time to go and off she went. One day towards the end of her life she told him he had always been the one. ❤ Rest in peace Susan we love you.
What a great couple you were and how that cheered her days up. Now sadly she is passed, so your hubby can call and chat with me! JUST KIDDING!!!! I think you are both awesome and kind!
I believe it is some nice young ghost lady visiting grandpa in his bedroom! 😬🥰❤️Actually I believe that people with brain illnesses are more prone to seeing people from other world..
Before my father who had dementia passed, he constantly said he had to drive people places. It was every night. He was very adamant that the people were here and he had to drive them home. I would tell him it’s getting late and he needed to go to bed, but I would be happy to take them home. I assured him I would make sure that they got home. He would be good with that. I felt I was a spirt Uber driver.
One time my mother in law was insisting she had to call someone to let them know where she was. I just told her I have their number and I was going to go call them right away to let them know. She was so relieved and off to bed she went, as did I.
The two of you are adorable together. Your dad must be a great dad because even in his confusion, he always asks if you’re alright, or if you need something. Your parents raised you right because you’re a great son.

Somehow a dose of watching you and Ed helps me as I try and help my dad through his dementia days. I am fortunate that he is also very passive and good natured. He'll be 100 in September and still as fit as a fiddle and incredibly needs no medication . Like you I have the same questions on money, where's his car, where's his mum and dad, he's going home. It's extremely hard work but has moments of absolute joy. When we go out to the shops everyone wants to talk to him or give him a smile. People are so wonderful. I've certainly learnt a lot and you take heart from where ever I can, your clips included.
As full time caregiver to my husband with advanced Alzheimers, I love watching your videos of your dad. I'm sure he's referring to Danielle as to "the woman". In the video from early in the morning when Danielle saw him in the kitchen, you could see he was confused as to why there was a woman in "his house". He thought it was his house and she said she lives with him. That carried over into this video that you took Dan. He's referring to Danielle. Danielle needs a t-shirt that says "I AM DANS WIFE". It's a real gift that your dad can still read! Maybe a big pin that she can wear each day or a cap that says I AM DANS WIFE that she can put on anytime, day or night. His level of confusion is nothing compared to how he will be as the dementia advances. Hopefully since he has vascular dementia and his Blood Pressure is now under control, his dementia won't worsen too much. Either way, you're doing a great job! Hang in there!! 🤞🌷
Yeah he thinks Danielle being there in his house, is this sweet young girl who needs a man to take care of her. Dan has some stiff competition he has to deal with, if Ed were younger then I don’t know. Lol.
At 4:28 was a moment of full clarity for Grandpa Salinger. Dan: We'll go tomorrow! Grandpa Salinger: What is today? Dan: It's Saturday! Grandpa Salinger: Sunday, the bank won't be open. Though dementia is a very difficult disease, this channel is such a blessing in so many ways. Dan, you have absolutely no idea how many people you help each day, including myself. 🥹 May your blessings be everlasting. ✨️🙏🏾💛 The "young girl" in Grandpa's bedroom could possibly be his guardian angel. Just a thought that makes my heart smile. 😊
My husband and I watch this channel and when "Pop" initially said that about a woman in his room, I turned to my husband wide-eyed, and said that it may be something to that effect! 😊 Great minds ❤
Oh lord he’s thinking it’s Danielle. That’s what he’s thinking, I figured it might be Danielle. Lol. I hope Danielle is ok with him thinking that. He probably thinks this poor young girl follows me around asking me if I need anything and Dan isn’t taking care of her, so I will. 😂
Try not to read too much into it, Dad has spent a lot of time with Danielle lately whilst you’ve been away. He is just confused, always good to check that he doesn’t have a urinary tract infection too, this can cause more confusion ❤
Yes to the UTI!! My husband's grandmother just went off into another world mentally one day and it scared us. Turned out to be a UTI. It's crazy what the body does! Every once in a while she would be off again.... And it was another UTI.
You leave town and Ed is bringing girls in.😂 But you didn't tell him he was seeing things or he was confused. You treated it as tactfully as possible. Good on you, Dan.
Maybe he was thinking of a young lady he was dating before he met his wife.I used to work on a dementia unit, and one of my patients was always looking for his daughters, I was told his wife divorced him when they were young. You just never know sometimes. Keep sharing and keep up the good work, Dan.
