I was so excited to set up my studio, but then I realized that building furniture is laborious!! Hard work. And, I need way more shelves, so round 2 maybe this weekend? It's been about a year since I could do much colored pencil work because of my shoulder pain? It's on the mend and doesn't complain when I do some colored pencil stuff now. Yay!! So happy for you that you’re in your own place! Other transitions can be easier to manage when you have your own place to return to each day. I’m approaching the end of my big moves and transition period, well for now, until after renovations are done and we finally move in to our permanent home. It has been rough! But, this too shall pass. It would be nice to have things go smoothly for a change... Fingers crossed. I feel good that I was able to color some during all the other things that I had to do. That is what it is for first and foremost. Stress relief. Hi, your kind reply gave me a boost and I’ve been painting today and I really enjoyed it! I also watched some of your older videos and that helped a lot. It made me realise I need to water my paint down more and the technique of using a small, medium and large brush works great. I do have a question, how do you mix your paints? I mixed in the water with my largest brush, but the paint gets all the way to the base and it’s hard to get the brush clean again.

Yes, I use a bigger brush to mix the paint with. But the brush is proportional to the amount of paint I am mixing. Sometimes I am just mixing a tiny amount and use a small brush...
Yes, there will be some sacrificed paint that got sucked up by the brush. I use a round brush and as I mix I stop, twirl the brush against the mixing plate because the brush is holding on to unmixed paint. Mix again. Twirl again. Repeat a few times. When done I twirl the last bit out to use and throw the brush in the water.
If I were using a super expensive kind of paint and wanted to waste less, I could (and did all through college and beyond) mix with a palette knife. It is harder and more time consuming though. I feel i waste very little paint with my twirling method though.
