That one is the quintessentional Mylène clip. Je te rends ton amour musically and visually is incredibly stunning, that electric guitar storm in the last chorus always gives me the strongest goosebumps a song has ever been able to give me.
Don't forget too : BEYOND MY CONTROL in May 1992 (4th and last single, remixed for single release and better than album version), censored and scandalous video (Mylène burns on a pyre cuz a destructive passion for a belligerent who cheats on her with a blonde woman) , broadcast title late at night on M6 TV Channel which will refuse to broadcast it in the daytime except CANAL + and MCM . We hear a sample of John Malkovich's voice taken from Dangerous Liaisons movie (1988) in the song. Very interesting!

I´ve seen several of your videos Dereck so far but now is the time to subscribe. You feel music like I seldom see in other people and that´s beautiful. My first reaction to hearing California around 2009 was just like yours. I was completely blown away and still after so many years I get goosebumps on hearing it. It is a musical masterpiece and the best thing about it is it sounds so easy and casual like the last thing Myléne was trying to impress someone. There´s so much depth and melancholy in it that it almost hurts, though in a good way.
What you make me think about this song (that is one of my favourite) is that the 2 Mylène have one point in commun: they are boring of her life and they are not free. The both are stuck with a bossy man putting the pressure on her. And I think when the rich Mylène saw the Mylène prostitue she realize that their life were similar (unhappy, boring, under pressure). When the prostitue Mylène was killed because she tried to rebel against the man, the rich Mylène tries to avenge, to rebel and to free oneself from this domination.
Oh my god Dereck thank you, it feels so good to see someone like you reacting to Mylène ! What's great is that you have a whole universe to discover, it's phenomenal ! I love your videos on Mylène Farmer !!! 💕
I had an awful day, but you reacting to California made it ok again, so thanks! Check out XXL for Rock Mylene! And Je te rends ton amour is a MUST ! Can't waiy for next thursday 😉
First of all I am happy that you reacted to it, I was one of the ppl who suggested it. The sultry California is a kick-off song to her 1995 album Anamorphosée, which she recorded in Los Angeles. This is my favorite Mylene album because it sounds drastically different from the rest of her albums. It has a lot of American rock influences, with the organic sounds of electric guitars, bass, electronic organs, the heavy beats, etc. - which is why the album does not sound dated... and California is the finest example of that! It is one of my favorite Mylene's songs... it is also obvious that she likes it too as she performs it on almost every tour! A couple factors played into why she temporarily relocated to the USA....1) her mega success after 1991 album L'Autre (from which Desenchantee is a huge hit) and 2) her flop 1993 movie Giorgino. Staying in France after such a turbulence was too much for her! Her long time collaborator Laurent Boutonnat must totally be credited as he is the one mostly responsible for the melodies and the arrangement. California is the best song on the album, but there are others that have a more hard rock feel to them.... Vertige, L'Instant X and XXL. Rever is a rock ballad that is another iconic song that she performs on every tour!
thank you for your videos. It's nice to see that Mylène Farmer is appreciated by English speakers😉😉. Thank you for your sharp analyzes. Good continuation. A French fan of Mylène 😁.
Once again liked the video before watching 🙂 love this video of Mylene, my faves are "Je te rends ton amour" and "Fuck Them All", IDK if you can find the "je te rends ton amour" on youtube, but it's freakin iconic 💕 thanks for making these Mylene videos, youtube got better 4 me coz of that
Mylène is the Elvis Presley for her beauty, her presence, the Mickael Jackson for the clips and the choreography, and the Madonna to fill the concerts. If only the French could recognize, as you do, Mylène's talent. She is more loved and respected in Russia. I hope she's got it in America now thanks to you, Dereck. thank you so much
Mylène is magical! There's a lot of MV's you should react to. I'm thinking of "Libertine", "Pourvu qu'elle soient douces", "Sans contrefaçon", "Désenchantée", "L'instant X", "XXL", "Je te rends ton amour", "l'âme stram-gram", "C'est une belle journée", "Dégéneration", "Oui...mais non!" and so much more! it's delighful
My favorite song of MYLENE FARMER... I don't know this lovely dereck but it's fun he's interested by French music ( of 80's) A good curiosity like Brian Velez has.
