That poor screwdriver was screaming “uncle” when you were using it to pry the parts out.

My 1550 was the same way as your 1650 with rusty brakes, So I drilled 2 holes in the casting at the lowest point in front of the bottom bolt and 2 hole behind the bolt so water can get out and the trick is put a carter key from the top down and bend the ends 90* about an 1/8" below the casting so they can giggle around to keep the holes open and the water and dust can escape . That there is a Bandit trick that works good ! Bandit

Good video, just lots of sadness for sure. Down under the floor pan, seems like it wouldn't get that much moisture in there. Apparently, it obviously did. There is never a shortage of things to do on a farm. Thanks for sharing and I'll see you later. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Run 'er without brakes on that one side for awhile. I know what you mean about the old tractors and no power steering. We mowed with an H Farmall and a sickle mower for years, if you were turning a lot it would wear you out eventually. I was in heaven when we switched to a 706 and haybine.

I have several modifications I do to dry disc brakes. One is a notch a t the bottom of the housing to drain any water or oil accumulation.

On somewhat of a whim I bought a set of "shorty ratcheting" wrenches. All the ratcheting is after cracking loose a bolt but before finger torque works, and often in tight spaces where long ratcheting wrenches wouldn't fit or have less throw. They have proven handy on several jobs already.

Always something that is frustrating when you run older equipment. But I would still prefer it over brand new.

Sorry you can't seem to catch a brake Ross. Hope the window you have for cutting hay doesn't get slammed shut on you like ours did.

    The first rule of equipment:
    The more you need it.
    The more it requires fixing.
But then, you should have noticed it needed fixing the last time you used it
But instead, you are fixing from behind the 8-ball and things are going to hell.
Make the neighbors know you have gone around the bend and need a canvas jacket with long sleeves that tie together in the back, pull your hay conditioner with the 4-180.

I always wondered what inhaling rust dust would do to me over time while working on old trucks and cars.

Yeah, that was in pretty rough shape! I like how you rooster called your bad words, funny to me, but I'm sure it wasn't funny to you. Good luck with your brake and haying. Have a good day.

I had the right side brake lock up on my SC case once in the cow yard with a full calf creep feeder behind. It's always good times with sticky brakes

Yes ,I fixed a case 580B cutting brakes bolts had gotten lose and they broke off two of the ears on the cutting brake housing, and so we took a long time to find the steel balls ,( They are a perfect 1. Inch ball ) we welded the east back on the housings and bought the brand new springs, and put it back together, and I used it for years , until mom sold it,, lol thanks BigAl California,,merry tractor .

Check granger or msc and look for gage balls. They are precision and stainless steel.

There must be a gap in the case contact faces or a grommet where water is getting in there.

Interesting video Ross. Seems wherever moisture can go it finds a way. It would be nice if you could find where it's getting it at. Well good luck with ole guy.

What a fiasco...always an event to enhance the color of your vocabulary when piecemeal disassembly of the components is involved. Hope you win this battle and get a weather window to get things moving with fieldwork!!!
