Oh my goody this is going to be fun. Tomorrow I remove my jack knife sofa very similar to this but with three seats and like this one they are connected with pleats too. I had already been thinking about dividing into three cushions so this gives that some credit in thinking. I am not sure the foam needs to be replaced. The back seems to be solid enough the seat at least one end seems to need new foam just sitting on it one sinks down too much. So you know someone preferred that spot for long time. I also need to be sure I work back in the three seat belts that are in this sofa. I wanted this mini RV Class B+ so I could carry up to 7 people total and that means 4-5 passengers in the coach area when family visit often grouped together with spouses etc. So we can tour or travel together in one vehicle. We are all 70 into mid 80's and having a bathroom and fridge etc. along for all of us is fantastic. Meantime tomorrow is the day that sofa comes out. Scary I know. I learned by watching several more of these videos on TH-cam that these usually bolt together in 2 pieces the back and the seat separate. I am so happy to discover that because so far I hadn't seen that was what would happen. I've had good luck with several Sailrite videos over the years. Including I made 4 large clear windows in a sold rain fly for my 6 person Kelty tent I love. And used their add a window to a small sail directions. I didn't buy the kit as my windows needed to be much bigger but they had listed all the materials that went in the kit and I could buy all. They recommended I don't do this for some odd reason. I think they did not realize what I actually intended but it worked out great. I've had it done since 2017. It's never leaked and I can now see out of my tent 350 degrees when camping. WAIT I just bought my first ever RV and maybe I won't be using that tent very often now. SNIFF roll back 10 years ago & I said I'd never flip to an RV. Will wild fire season has increased up here the past 7 or so years. To the point that three years in a row I have had to pack up my campsite and it takes up to 2 hours and sometimes 3 if I take a lot of time cleaning all gear like ash off of it before packing. So it took a few more years deciding what type of RV best fit my life. And now as of Feb this year I have a 22 year old Class B+. It came with neglect and need of fixes that I hadn't seen ahead when buying it. I did know though that I would be reupholstering the jack knife sofa as I did not like any of the original fabrics they were made in and most still have the original. Tomorrow the fun begins. Really I am in envy of that table. I also laugh I gave away an electric knife over 50 years ago very much just like this one and I still haven't bought another. I manage however as I've been upholstering furniture and sewing utilitarian style items for 50 plus years too. I have a sail rite machine their RED one bought over 23 years ago. I rarely use it but it is there when I need it or my other beloved 1962 machine or electronic machine fails to pull it's weight. Loved the way you made the patterns using the plastic like sheeting. Never thought about a low tack glue for similar use. I learned a lot.
great video. Is there anyone in the southeast that does this kind of work? would love to get mine redone by a pro. I'm sure I could do it, but it would take me a week to learn to cut foam, a week to learn to sew heavy fabric, etc etc and it would turn out half as good as a pro.
Thank❤- you So Much, from JENNIFER Colleyville Texas I’ve been a seamstress most of my life and I want to tackle my RV sofa! Should I do leather or is that fabric you have on there pretty durable? Recommend?
If you have a chance to use leather, I would use that instead. The fabric we used worked well, but I thought it stretched a little too much when an occupant sits on the sofa.
I have a two person lawn chair (2 seats and 2 backrest cushions) that has a hard bar between the two halves. Is there anything I can do to make the center comfortable? It digs in if you lay across it or sit on the middle.
Usually the only thing you can do for an issue like that is one of two things or both. Buy a firmer IFD foam and/or a thicker foam. In the end you will probably still feel the bar, but it will be less noticeable.
I declare, yall read my mind everything i start a project. Im about to recover a jackknife rv sofa!!! On time

Thank you very much. Great tool for learning!
Can you use that spray adhesive from 3M to attach foam to wood?
I needed to see this! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
What kind of fabric pins are those? I looked on your website and didn't see them. Sure would like to have some of those.

What's the average cost of a project like this?