Yes my work also. He may be remembering someone he had a relationship with. Or he may be hallucinating. Keep an eye out Dan for infection. Particularly UTI❤

oh yeah. same thing happened with my mother-in-law in her late 90's. i always wondered if she was seeing in her mind, her daughter, as a young girl who had passed away. she'd tell me to talk to her and of course nobody was there but she and i...
My Mum gave me a telling off for going into her house at 5am with her grandson. It made no difference that it was illogical and extremely unlikely that we did. She died a few weeks later.
The only thing you can do is, meet him where he's at. And you did that beautifully. He was redirected when you took him seriously. And....we never know who may have come for a visit.
Agreed !!! Good job !!! when my dad heard us denying what he said he would get very angry - he swore there was a basement & we were in a single story house 😂
@joebert3286 My dad is just starting his journey. So, right now, we are learning how to help him when he's confused. In a way, I am very blessed. They live in 2 different states, and I'm the only one residing in one of the states. This allows me special one on one time to learn his quirks and what is and isn't working for him right now. The Salinger's have taught me so much. I'm so sorry for the losses you have had. 💔
Pop is so sweet , u can really tell how much love he has for you! Always making sure your good, u can just imagine how serious his role as a father & provider he took.
3:03 kinda makes me wonder if he has glimmers of memories of Josh's mom. He's such a trooper and even though these moments may be trying, it shows just how strong he is. It shows how strong you and Danielle are and these situations display how beautiful the love you guys have for each other even though it's not always spoken.
It's common for those who have dementia and Parkinson's, as the disease's progresses, they will begin to see apparitions and interact with people that you cannot see. I remember one lady I used to take care of. I used to think that her house was like a great big train station with all the people coming and going. She would start talking to people who weren't there even children, leaning down and patting them on the head. We would ask her to describe the people and she would tell us what they look like what they were wearing and then she'd even tell us the stories that they had told her about their life. At night we'd hear her talking to them and when we asked her who she was talking to, she would describe what they look like, what they were wearing and what they were talking about.
I really like how you respond to your dad’s questions and queries in dignified way without making him realise or feel bad about his disease. Your love for your Dad bought tears in my eyes. God bless you Dan.
I am so touched with your videos of your Dad . My Dad is also 92 and I was not financially stable to not work and look after him like I would have liked. I looked after him 6 years and then had to place him in a local care facility when the degree of care was more than I could provide ( mostly bc I had to work outside the home). I am sad every day that he is in a care home ! Bless you and your wife for caring for your Dad Iike this. My Dad is also always asking if I am ok, if I am happy and how the grandchildren are. We both have amazing gentle loving caring Dads.
My mother in law was 93 with dementia. Her backyard was up against a large cemetery. One day she was smiling and laughing while sitting outside on her deck. When we asked her what was so funny, she said she was watching the “residents” in the cemetery. I swear I was starting to believe her! Everyday she was looking for a little girl. 😃
My grandma kept seeing a baby running down the hall. I think it was a memory from my son was young. Then she stated seeing her deceased husband checking the mail ...I finally thought maybe?? Shortly after she passed I really wondered if that was him coming to get her. they were married for over 50 years. Nowadays, I'd like to think that was the case!
My Mama was 93 she had severe conjestiive heart failure, Alzheimer's and a stroke. Her last few weeks she would see members if her family that had passed years ago.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
My friend was only 55 when she was diagnosed ,and had an aggressive form of Alzheimer. She use to tell her husband about the shadow people. Once he put her in the nursing home he found out how real the shadow people were. He first had what he thought was a dream,. He dreamed he wrestled one and it shoved him against the door so hard that the door stopper put a hole in the wall. It was so real he decided to check the wall for the hole, and sure enough there was a hole in the wall. Then one day while he was wide awake a shadow figured grabbed him around the waste trying to tackle him. Then it was gone. He felt horrible for not realizing she was actually seeing those things. Rest in Peace Elaine.
Dan, my dad has sundowners and this discourse sounds very familiar… its a back and forth bantering .. sometimes I think it’s fear or the fear of confusion … my dad gets upset when he cannot recall a familiar face ! He just wants normalcy as her recalls it back in the day… Ty guys for sharing this with the world, it either affirms or teaches ! Either way, pops is very bright is so so many ways ! Love is patient, love is kind ❤ ⭕️ ❤
You handled that so well. I cared for my Dad in the last years of his life. His mind was usually clear but as he had catheter in the last few years he would often develop bladder bad bladder infections which would cause him to “see things” that weren’t there. He would see people who weren’t there and bears in his bedroom etc. I soon learned to try to reassure him without denying what he was “seeing”. These are precious days that you are spending with your dad. Sometimes difficult but precious.
