Beautiful! My late friend who lived in NYC and loved carousels took me to this amusement park to experience this ride many years ago. The horses did not move back and forth at the time but I still remember it being a thrill. Even though he’s no longer here to ride with me, I look forward to one day experiencing the Derby Racer at full operation and fondly remembering the time he and I shared together. Thanks for uploading this video!
You spent an entire day riding it and photographing it, but you don't know if the horses move back and forth?! Jeez!!! All of you guys are driving me crazy! I just want to know if the damn thing races or not. But I can't find out.
@@seeare4959 The last time I rode it, they raced against each other, back and forth. Then I saw a post saying the mechanism was worn out and too expensive to repair. It still races in a circle.
I hear conflicting reports. Some say the ride doesn't race anymore. Some say it was restored and now races again. Others say it's not racing, and the only one that does so in the whole world is at Cedar Point. I don't get it. What is the truth?!

I rode this years ago. It was by far one of the most fun rides I've ever been on!
This ride is fantastic!!!!!!!
I spent a whole day riding on it and photographing it (color film days...). I don't think the horses still race each other in their rows, though.

It's the same as cedar downs at cedar point
Awesome video. thank you for sharing it. I'm glad that they restored it back to what it was instead of just a giant carousel.

@seeare4959 the company that is running the park is not running the horses back and forth. Said it was a safety issue.
My favorite ride at Rye back in the day
