I always assume he played the word dog and god on purpose as dog backwards is god and humans perceive mirrored images as flipped further playing on the words. Even if he didn't do it on purpose, the abstraction of it is fantastic.

I swear, Aes is the only artist who can make me laugh, tell a story, and make me analyze the lyrics like a philosopher in one song, this is a great example of it. He's truly a lyrical warlock.

    • @theinternet1424
      @theinternet1424 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

I have been driven by my blind desires to analyze these lyrics like a very particular philosopher:
I'll be very short. I mean sometink very precise ven I say det: Young American rappr Aezop Rock is *Truly* keepink it *Real*. Dat is: True and Real vit capital T and R - as in True and Real of Hegel-Lacan. I voud espeshly ricommend his leitest trek, incospicuously cold "Hot Dog". It's amazing! Sometink amazing happns. In a sonk dat at first may sound just like simple self-directed cynicism, a naggink litany of self-effacement and so on, he in fact takes on a series of dialectical turns in de framing of his own supposed identity, showing indolent refusal to allou any miscognized igo-surplus to stick to vot he's speaking. It is as if he's anticipating vot you, him, anyone, de Big Other and so on expect him to be, and he immediately announces a series of impossibilities and cracks in de unspokn expectations, alonk vit his subjective disintrest in the outcome, agressivly positioning himself outside of subjectifyink forces, vit minimum influence on de pyoor negativity of his subjective states. Effectively, attempts of subjectification are left lying dead in a ditch, as the effects of the Hegelian Night of de Vorld are left visible on the disjoint narrative, as vel as on our image of de poet, vich refuses to remain in de simple register of Imaginary-Symbolic, givink our associations of him a dynamic dimension which stands for the Real, the crack within symbolizayshn. I claim dat Aesop Rock produces perhaps dee most sublime poetry of subjectivity in quote unqoute "all" its sublime, irreducible, dirty purity. Quotes are of cors here to denote dat de subject is always, by definition, precisely not-All, a barred void and so on and so on.

It's actually Slovene, so kudos, close enough. And I am high, but that's beside the point. Actually lot of people think that it is in fact this particular philosopher that's high all the time. But he's not, he's just an obsessional neurotic. His initials are SŽ and he eats ideology out of trashcans to redeem our sins.

@@hajile404 I think it's a bar of 6/8 plus 2 eighth notes (I'm a drummer). Count 1-2-3-4-5-6 and then an additional 1-2. It sounds weird because it is a triple meter that then becomes duple when the final two beats are added. But that doesn't make it 4/4.

      @squirtchimsley8682 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Which gives the feel like he is rapping in 7/8 and hen 8/8 and going back and forward. Poly means more than one and rhythm in this case means the time signature. So it means there is more then one time signature going at the same time.

MC Kerosine I totally agree. Aesop has always had a keen vocabulary but his delivery used to be very goofy. Around the time None Shall Pass came out he had begun to develop a really sick cadence & rhythm that seemed to really work for him. Back in the day I used to always say that was all he needed, and now he is one of the greatest ever imo ✌

Same, I'm a masters student in English Literature and Aes is still up in the top tier of writers for me even when considering all of English Literature. His grasp of the language is insane and as I wish to become a lecturer I will add Aesop to my module. If he doesn't see recognition in my lifetime in the realm of academic English Literature then the medium is backwards, this (and most of his discography) is as clever as almost all classical writers.

    HOT DOGS LYRICS
    [Intro]
We're so excited, we don't know what to do
Because we're about to reenter the level above humans
I couldn't have had a better life than I've had in since 21 years
And if it was good here, I know it is going to be good-twice as good when I get up there
This isn't a troubling circumstance, don't take it as that-it is just a gateway, just a drawing
W-What we're doing is we're going home. We're going home to those individuals who sent us here to do this task, and this is the happiest and joyous thing that you can-
    [Aesop Rock]
    Alright
Raised on dirty hot dog water and popcorn butter
EPMD tellin' me every popstar a sucker
Don't let him smell the potstickers, he'll stick around for supper
He'll stick around for cheesecake, then three days, then the summer
Where spiders eat their mothers, where rodents eat their young
I'm not here to make sense where there is none, that's dumb
My attitude is ghastly, any gallantry been going gone
I think I'm probably a lot like dating Mola Ram, I should work on that
The geezer not a leader, I'm a loner
Lover, believer, upholder of the under
Just not a people person, please forgive me if I'm flustered
I'll save a thousand whales before your grits are even buttered
My name is Aesop Rock, I've been a mess for my entire life
All I know is fight or flight, what the fuck's a silent night?
Who the fuck are you to tell me who the fuck you even are
This is more than band-aids over itsy-bitsy bleeding hearts
This is GNR announcing Jesus Christ on lead guitar
Finding Heather Hunter still inside your college VCR
Mirror mirror on the wall, I feel like a fucking dog
Something this depraved is not a product of a loving God
Periwinkle Pegasus through rat-infested LEGO bricks
Hug his mother briefly, then we're off to see the exorcist
I will not be checking messages
    Why, should I be?
Special is as special does, you aren't special just because
Yes your mother said you was, that's pretty much what mothers does
Someday I might find a pluck to roam the Earth with zero strings
Cut the tether float this feather over eastern seaboard winds forever
Like seaboard kings invested in the the froth and fog
They'll talk of his adventuring and call him things like "salty dog"
He freed like a bajillion prisoners from some secret haunted bog
Always had a L to puff, never yelled "Get off my lawn!"
Full disclosure I don't even have a lawn
If I did I'd probably grow the grass until the house was gone
Kick into the town forget the address or the house at all
This is how performance art exacerbates an albatross
I should maybe shake some hands
I should turn the music down
Have some people over without asking them to move a couch
But, since you're here I've got this awful futon I could do without
    Should take like two seconds...
