Dated a girl I knew from primary school for a few weeks, actually started to love her, sabotaged the relationship by cutting it off, cuz I am not enough for her. One of my friends started dating her later on and I am okay with it, as he's much better than I am and she deserves the best, which isn't me. Bit of a short personal lore dump if you will, but this just reminded me of this. Sorry

It's how calmly and softly empathetic Yasha is to Caleb's plight that hits so hard, she's not asking because she wants an answer she's asking to let Caleb know she's there for him.....
Yasha and Caleb's interactions were so dear to me. I wish we had more of them.
I really like your design of Caleb. In most cases, they make him look heroic or a hobo. However, in this one, he genuinely looks sickly and gaunt. His thin, triangular face makes him look almost villainous, which really plays well with his backstory and the themes that surround him. Should the Mighty Nein get an animated rendition like Vox Machina, I really hope they follow something along your version of Caleb.
thank you! im still trying to perfect my iteration of him. Im certainly not looking for ugly, but he is a weary man, and a wizard at that so i like to make him gangly and angular with sharp features. His hair is perfect and fluffy though :D

Here’s the thing, Jester and fjord are crushing hard on each other, but jester and Caleb are creating love in small bits, and eventually might come to a head. Caleb obviously sees the fjord thing and is respecting that, but I think he won’t hesitate to sacrifice himself for her
It's hard to tell how much of that is Jester and Fjord, and how much is Laura and Travis.
@@trise2033 Laura came out the gate saying "I'm going to romance your character" (to Travis) while Travis wants nothing to do with romance in roleplaying. I think he's stepping a bit out of his comfort zone with the subtle flirting back to Jester and how he dealt with Avantika, but ultimately I don't see Fjord getting a full-on relationship with Jester. I think it's a lot more likely Something between her and Caleb will form, just in how much more personal and less flirty their connection is, but honestly this game could be entirely devoid of inter-PC romance, and it'd be perfectly fine as is.
It would be the ultimate Reverse Uno Card if Fjord ended up with Yasha or Beau lol. I don't see any of those ships very sea worthy, though.

I think after that sentence, everybody wants someone like Jester in their lives.
On paper, Jester sounds like a character who would annoy me, but actually seeing her, you can see how anyone would fall in love with her. She's got my heart too.
Ikr the "perfect mary sue-esque naïve and kind and loved character" sounds annoying but the way jester was played.. The heart.. The.. Not focusing on the perfectness but on how she only wants those close to her to be happy.. The softness of it all... My heart

@@yuki97kira I get why people would assume that Jester has Sue qualities, but I would say she is kind of just Keyleth meets Scanlan. Scanlan had that same role of The Heart, but Keyleth was also kind of the sweet and naive one. Jester splits the difference between the two, and that's kind of how I look at her. Her naivete is a pretty critical flaw, but she is such a wonderful little bundle of flowers and happy that she is the balance that Nein needs. Moreso even than Vox, that is a gang of broken people.
Shows how talented Laura is because Jester is SUCH an easy character to mess up
I like how realistically this relationship played out. Sometimes love is just unrequited. But that doesnt make their friendship any less important or impactful. Quite bittersweet. Lovely video :)

Liam's Telephone Narrative described Caleb as a metaphor, being the child who had lost his heart. Thinking about that while knowing he has feelings for Jester is very heart-wrenching.
Here is why I ship Jester and Caleb - They can understand all the parts of each other without judgement. It is always Caleb who realizes that Jester isn't okay, and asks her about it, and lets her talk about it without interuption, without advice. It is always Caleb who makes sure she is doing okay in battles, or after intense conversations with the Traveller. And Jester knows about Caleb's past and said that, that she still thinks he's a good person. She sees him for who he could be, and who he is deep inside and is helping to bring those parts of him to the surface. And they both do all of this gently and gracefully. Beau is too much of "I would kill for you.", it's too intense. Fjord is comfortable, but not as aware of the pain Jester is going through currently.
Fjord’s been getting more aware in this more recent arc with Guacamole-though mainly with its obvious tie in to the Traveler
You hit the most important part, he listens. He doesn't try to help or defend her against the Traveler because he understands that she needs to figure this out herself but he still gives her just enough support.