I remember when in hospital with my Nan who had dementia, we had some great adventures, I would tag along with her, in reality we were on a ward full of sick and old, but in her mind we would be on a cruise ship or a restaurant..... Sometimes it is easier on them to go with the flow 😊
I was saying the samething....when I worked with clients who had dementia they would often say" there's a little girl 😇in my room sitting in a chair"or something to that nature...that comes along with dementia I've seen it quite often...
@@cecesimone5654 my great grandma was like that. my grandmother told a story of how she was saying ''daddy's dead! he's just sitting lifeless in the chair!'' the dr said ''your husband died 15 years ago.'' she snapped and said ''you son of a b!'' then she came out of it
He was talking about Danielle I believe. That’s who I thought it was and then he said her name. I think sometimes he thinks Dans room is his room and he sees Danielle in there or Danielle was in his room helping him and he forgets she is his daughter-in-law. I don’t think he is that far where he sees visitors from the other side. This is all my observations from being a loyal viewer and fan of this fam. ❤
A friend of mine, whose mom suffered from dementia, couldn't have her at his wedding, bc his mom was convinced that he was his late dad/they were a couple and it would have been upsetting for her to see him marrying another woman.

I wonder As they entered dementia, does it allow them to see Things like children are allowed to see things that normally we wouldn't be able to see such as spirits
Perhaps entities, entities such as spirits know the state of mind and they allow themselves to be seen , and they communicate with elderly people like they do with children

@amanda I'm sorry for your loss. However, what a Debbie downer to say that at pop moment. Love you, pop!!
My mom is 86 with Alzheimer’s and I’ve cared for her for six years. She’s always thinking kids are upstairs and I should go check on them
oh yeah. same thing happened with my mother-in-law in her late 90's. i always wondered if she was seeing in her mind, her daughter, as a young girl who had passed away. she'd tell me to talk to her and of course nobody was there but she and i...
So so beautifully stated and so so true. It's how I relate to my brother who has dementia ❤
Pop needs money for date night obviously! LOL she’s staying in his room now>>>>!!! Lmfao dan you are a sweetheart❤😂😢
5-20 $ isn't enough cos of inflation. He must carry at least 50- 80$ , withdraw more on next visit to the bank.
Pop is so sweet , u can really tell how much love he has for you! Always making sure your good, u can just imagine how serious his role as a father & provider he took.
Dan you are so kind n understanding 🎉❤
3:03 kinda makes me wonder if he has glimmers of memories of Josh's mom. He's such a trooper and even though these moments may be trying, it shows just how strong he is. It shows how strong you and Danielle are and these situations display how beautiful the love you guys have for each other even though it's not always spoken.
Yes. He might be thinking about Josh's mom.
My dad did that all the time. You did the right thing
Bless you and your wife for caring for your Dad
Iike this.
My Dad is also always asking if I am ok, if I am happy and how the grandchildren are. We both have amazing gentle loving caring Dads.
Pops still has his wits about him. He remembered the banks are closed on Sunday!🎉
Im glad you went along with him. Not sure what he was thinking but it didnt seem too bad!
Wow it sure went to a weird place fast. You are doing a great job taking care of him. Dads getting his swerve on tho. Go Dad!!!!!
Thank you all for taking care of dad! You are wonderful children!
He’s such a sweetheart you can tell he’s trying his best to make sure everyone is happy and taken care of. ❤❤❤ and blessings to you each xo.
Yes. My uncle started seeing his deceased friends and family on a daily basis for 3months before he passed away.
My Mama was 93 she had severe conjestiive heart failure, Alzheimer's and a stroke. Her last few weeks she would see members if her family that had passed years ago.
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten.

Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun.
That young mystery blonde, she just won’t stay away from Ed 😂😂
Your right ‼️
Dan, my dad has sundowners and this discourse sounds very familiar… its a back and forth bantering .. sometimes I think it’s fear or the fear of confusion … my dad gets upset when he cannot recall a familiar face !
I love all the patience that you have with explaining everything to him over and over again.