^^^ Thank you Derek... See why her fanbase is so strong... once you discover those sounds and universe, there's no turning back! Thank you for this video... Can't wait for your video on "Libertine" and "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces !", if I may recommend (completely agree with previous comments)..... Cheers!
« California » is my favorite song ever of Mylène! Everything is so good in this track, from the music, the lyrics, the movie... so sensual, sexy and bewitching in a way!
I've seen some of your reactions on Mylene, Derek, thanks for taking the time to do this... really enjoying this! I was in the Bercy concert in 2006 and yes it is a cinematic magical experience that transfers you to a different world. Check out "Degeneration" and "Fuck them all" , would love to see a reaction on it! Thanks again!
It’s one of my favorite songs from his 90’s period... The music video is incredible, the music beautiful, nothing to complain about. Thx to react to this incredible song
The fact that Mylène Farmer called on Abel Ferrara for a video clip could not be more natural. Ferrara has an artistic universe which could not but attract her. It's characteristic of someone who is curious and wishes to confront an experience which Mylène knew that this meeting could only be artistically and humanly rich. She was not mistaken. It's hard to explain to you in detail who Ferrara is...
POOR LITTLE GIRL!
Oh Derek! When you said "it makes me think of Basic Instinct, the movie" I was like "you don't even know the end of the MV, how do you know???" So glad that you decided to listen to that song, her album Anamorphose is considered her best album by the critics, the fact that she spent months in California helped her create new songs, more rock on sound level (L'instant X, XXL are proof of that). I'm joining other comments, if you can find the MV of "Je te rends ton amour" uncensored (at the time it was censored by channels, with only a broadcast between midnight and 5am so she decided to sell VHS of the MV and the funds were donated to AIDS charity), you will bluffed as well (and guess what, drums!!! right in the intro ;) ) Have a great day
You should look at the clip to Je te rends ton amour 😍😍😍 and if you want some rock then look her 96 concert: the song XXL and the entrance with the song Vertige 🤟🤟🤟
I love how you're barely paying attention to the music video because you're so into the music 😂😂😂 It's one of my favorite songs of her so I understand!
This track is REALLY cool, tha pads are gorgeous and THE BASS! The bass is held by no other than Abe Laboriel, best bassist in the world and a very beautiful human
I'm going to wait for the subtitles to better comment on what you're saying, I'm having a hard time following. But in any case, I can tell you that I always look forward to your reactions on MF. And this song always does something to me, makes me wanna move sensually by closing my eyes. For the producer, at first he didn't want to do a music video for MF, but when she wants something, she gets it and Mylène paid the price and the result is magnificent. But I agree with another comment. You absolutely have to watch the long versions of Libertine then of Pourvu Qu'elles soient Douces.
As Fleur writes, try these 2 official clips in long version and in that order "Libertine" and "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces". Thanks in advance Dereck! I'm French and I love your reactions! ;) I love all music in the world, and I would like everyone to know that such an artist exists!
Thanks dear Dereck ❤️ all the album « anamorphosee » is just a jewel! Do more track from this album 💪 and also « the farmer project »!! And also « the 2013 opening of her « timeless tour » and also...