He is just THERE for her, unconditionally.When I did pre-marital counselling, one of the things they stress is that a lot of people have problems that can be fixed, and problems that have to be worked through. So me and my fiance ask each other "Do you want me to fix this or listen?" Because sometimes you just need someone there to listen to you talk through the issue.
He's also the only one who doesn't think she is broken or being taken advantage of for her faith.
But it's too late. :(
This. All this is why I still have this linger on the Caleb Jester dynamic. Even though Laura and Travis are clearly putting the direct character efforts in now, Caleb feels the most right

I pray for the polyam Fjord/Jester/Caleb ship. I was caught between the various combinations and realized a polycule would solve the mental dilemma
Jester and Caleb are the couple that make the most sense. He is the one who has seen through her bubbly façade and has been able to have her back in her vulnerability and wild decisions. He is so much like the Ruby of the Sea in his book reading and anxiety that she becomes so aware of how to keep him level. I love the way this beautiful video showed all of that. Love it.
So I haven't really been keeping up with critical role but uh... When did Jester become a harem protagonist?

A more serious reply would be it depends on the arc, the cast does a brilliant job of taking the backseat for each other when their characters are going through their narratives, but I also think people like to gravitate towards Jesters more bubbly personality, kinda making her the go to hero/face of the nein. But thats my guess.
*Campaign 2, Episode 1*
In the beginning I was a Fjord/Jester supporter, but slowly, as I saw the interactions between these two and how genuine they are with each other I've become a Caleb/Jester supporter. I see the appeal to the other pairings but I think I'm set on Caleb/Jester. Caleb is so caring, and he tries to support Jester and help her feel better when he notices she's down (and often notices when no one else does, or talks to her when everyone assumes she's fine). I know Caleb sees himself as damaged, and is a seething pile of self hatred, but he's working on himself and has made progress over the episodes
The latest episode broke my heart when Caleb took a glance at Jester cuddled up with Fjord...
It was so sad to see Caleb's reaction to realizing Jester and Fjord are a thing now.
Caleb's thought process: "I refuse to inflict myself upon someone so full of happiness and joy and light."
Relatable. Very relatable.
Yeah.... I swear, as much as Laura is actively trying to romance Fjord through Jester, this just... This ship seems so much more natural... And I could swear that the moment Caleb fell for Jester was when they were dancing. Everything since has just been stoking the fire.
It does make a lot of sense, and I'd love to see it play out on the screen. Unfortunately I think we're too far down the Fjorster route to back out without looking strange. I don't think Laura has any intention of backing out either so there's that haha.

It /could/ be done reasonably - Caleb singlehandedly saves Jester's bacon from something crazy, for a single one off the the top of my head - but Laura went into this campaign planning to romance Fjord. It'd take something BIG to knock her from that intention. And yet, still I ship Widojest.

@@forgetfulcloud1914 Yeah, I think that Fjorester has the most potential to happen by default simply cause Jester's not actively trying to romance anyone else, but I don't think it's gotten serious enough to be a "thing" yet. It got darn close last time they were in Nicodranas, but hasn't taken that step. I'm still fully confident that either Widojest and Beaujester are active possibilities, particularly if either of those damaged peeps stop telling themselves they can't have anything good in their lives. Lol

I've never shipped anyone before in anything, but by episode 92 I realized how much I wanted them to be together. While I hear other ships go around, I think Jester and Caleb would greatly compliment each other's arcs. Caleb, who started this campaign thinking he was the worst of the worst and didn't deserving anything good in life, ending up with a person who emits positivity for a 5 mile radius, and Jester, who started this campaign new to world and never really knowing of the terribleness of the world, ending up with a person who has one of the most tragic and dark histories out of the party. Having both together to balance each other out is the best in my book; Jester bringing the light to Caleb and Caleb testing Jester with the darkness of the world. Sorry to my Beaujest and Fjorster critters out there, but Widojest is the best in a story telling point of view. (I also don't know the ship names. I never really touch shipping)
There's a theory out there. I don't know who started it, only that I'd like it if it were true.
Caleb is the traveler. Sometime in the future he becomes incredibly powerful and learns time travel. Rather than fix his past, he takes on the guise of the traveler and becomes the companion of a lonely child Jester to make her happy. Giving her powers and purpose.
It's not a perfect theory. But it would be fun.

