Companies don't throw away electronics they send them back to the manufacturer and get credited for them I've been a manager for Wal-Mart target and cvs the don't throw away electronics especially if the product takes batteries then it has to be put in a hazardous materials bag with it normal packaging

I work at Best Buy and they actually do throw away a lot of stuff mostly headphone returns because they’re not sanitary. But I don’t think they throw them in the main dumpster
I also work at Best Buy, and when someone returns an open box item, we buy it in a crate called PRC. And it gets put on a semi truck, nothing gets thrown away