Hahaha I see You like wa-wa guitar like me. I don't know if you've take attention to the break with guitar in last part of song very inspired by Prince I think. Derek, her last title is outed on YT. I see your enthusiasm for this vidéo and I just can agree with @Fleur d ... I can't wait your react on "Libertine" and "Pourvu qu'elle soient douces" which are respectively titles from 1986 and 1988. It's really important to note this to really understand what artistic revolution it was at that time. Of course with today's rap videos we're in stone now. But believe me in 86, it wasn't the same. Therefore, I think if they were out in the United States at that time, the both videos surely would have been totally censored (and maybe even today). I'd also like you react to two performances of Lara Fabian (the both videos exist in English subtitles version). The first is "Je suis malade Lara Fabian French and English subtitles" (cut and paste to search on Google). But for this one I advise you first to read the English translation of the lyrics. Then, to see the original performed by Serge Lama who's also lyrics author of this song (the music is by Alice Dona, his best friend). Look for "Serge Lama Je suis malade | INA Archive" (cut and paste to search on Google). Why am I asking you this? In fact, it's so that you can compare the two very different ways of approaching the song. Serge Lama, if we pay attention, puts himself in the shoes of the child he was to interpret the song. We feel in his interpretation that's the child who speaks. For Lara Fabian, it's completely different. She puts herself in the shoes of the woman who suffers (. In addition, it will allow you to soak up the magnificent construction of the song which will crescendo in emotion, from sadness to anger. This will also allow you to get your ear used to the melody and the meaning of the text to better approach Lara's version. The second "Lara Fabian & Johnny Hallyday - Requiem for a madman (English subtitles)" is her very first major performance on stage in front of a full stadium. It's for the Johnny Hallyday 1998 concert in "Stade De France" in Paris (see below to understand who Johnny is and therefore for her the terrible anguish and excitement that it must have been. She will say it later: "This moment is the most important moment and the best remembrance of all my career") which in this way will take off the career of Lara. I'm sure, you've never seen Lara sing like this ... oh my Gosh! She's so "rock n 'roll"! :) ...incredible! I'll really enjoy your reaction if you see that. lol (In France, Johnny Hallyday was nicknamed by other artists "Le patron (the boss)" like Bruce Springsteen in USA. During his funeral - video available on YT - on December 9, 2017, a "popular tribute" was paid to him in Paris with a musical descent by the funeral procession of the Champs-Élysées followed by 700 bikers and in front of nearly a million people, a eulogy by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron on the forecourt of the Madeleine church in the presence of many political personalities, song , cinema and media, all broadcast live by the 24-hour news channels and the two large general-interest French television channels, TF1 and France 2, lasting more than five hours and watched by 14.4 million viewers). Sorry for my bad English, I'm French. :)
When i listen the music of the 80's and 90's i realise that we have loose so much quality in music and creativity but i was not realize it that time
New generations are so bad, with weak intelligent now...
And globally, USA and Europe were so much better and stronger in the 80's-90's.

Oh my god Dereck thank you, it feels so good to see someone like you reacting to Mylène !
What's great is that you have a whole universe to discover, it's phenomenal ! I love your videos on Mylène Farmer !!! 💕
you have to react to the music video of Mylène Farmer "Que mon coeur lache" made by Besson (The fifth element)
Great choice !
Yes !!!
Please go for it !!
big shout out to Abel Ferrara who directed this amazing video. 25 years later, still have goosebumps listening to this
thx Dereck.
I had an awful day, but you reacting to California made it ok again, so thanks!
Check out XXL for Rock Mylene!
And Je te rends ton amour is a MUST !
Can't waiy for next thursday 😉
I think like you! ;-) Strongly!
!!! Couldn’t agree more with what you said
thank you for your videos. It's nice to see that Mylène Farmer is appreciated by English speakers😉😉. Thank you for your sharp analyzes. Good continuation. A French fan of Mylène 😁.
Once again liked the video before watching 🙂 love this video of Mylene, my faves are "Je te rends ton amour" and "Fuck Them All", IDK if you can find the "je te rends ton amour" on youtube, but it's freakin iconic 💕 thanks for making these Mylene videos, youtube got better 4 me coz of that
For a good version of "je te rends ton amour" you should search on Vimeo
Fuck them all is a wonderful clip ♡♡♡
Yeas!!
Mylène is the Elvis Presley for her beauty, her presence, the Mickael Jackson for the clips and the choreography, and the Madonna to fill the concerts. If only the French could recognize, as you do, Mylène's talent. She is more loved and respected in Russia. I hope she's got it in America now thanks to you, Dereck. thank you so much
My favourite from Mylène so far!
Esposito played the character Gus Fring in Breaking Bad (The owner of Pollos Hermanos) , actually he is in the Mandalorian as Moff Gideon.
Hello from France, i think & i hope you'll one day add Mylene Farmer on your wall screen behind you ;) nice reactions keep it on !
I worked for her on her Tour 25 years ago
Mylène is magical! There's a lot of MV's you should react to. I'm thinking of "Libertine", "Pourvu qu'elle soient douces", "Sans contrefaçon", "Désenchantée", "L'instant X", "XXL", "Je te rends ton amour", "l'âme stram-gram", "C'est une belle journée", "Dégéneration", "Oui...mais non!" and so much more! it's delighful
He already did "Désenchantée" 😉
My favorite song of MYLENE FARMER... I don't know this lovely dereck but it's fun he's interested by French music ( of 80's) A good curiosity like Brian Velez has.
Yes !!!!! YES !!!! FUCKING YES!!!!!!!!!!!DUDE YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!