Unfortunately I don't think there's any chance of this, since Liam and Laura still seem to feel like they're twins (at least at the game table)
This is so cute. And so soft. I've been warming up to their ship for a while now, and this just encapsulates all that I think is great about their dynamic. The expressions on Jester when she talks to Caleb are always so soft and full of joy, plus the pain in Caleb's when Yasha says "I don't need to tell her who"... I just... This is so good. I'm so emotional.
It's crazy how much of it was Subtle and behind the scenes. At first I was like "no way!" Then I looked back and was like "I was blind not to see this!"
At first, I was shipping Fjord and Jester because it was cute and it was even cuter they’re husband and wife irl. But then I started shipping Caleb and Jester and this just confirms it for me. Thank you for your amazing artwork, incredible job.
When it comes down to it Caleb makes the most sense, beu has a cruch, she want's someone like Jester, also there is Yasha. Jester only flirts with Fjord because Laura Bailey is picking on her husband, and Jester is basically romanticizing him due to her books, and is just breaking reality of realizing he's not perfect
Caleb was never perfect, she got to know him at his worst, and she's starting to see him at his best. The only thing stopping him is him. And oit of the 3 he loves her romanticly the most.
I love this so much, and I agree. Fjord and jester I feel are like those high-school couples that started out as bffs then get together, it could work out, it could not, it's still cute but it's not matured. Beau and jester are also cute but Beau has so many conflicting feelings between all the girls she's liked, she would really need to push it all away and stick to jester, also a maybe could and couldn't. Then Caleb and jester, all that you said, I really hope calab can have his moment with jester to truly show his feelings
@@mizukichan30 I don't think he'll ever just confess his feelings. He never really sticks his neck out unless he's doing math in his head and it seems like the only option. She'll have to figure it out on her own. He might only tell her a moment before he thinks he will die, and even then he would probably omit it if he has any reason to believe the knowledge would haunt her. I think Liam wants to play Caleb out like a tragedy because that's what resonates with him, and so I think Liam actually "wants" Caleb to keep the secret to his grave. I actually think it is more beautiful and memorable that way. But you never know. He wasn't planning on having feelings for Jester either.
@@FloStudios oh yeah, totally, as much as I would love to see it actually happen, I'm not holding my breath, we all know how Liam gets with his characters and their tragic stories (which I can't help but love how he works with sadness), Caleb/Liam will not easily give out anything and jester/Laura will keep blissfully ignorant. (BTW, this video is amazing)
@@FloStudios He'll never do it because it is how he tortures himself now. None of the Nein pick on him anymore, he needs the suffering so he can function. "Because I deserve it." That's why he said to Yasha "It's too late." Because he has to deny himself any happiness. The small amount he indulges in is only enough so it hurts more to know he can never really have it.
But maybe with Yasha's help and example that might change?

Ep 118 man... knew it was coming, but here I am. Happy for Travis getting out of his comfort zone, and for how cute and sweet and soft the scene was... and yet sad about my poor WidoJest ship having been sunk (barring Fjord dying and not being revivable for some reason).
I'ts not hard to love somebody wholeheartedly... but it's hard to belive that you are good enough for her/him...

I've only rewatched this a dozen times and it only makes my heart light and bring tears to my eyes...
I like their dynamic more so then with fjord and beau because i don't feel like caleb talks down to her so much? i mean with fjord and beau it's very outward appearance based i supposed and they seem to like her because she's so happy all the time. i like how caleb finds a more sensitive and emotional side to jester that i like and he seems to relax a little whenever he's with her. this might just be because i miss the dynamic caleb and molly had alot and i feel like jester kinda filled the void for him. like she's not molly's replacement but she get's calebs pain of losing someone and also regretting past actions like how she can't see her mother without hiding herself and caleb can't face astrid or the fact he was the cause of his parent's death. just a very supportive dynamic where they get eachother. also stinky squishy human wizard with his adorable tanky healer gf is just an adorable pairing i think.

