- Throughout the history of gaming, we have seen characters move around at just about every different type of speed you could possibly think of, ranging from super-slow heavy hitters to lightning-fast ninjas; truly, when it comes to how quickly you move your legs, no other medium comes close to the diversity found in video games.
However, as much the creators try, true equality is something that can never be fully achieved, and in many cases, the slower characters tend to be not so good in their respective games.
But never underestimate the slow-coaches. Without putting so much focus into running their legs against the ground at a rapid rate, their strengths may instead lie in other areas. Perhaps they punch with the might of an elephant, maybe they can tank hits like a.. well, a tank. Or maybe they're none of the above and at utterly useless at everything, who knows?

A few corrections. Spoilers for the video.
- When I said that swords were the weakest weapons in FE4, that was bad wording on my part. What I should have said was that it's the least damaging weapon type. Also, I should have mentioned that using Arden can net you an additional Pursuit Ring, which is a motivation for using him, but having to drag him around for that reason is frustrating.
- I always forget Pyukumuku exists, who also has only 5 speed. Not that I can record 3DS footage anyway, and I find Shuckle much more interesting.
I really wish annotations were still available, curse you, TH-cam.

I was actually just going to comment about Pyukumuku, but Shuckle is pretty much the more interesting one of the three, especially given Shuckle's Contrary ability.

Amy actually becomes bareable once you realise that she accelerates faster in the air. Forget all about running to reach topspeed ; just jump once while moving and you should be good to go by the time you land : allowing you to spam the heck out of that Hammer Flip move. :D

Not just the duration, the fact that it flashes all white with a brightly-colored background is also severely distracting and eye-piercing.
To be fair, it probably wasn't too bad on the actual hardware. Wasn't the Game Gear super dim?
VonFirflirch I played the game within a Sonic Collection on the PS2. I don’t recall such intense effects but I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be far off from what was shown in the video. It was rereleased enough on more powerful hardware to be a concern.
The Game Gear is actually backlit. Instead, the odds of seizures are reduced by the small screen.
I should also mention that everything pertaining to those item boxes would produce the same effect, and that the effect was toned down in some of the later releases (which was pointed out by Johnny).

What's funny is that after SA1 and until Sonic 06, Amy is able to keep up with both Sonic and Shadow at top speed
sonic artist/animator oh really? SA2 battle: amy matches speeds with the other 3 racers, including sonic, shadow, and metal sonic.
Sonic Heroes: Amy is just as fast as the other speed formation characters.
Sonic Advanced trilogy: Amy keeps pace with the others just fine

My theory is that Jekyl just doesn't want to get his nice suit dirty since he's getting married and can't afford to wait a few days to get it dry cleaned. Unfortunately, all the peasants are dirty and never bath and the mud puppies love to say hi when he walks by - and obviously he can't show up covered in cat hair. The opera lady is also really bad about spitting when she sings so he has to be careful around her. This also explains why he walks so slow; it is obviously a hot and sunny day, so his suit is extra toasty and if he moves too fast he'll start to sweat and then his fiance will marry Kevin the douchebag instead.
My theory is that Jekyl just doesn't want to get married.

Also if that is the shortest map in genealogy I'm probably never beating it, I'm still on the first map and can't rush fast enough to the towns without relying on RNG making guys miss me all the time.

The game fortunately has only 10 maps, each has different objectives too
If you have enough patience, you can play the stall game with Shuckle, with the contrary ability, give it the moves shell smash, toxic, infestation (which on top of gradual damage also won't let the enemy escape), and rest. Also give it the item leftovers. I have swept many a team with this combination, including full legendary teams.

An obscure choice that could have been interesting to feature was the title character of either Toki game (arcade, or Going Ape Spit on the Genesis). He needs super high jumps to do any platforming at all, that's how slow he is.