I'm just waiting for "Libertine" + "Pourvue Qu'elles Soient Douces" music videos now ! 😂
I strongly advise you to listen to his song "que mon cœur lâche" the clip is directed by Luc Besson, it is one of his masterpieces
As the majority here I'm voting for Je te rends ton amour to be next
^^^ Thank you Derek...
See why her fanbase is so strong... once you discover those sounds and universe, there's no turning back!
Thank you for this video...
Can't wait for your video on "Libertine" and "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces !", if I may recommend (completely agree with previous comments)..... Cheers!
California is such a wonderful song and clip! The lyrics are amazing too (dans le rétro, ma vie qui s'anamorphose
« California » is my favorite song ever of Mylène! Everything is so good in this track, from the music, the lyrics, the movie... so sensual, sexy and bewitching in a way!
Melodies that stick IMMEDIATLY! You can hum along right away.
Her best one !!!!! 😍😍 Timeless
Thanks again!
the whole f*cking album is amazing!
It’s one of my favorite songs from his 90’s period... The music video is incredible, the music beautiful, nothing to complain about.
Thx to react to this incredible song
Same , I always get tingles with this
The fact that Mylène Farmer called on Abel Ferrara for a video clip could not be more natural. Ferrara has an artistic universe which could not but attract her. It's characteristic of someone who is curious and wishes to confront an experience which Mylène knew that this meeting could only be artistically and humanly rich. She was not mistaken. It's hard to explain to you in detail who Ferrara is...
MAGNIFIQUE !!!
Mylène Farmer is the best singer in the universe. I adore her😍😍😍♥️♥️♥️
Mylène is a huge phenomenon in Russia!
@@fab4354 😉 😆
Her best song, no doubt.
You should react to "L'instant X" a really good Mylene song as well 🥰
Yes! Agree with you. I put the link for him as XXL too and COMME J'AI MAL so that he knows "Farmerian" universe and many more! ☺
I think like you! We don't care what those who don't like! ^^
I'm joining other comments, if you can find the MV of "Je te rends ton amour" uncensored (at the time it was censored by channels, with only a broadcast between midnight and 5am so she decided to sell VHS of the MV and the funds were donated to AIDS charity), you will bluffed as well (and guess what, drums!!! right in the intro ;) )
Have a great day
13K oh my god it's insane ! mylène the best obviously
! and now i'm addicted to you lol
I'm addicted to Mylene!!🔥
@@DereckReacts You become a Mylene's fan! ;- )
@@DereckReacts It's a good sign! ^^
You should look at the clip to Je te rends ton amour 😍😍😍 and if you want some rock then look her 96 concert: the song XXL and the entrance with the song Vertige 🤟🤟🤟
And the video is directed by Abel Ferrara, who also did "Bad Lieutenant" (1992), "King of New York" (1990) and "Ms .45" (1981) films as well.
More Mylène, yay!!!
Amazing Mylene!
my favourite Mylène clip is l'Ame-Stram-Gram.But there are so many wonderful clips like Pourvu qu'elles soient douces.
Cool. Mylène is a goddess. Can't wait for your next Mylène réaction.
I love how you're barely paying attention to the music video because you're so into the music 😂😂😂
It's one of my favorite songs of her so I understand!
Hi Derek.
I think you should watch "c'est une belle journée" live timeless by Mylène Farmer.
(2013)
You are going to have a good surprise.
With Giancarlo Esposito "Gus Fring"
Thanks dear Dereck ❤️ all the album « anamorphosee » is just a jewel! Do more track from this album 💪 and also « the farmer project »!! And also « the 2013 opening of her « timeless tour » and also...
Mylène farmer is my favorite singer try next time "degeneration" Vidéo clip is very good ☺
super dereck , look her single and clip " si j'avais au moins " 😍😍😍😍
You must watch the "The Farmer Project" which is made of 2 videoclips for two songs that are connected in the story line.
Excellent 🍀🏆🏆🏆🍀 as usual! Thank you, Dear Dereck. 💐🍀💐🍀💐😘
I'll really enjoy your reaction if you see that. lol
(In France, Johnny Hallyday was nicknamed by other artists "Le patron (the boss)" like Bruce Springsteen in USA.
This is literally my exact reaction when I first heard this song
Merci beaucoup, continue please