Awe man I've been Fjorester trash since the beginning of the campaign, but I think that mostly just comes from Travis and Laura's chemistry as a married couple. While Fjorester is just very flirty, Widojest is so much softer. Jester has taught Caleb to open up more and let go of some of his guilt and self loathing, and thanks to Caleb, Jester has started to accept that it's okay to not be okay sometimes. They really keep eachother grounded. Thank you for this, it's so cute 😢
Ah! Just the gentle, almost forgiving, whisper at the end makes this one of the most heartbreaking scenes.

I can't lie, I never saw Jester and Celeb as a thing. Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention, but I always kinda saw it as Fjord + Jester (probably because Laura is trying to force Travis to partake in dnd romance XD)
But after deciding to watch a Widojest animatic and actually looking into it- *HOLY SHIT Y'ALL, I SHIP THIS SO HARD!*

I've only seen 21 episodes of Campaign 2 so far, and there actually were a few small Jester+Caleb moments. But I also think there were rare Yasha+Caleb moments, according two how Yasha sounds at this "dialogue", I guess there actually is something, I'll find that out sooner or later.

I just noticed the progression with Jester‘s hair, which is really cool.
It starts out rather short and grows almost with each scene until it goes well past her shoulders.
(Biggest change is also when the outfits switch)

It’s pretty depressing when you see Caleb find opportunities for Fjord and Jester to be alone and flirty when he probably still really loves her but just doesn’t think he’s good enough to be with her.

This is really fabulous. Love this compilation. I'm like super late to this ship. But the last few episodes, I started noticing how Caleb was looking at Jester and then I guess I missed that v important Talks, cuz I just saw that a couple days ago. Look, I love Fjord x Jester and originally wanted them to be together but JFC YALL, Jester is so good for Caleb, and Caleb is so kind and caring with Jester. Every little moment makes me want this ship more and more.

god, this is probably the sappiest, most unprompted annoying thing I've ever commented. I owe this animatic everything, I don't remember what I was watching (probably animatics) in August 2020 when this got recommended to me, I watched it, enjoyed it and these characters I don't even know, and watched another wj animatic, and some wj clips and some caleb clips and some supercuts and all of a sudden it's September and I'm watching the first episode of critical role campaign two. I watch the campaign (somehow finish up to 117 in 2 months) and begin watching live, those livestreams and community, get me through the next couple of months. fast forward a couple more and it's 5 am on a Friday and I'm bawling my eyes out because a dnd campaign ended (crazy huh), it's almost the start of campaign three and it's been over a whole year since I found this silly little dnd show that gave me some of the best friendships in my life, told me some things I need to hear and made me laugh my ass off at 2am, so I wanted to return to what started it. Thank you Linzer, this is a beautiful animatic

Probably the best ship in campaign 2, both of these characters need each other more than any other member of the nein, Jester keeps Caleb hopeful and is restoring his sense of self worth, and Caleb nicely balances out Jester naivete, supporting her where he can and stepping in to steer her in the right direction when necessary
At heart they are both silly, curious, caring, deep-thinking people with dreams wilder than wealth and absolution. I'm sure Fjord would be a good mate, but I do think, all things being real, Jester would come to bore of him.
I ship it so much.

I think Travis would be more than fine with it if Laura wasn't pushing for the pairing so hard. Travis said himself he isn't fond of romance in DnD.

I went nuts when Liam said during a Talks Machina episode that Caleb does in fact love Jester.

@@dirttrackart whats even better is at a panel at c2e2 Laura openly confirmed that Jester is blissfully unaware that everyone is crushing on her.
Seems like Travis and Laura have stopped pursuing that, I don't see Jester crushing on anyone atm.
@@acm4bass their's has been changing originally it was a child's first crush but the reaction to the big hat and their dinner at the lavish chateau shows me its still there but its maturing.