Bless Grandpa Ed...he is a sweetheart!🙏❤❤❤
❤️💜
Long term memories are the last to leave. He is confusing the past with now. You handle it so well!
I remember when in hospital with my Nan who had dementia, we had some great adventures, I would tag along with her, in reality we were on a ward full of sick and old, but in her mind we would be on a cruise ship or a restaurant..... Sometimes it is easier on them to go with the flow 😊
cruise ship! ha that is awesome!
So bittersweet. This reminds me so much of Dad. ❤️ Gentle and sweet. I am glad your father has you - a caring son to watch out for him. 😢
I just love watching this show. It is so touching. Grandpa is so lucky to have a son he does.
I really love your guy's relationship, you're a great son.
Sometimes, towards the end-it’s said that loved ones from the other side come to visit us…maybe that’s who she is 👼
I was saying the samething....when I worked with clients who had dementia they would often say" there's a little girl 😇in my room sitting in a chair"or something to that nature...that comes along with dementia I've seen it quite often...
I agree 100% Dan. Visitors coming to greet him.
Oorrrrr, they could possibly just be remembering a past event.
You are awesome with your dad and so patient. He's a sweetie ❤
I just love him!!! He’s the best!💕💕💕
I love your Dad's shirt!! Lol! He soo lucky to have you and your family!
So hard, prayers to you. My dad asked me to marry him and I had to pretend to be his fiancé for months. Prayers for you and your family
A friend of mine, whose mom suffered from dementia, couldn't have her at his wedding, bc his mom was convinced that he was his late dad/they were a couple and it would have been upsetting for her to see him marrying another woman.
@fairgreen42 yes, my husband and I couldn't see my dad at the same time because my dad would get upset thinking I was cheating on him
I just adore him
He’s very considerate and compassionate even when confused he’s always thinking of u & Danyalle 🥹💙
What the father is seeing is one of his guardian angles waiting patiently.
As his disease progresses the number of guides will increase.
Totally agree with you.
Someone who understands
♥️beautiful♥️
Thought the same thing 😇
I like that thought.
He's so freakin adorable!!! No matter how old he is he still wanted to make sure his son was okay and that he didn't need anything ❤ He's a sweet man!
God bless you, Sir. N your wife, Mrs. Danielle!!!!
U R a great son always respectful even when he seems totally lost.A GIFT from God in his old age to have a son that loves him..
Aww Bless him, i wonder if hes talking about his granddaughter ? and got a little mixed up . xx good to see his face has healed .
I think he is confused about Danielle/ whose woman she is ? Bless his sweet heart 💞💝💞
My first thought was Hannah, too.
Dan your so good with your Dad. He may be forgetful but he is very logical. God Bless you both.❤❤😊😊
I love you guys, Dan, and you know more than anyone how to take care of Pop. You are doing a great job, and Pops is a good man. God Bless all of your family, Dan.
Youre both great. Love you both. Your dad reminds me so much of my late partner, especially when he's looking for money or his wallet! Thanks for all these lovely videos.
Poor, sweet Ed ~ a dream/a nightmare. So confusing for him and for you, Dan. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
As they get into dementia, they start to see people
True. This was a big issue with my mother. Sometimes she was afraid of them.
I wonder As they entered dementia, does it allow them to see Things like children are allowed to see things that normally we wouldn't be able to see such as spirits
Perhaps entities, entities such as spirits know the state of mind and they allow themselves to be seen , and they communicate with elderly people like they do with children
Exactly, nothing wrong with that. My mother used to see a 3 years old girl in her bedroom.
Lewy Body Dementia is a form of Alzheimer's where they will speak of seeing people that we do not see , very common .
Hahaha 😂. Dan, I couldn't finish watching because I just laughed so much..."what about her? She is in my room now 😆" and to that Dan didn't know what to say!😂. Pop is sooo sweet...lol. you need to drink more Dan to understand Pop...😂❤
He reminds me of my great grandfather. I love him.
I like love your dad!❤ Reminds me of my mom who passed away last year at the age of 98. She had dementia. I had a hard time with her but I miss her everyday.
You handled that perfectly ❤
You all are an inspiration for the way you take care of Dr. Salinger. What a Blessing to see. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
He is well taken care of. Hope I have a young girl when I'm his age, lol? Love the video!
This channel is helping me so much with my dad.
I love your dad he is adorable 🥰 wish the family strengh and patience ❤
