A Better Hybrid Than Corolla Cross? (Nissan Qashqai E-Power 2024 Review)

  • Detailed review and test of the Nissan Qashqai E-Power (Rogue Sport), including fuel economy, ride quality, pricing and more.
    Nissan’s E-Power hybrid system has finally been launched in the brand’s Qashqai small SUV.
    Unlike many other hybrid systems, the E-Power uses a 116kW turbo 1.3L to recharge the Nissan’s battery, leaving a sole 140kW electric motor to drive the Qashqai via the front wheels.
    Benefits? We check out if there are noticeable improvements in real-world fuel efficiency and on-road comfort and refinement for the E-Power system fitted to the sole flagship Ti grade.
    Price? The Qashqai Ti E-Power clocks in at $51,590 before on-roads, so the nifty petrol-electric tech does command a handsome premium over its small SUV stablemates.

    In our mixed driving, the Qashqai E-Power used 5.5L/100km vs 8.5L/100km for the petrol. At $2/litre, that means the hybrid will break even around the 4.5year/67,500km mark.

    • @nightowldickson
      @nightowldickson 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the break even point but by 4.5 years it's almost out of warranty, and the big question mark is how reliable the e-Power system / battery will be in the long run and the cost of battery replacement.

      I agree! I live out in rural Victoria and the road surfaces are atrocious. Every time you spec a car if you want the upgraded stereo, pano roof etc you get lumped with the bigger wheels and low profile tyres which drives me crazy. Would much rather have 17’s or 18’s on 55 or 60 profile tyres than bigger wheels and 35 or 40 profile tyres. I know it looks average but it sure rides better. We need raised suspension not sports suspension also.

    The engine working as a generator is apparently 50% efficient! That is only possible because it is running at the optimum RPM. I think this will be used in a lot more cars and boats.

    Actually I was thinking about buying a Nissan Sentra e-power (available with a 1.2 lit NA 3-cylinder and single-speed transmission) over a Corolla as it's cheaper, more efficient and as u said quieter. But I'm on the fence about the reliability. Any recommendations?

    Why australian customers are not allowed to choose another trim? In EU we have a few trims to choose from, among them the cheeper versions (N-cnnecta) with 18'' wheels and spare one in the boot as a standard, that is optimal IMO.

    Isn't it a gas hog at highway speed, combining the inefficiency of a generator, a motor, and the charge/discharge inefficiency of the battery? While E-Power should do well at low speed and stop-and-go driving, I would expect it to be much thirstier than a similar size Toyota hybrid at higher speed, where the engine would be running most of the time.

    • @Ted_adventurer

      It runs at ideal rpm all day hence the stated efficiency (L/100km). This type of efficiency does not diminish at highway speeds.
