This size is almost perfect, a beam of 22 ft is what I require though as I will be doing the Great Loop and a couple of the historic Canadian Canals have locks with a maximum width of 7m (23 ft). Plus I would want to lighten up the appointments to gain speed and carry more fuel for oceanic crossings where there might be a day or more of motoring as there is no wind.
I will ask around. I am 1.87m (6´1"), so from memory around 2m. It is not a boat I hit my head on, unlike others that I will not mention which required a full face helmet
looks like an awesome option. we are a couple looking to go abroad. looks like she handles the waves well ...has to be credit to those great looking hulls? but wonder what size the aft bunks are do you remember? we seem an odd option that we like a larger bed! :D would ideally love a 160cm wide option ...which i know is in the 46. but everything else i prefer in the 40 .....including the price! Thoughts?
@@_PatSails I am pretty sure the aft bunks are 160, pretty roomy. I will double check. There is less width in the forward cabins. If you like a big bed, the Excess 11 is also worth a look as this has a 200cm berth. Good luck with your search, sounds exciting! Let me know if you need any more help.
@katamaranscom ah 1.5 and 1.6 in the 44. plus few little changes I see from your video. see if I can save a bit more before pulling the trigger. maybe someone does a year cruising to run one in that I can grab 😎 love your work thank you
Thanks for the overview. I also watched your video when you rented the Excess 11. What made you decide to choose the N40 over the Excess? Am looking at both. I'll need something to single hand at times, so the reefing at the mast has me wondering about this boat.
Hi Chris. Tough choice, I took delivery at the end of 2019 so the Excess 11 wasn't available. The Excess has more room down below but the Nautitech has better living space up top (you can stretch out full length on the benches for example). The Nautitech has the edge on performance I would say. Resale- about the same? Then you have the reefing. I grew to like that position in the end (very simple). There's a winch by the mast and it is close on a 40 footer, but you do need to go forward. I hope that helps.

Excellent video, I however can’t seem to find any information on the web regarding headroom. So, max standing height in the saloon and/or cabins.

I went through the process between the open 40 and excess 12 ended up buying the open 40 I main reason was the build of the hulls
Too exposed to the elements @ the helm and having to go to the maste killed the comfort and the joy for me.
I pass on this one.
So much fun to sail though!