Mario G Hernandez the fact the the word “abuse” in the sentence “Abuse Tails’ flying” is capitalized just makes it all the better.
Oddly, Amy moves faster going up stairs in Adventure than she does on a *flat surface,* which you'll find jarring.
Also, she tends to move slower on a regular slope, which only cements the oddity.
Reminds me of Armored Core 3. A friend had the game and he had already mastered the ridiculously obtuse control scheme, so he made this super fast mech with a precision laser. I couldn't even comprehend the controls, so I made a gargantuan hulking metal behemoth that could barely walk and gave it two machine guns. Then we fought eachother.
I usually won. It was pretty funny.
I remember the original armored core. If you made a heavy mech like that, you wouldn't be able to jump at all and would be unable to beat some of the missions that required it. Not sure about the later titles.

yeah if you get a time freeze with the mage guy you can do a LOT of damage. also, hammer flip can do some amazing damage, even when the boss isn't frozen.

To be fair, if Arden did have Pursuit, he technically would double axe fighters, since their 18 weight axes cripples their speed to 0, while Arden's 3 weight sword would bring him down to 1 speed, which is barely enough for him to double (doubling in Genaology only requires your total speed > opponents total speed, plus having Pursuit).
You could give him the Pursuit Band, but... why?
Alternately, you can have shuckle use Power Split on a pokemon with high attacking stats. Less of a boost, since you and your opponent gets equal attack stats in the middle, but the trade-off is that you won't lose any defense stats at all, so Shuckle, especially with the fact that your opponent is now weaker, can tank the hits and dish out decent damage, doesn't need to rely on Trick Room anymore.

That was more down to poor planning and not predicting that the game would see releases on hardware connected to *vastly* larger screens (after all, it was specifically developed for a handheld).
Luckily, they turn that constant flashing in the 3DS Virtual Console.

If you were to make more slow characters videos, I suggest looking at Mewtwo in super smash bros melee. His speed is one of his main problems, alongside his light weight.

Heroes incarnations aren’t that different to some units.
I.E Dorcas: Stout Tomahawk has built in Distant Counter: reference to the fact he has a hand axe when you start
Fierce Stance: he’s a fighter..
Quick Riposte: He has an okay SPD growth and can double even with high CON.
Infantry Pulse: HP growth.

Understandable, it's more important to dish out tons of damage quickly in that game than moving fast. He can slide everywhere to progress faster as well.
Not to mention, he's a bit trickier to use, but once you master him, there's no stopping his graceful onslaught

They did get rid of the run button in Odyssey, now Mario spin dashes faster than Sonic whenever he presses X or Y.

I tried using arden (boss hit exploit) and he doesn't deserve nothing, and in just four situations he helped, blocking the bridge in the first chapter, blocking the jamka's army, in eldigan's chapter and containing pamela's squad in the upper left castle. But against Sigurd and Lewyn you will be wasting your time
And also, I gave him the brave sword, he will be decent in the arena (while others like Alec, Claude or Dew won't, due to his common lack of attack and defensive stats), but even so, 5 movement is the worst stat of this game, because even in chapter one if you don't save the village quick,bye speed ring for Sigurd and even so Claude in map gameplay is way more usefull because of valkirie staff and psychic (the last one I don't remenber well, but if I'm correct it's a ten ranged staff so...).
All that speed and max still got no turkey!!

You think that's slow? Try using an OHKO move on a level 100 Blissey with Max IVs in HP, it's PAINFUL to watch.

He drags behind you, only barely able to keep up with you. If not for his size (and the fact that you're most likely wearing power armor at that point,) he'd end up getting left behind.

Blinx the Time Sweeper's protagonist is pretty slow too, unless you use the Fast Forward power. It adds an unnecessary bit of extra challenge to the game because there's a hidden time limit in the 1st game.

It was clear Shuckle and Munchlax would be in this video. But already, Gen VII featured another 5 base speed Pokemon: Pyukumuku, which is basically a Water type Shuckle but without offensive moves and worse defenses.
The only thing the speed shows seem to do for Big is make him accelerate faster and move slightly faster.
Same thing with Amy. It only “fixes” her acceleration (becoming able to do hammer jumps still takes a while)

And then Arden was added to Heroes, where his speed isn't as much of an issue because he's got the Follow-Up Ring. (Of course, mages will destroy him due to his RES also being low.)

If you plan on doing another fastest character video again, I cannot recommend enough that you look into penguin/Antarctic adventure. Weird Video Games did videos on them. To put into perspective, the penguin you play as, Penta, out-speeds rocket engines.
