Have you ever noticed that everytime someone complains that you're being selfish, they always do it from a selfish standpoint themselves? Ironic, isn't it?

    • @paulnoecker1202

Johnny Undaunted it's not always that way, but from narcissistic abusers it's always that way. There's a point where you're going to be a burden to society instead of an asset.

I used to be a super people pleasing codependent and was miserable and I couldn’t figure out why for the longest. I felt like ppl just used me and didn’t actually care about me and took my kindness as a weakness. It’s true i hated myself. I got rid of everyone and started solely focusing on myself and I’ve never been happier. I never thought being “selfish” was the answer but it is!

What. If you love your wife, and you buy her present to make her happy, thats not self sacritice. Love is most profound selfish feeling, that you have for someone because of what they make you feel, happiness.
Selfishness properly understood is not about cheating, manipulate to gain something you don't deserve. Its doing something to eventually get something better for yourself, in the total context of your life.

Being selfish and egotistical instead of pleasing other people is actually being a good person. When you are codependent and try to please others (often compromising your values and integrity), it is highly probable that your commitment won't be properly recognized and valued, which leads to anger and resentment - which leads to being angry towards others, so you either lash out eventually or when you can't, you become depressed.
People-pleasing is dangerous for everyone. If you really care for other people, put yourself first and don't spread yourself thin pleasing others - that way you are actually depriving others of the value you can create for them by paradoxically being egotistical and investing in yourself.

IF WE SEEK HIM WE WILL NEVER BE ALONE...EVEN WHEN ALONE...HE PROMISES TO BE WITH US ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIFE ON THIS EARTH AND BEYOND...AND IT IS TRUE.

The most selfless thing you can do is giving and sacrificing for your children. It's not easy, especially when they're ungrateful moody teenagers, and it's not always rewarding. It's just putting them above yourself. It's like the book The Giving Tree. I'm here to be poured out for them.

I watched the video and thought about it for some time and what you say makes sense. If you simplify what you say and turn what you conceptualize into bullet points. "You have to be selfish to give authentically", "you have to be selfish in order not to feel jealous". The best word which describes this concept which is contradictive in nature is a paradox.
By definition a paradox is: "a seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true."
Not trying to take away from your point, but add clarity if possible.

Because growing up my father was flat out selfish all he did was work, come home eat watch tv and never attended to his kids,or gave attention. He was way too into his world to focus on the outside. Don't tune out how the world is responding to your actions or how YOUR world is responding to your actions.

How can you approve selfishness if your so thoughtful as to give. Its not like every time someone demands to be acknowledged or want something after doing something selfless for someone. More like that person deserves the respect to have something be given back out of being a good person in general. If the latter does Nothing about giving back or even to not accept/approve, then they Would come across as generic unremorseful users, ungrateful and selfish in the most wrongful ways. You Should only be Selfish as far as towards self realization and balancing yourself personally through your own experiences. No one is in charge of doing things in your life aside from you accepting it...

Furthermore, yes I see your point about the need to love oneself and strive to be genuine, but that seems like a different thing from thinking you are the center of the universe on principle. Aren't you tempting people to think that the world revolves around them? Isn't this overstated? I'm not sure really, I'm just asking.
