    Easily fixable with the right amount of time and money as everything is surface rusted and not structural. Definitely worth taking on if you have the time and money as being a genuine Ho with low kilometres it'll easily fetch more than the restoration cost even if you use all standard Gt parts as the ID plate is where the money lays in GTHO'S

    I thought it was going to be another which I have seen , which was stolen back in the 70's. It was hidden a dam,full of water and the person responsible carried the cowl tag around in his wallet. I saw it back in 1992 ,still in the dam but in pretty much the same state as this one. The White car next to it threw me a bit as there was also a white GT in the same town as the drowned one. Back in those days Cockies were still making good money and the GT's were a popular car amongst their young'uns. .

    With fire damaged cars it depends on how much heat the metal took. If it was to hot the metal becomes brittle and they can't be repaired. However looking at the video this thing looks savable and being a HO it definitely should be.

    People restore 100 odd year old veteran/vintage cars that are way worse condition having to remanufacture parts and panels . Parts are plentiful for XYs nowadays , being a GTHO it’s worth doing if you have the skills to save money or otherwise a big bank balance . 41 of 300 it’s worth a second chance in life I reckon even it most of it won’t be original parts

    this would be one of the rare ocasions where it might be worth restoring a burnt out wreck, but even then it would be almost a completely new car, as all the steel panels would've been warped, only savable panels would probably be the ones with the paint left on, motor and diff would be rebuildable with a lot of new parts maybe the wheels would be ok, they are usually pretty thick steel, but I think the one next to it would be 1st in line for a resto

    • @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide
      @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, time, money and skill and all three in bulk, it seems the rust is more of a problem than the fire damaged panels but it’s all fixable with those three components. The one next to it will no doubt be giving up a lot of its parts to save its neighbour.

    @Grooty79 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes it could be restored but I wouldn't, I repaired a hk Bathurst monaro in similar shape for a chap a long time ago and would never do another burnt car to this state again, the issue is all the damage was done when the roof was crushed while hot which in turn means the whole lot is bent and the metal is seriously compromised, now if it wasn't squashed and just a burnt she'll without the damage then it would be more worth it, just pull it into shape and clean out all the dirt and crap and seal it up the way it looks 😊

    • @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide
      @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The roof was actually bent with a front end loader after the fire, it was taken back out to the farm and loaded/unloaded with a front end loader and for some reason ended up squashed like that. So I’m that sense that part is nothing a replaced roof structure won’t fix. As you know a lot of work and patience but will be worth it in the end to see it driving again.

    • @Grooty79
      @Grooty79 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still a completely burnt shell and not suitable as a street registered resto, a resto as a show piece or as a museum item yes but this extent of heat put into the metal definitely changes it's strength and pliability, it makes it worse if the car was red hot and then sprayed with cold water from fire fighters, one part a lot of people don't realize is most totally burnt cars there floor pans buckle up as well

    I have a few thoughts on this. 1. why on earth did he leave it outside for 40 years. Should have been sold and restored decades ago. 2. It will cost circa $250k to restore. 3. Why do old men pay so much for a GTHO? 4. I loved them as a kid, but let's face it, compared to anything today they are Meh! I suppose for someone with stupid amounts of money sitting idle, it's a project to relieve their boredom.

Lastly yes it will filmed and a documented build.

    • @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide
      @ablokeinatroopyaustraliawide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no actual temper in the steel, everything in those cars is mild steel and fixable, cut all the outer skins off, unpick the areas of skeleton that need replacing then start adding new outer skins to suit. Very intensive and time consuming but very doable. I’ve seen quite a few old burnt cars become hotrods over the years.

    It can definetly be restored but does the current owner have the money or intention. If not it would be nice to sell it on to someone who can and will. Sadly there are cars like this where the owners simply won't let them go and the car just gets left to rot. It looks like it's being left out in the rain and elements and what damage the fire didn't do the rust and repeated heat/cold cycles will. It looks like there is a genuine GT next to it as well.
