These trucks aren’t really meant for the kinda rock crawling shown in the first example. These trucks are ideal for scale trail driving. Part of the fun of building these little trucks for me is preparing spots in nature that I can return to and drive around/record clips.

I totally agree with you, just did it to see what they'll do, I'm also more into the scale side of the hobby.

the true issue with these truck both the mn 87 and 78, i have the 78, is the gear ratio. even with a 43T 370 motor and good esc the low end torque is really bad so what i ended up doing is getting those aftermarket WPL single speed gearboxes which much lower gearing and the thing performs 10X better, plenty of torquer with no throttle input

I did this exactly when building my 4x4 D12 and I was very pleased with the results. Decent top end speed for trailing and good torque for incline driving.

      That would work great!

I wonder if modding the stock electronic will yeild better performance, the battery leads wire gauge is sooo very thin, the motor and switch are slighty bigger gauge but that switch is so dinky, those small slide switchare only rated for like 0.2-0.5A DC, I would bypass the switch and wire it another battery connector/leads with at least 20awg, the stock rx/esc motor controller is the SA8336D which is capable of 7A continuous and 14A peak current but with that much voltage loss/resistance in the wire, forget about that lol edit: I just checked and the switch is wire with 24AWG, I measure the resitance of the power leads and its also probably 24AWG, just looks thinner because of the thin sheath, but then the connector is also a limiting factor, JST PH 2.0mm are only rated for 2A max

In this video the yellow truck has a WPL 30amp esc running 3s, it has plenty of power and wheel speed, I even changed to thicker motor wires, huge difference over the red one.

@srce2070 what about the low speed control of the 30amp esc? Does it give more torque? For slow crawl. Still with stock motor.

@@SRCE2070 on stock remote and receiver?

I would run it on 2nd speed which has drag brake, capped at 50% PWM

Yes I agree but not a great drag brake, the WPL 30amp 3s esc will actually hold the truck on a hill.

@@SRCE2070 yeah i did brushless conversion and the truck holds by itself without power hahaha

@@daijoubu4529 That makes sense, I was comparing two brushed trucks, yellow has 30amp 3s WPL esc and the red one is completely stock.
