Last year was my first time joining the game, although I’d made my account in 2017. I got a little discouraged because I was only giving my best work but scarcely got even a comment on a piece, and I only got two defenses. One of them I speculated to be traced. After watching this video, I feel it might’ve been because I have it written on my profile that I don’t do revenge chains. I’ll try it out this year and last year’s experience was but a reason to try even harder!!!

You can find them in the ArtFight Discord or website news posts! Then you can edit them in whatever drawing software like procreate or ibisPaint, even Adobe photoshop!

I'm glad you said it was good etiquette to comment on defenses thanking people for the art. Not only is it just the kind thing to do but let me tell you from personal experience, making art that you are super proud of for someone and waiting for that comment even just acknowledging your work and it never happening is such a depressing experience. It leaves the person who made the art for you feeling like either you didn't see it, don't like the art, or just plain don't care enough about your work to even say anything. PLEASE comment on defenses telling them you appreciate the time and the work, it means the world to the person who took the time to make something for you.

For beginners: don’t burn yourself out by thinking you need to draw everything and anything. Give yourself a limit of art per day or a goal of how many pieces you believe you could get done realistically by months end with your given schedule. You will get burnout if you try to push yourself. Also you’re only most likely going to get 1 out of every 5 attacks revenged if you’re lucky as most people tend to stick to fandoms they know and unfortunately many people tend to only attack their friends, people in the artfight discord, or internet celebrity artists (the last one is literally just a way for said internet celeb artists to get fanart all the while they only ever attack their friends). Don’t be afraid to check out fandoms you’ve briefly been in or even just finding random characters to draw. There’s people who’ve only gotten one or two pieces or none at all, a piece of a character of theirs could really brighten their day.
Ive seen so many videos talking about the bad sides of Artfight and this was such a breath of fresh air. As a first year fighter this makes me feel way more confident that everything will be ok
This is a highly informative yet easy-to-digest video! Nicely done! Last year was my first time participating (let's go Werewolves) and I remember the nervous excitement all too well. My goal for this year is to avoid staying up late to finish attacks in high succession, since that was extremely unhealthy. Even if I only make five attacks sleep is more important.
Ive been contemplating if i wanted to join in this year since i have a bad history of doing many art exchanges and secret santas online for years back in highschool and never once receiving anything in return but you've laid out this information really clearly which makes it seem way more approachable for a firsttimer like me so thank you 😊

9:58 Does the theme of the teams for each year, impact the art itself at all? Since the characters are not made for the year, does the theming have to be incorporated somehow or the artist is free to do wathever and just chosses the one that strikes their fancy?
Hi! This will be my third year doing artfight. From what I’ve seen it can be both. I’ve seen people make art based off of the theme or make art that doesn’t incorporate the theme. Either way works, incorporating is definitely fun and something I’m gonna try to aim for but if not it’s still appreciated.
I usually like to theme my profile to my team- so stuff like profile picture, thumbnail borders, info templates, then I like to write a little about me in by bio, my goals for how many attacks I’m trying to get in, add some pretty symbols and emojis! Just to give it some pop!
I want to learn about art fight but i feel awful because i know i wont do it because art block has cruel timing and i dont really draw characters in context and i dont like feeling like i have deadlines because its stressful and the starting date is past so i dont know if i can even join, but i feel awful because i see all my friends doing it and talking about it and looking like they are having fun and i feel like im missing out Update: i beat the life out of my artblock, so ha, i can do it
