In 1996 , Mylene lost her older brother to a bad car crash...so the emotions were very high and intense in her songs, hence her frequent breakdowns...God Bless her, she has the voice of the Angels...
In my memory she lost her brother just before in a car accident and she was very emotional in 1996 that's why.
The lyrics of this song are very deep. And, she lost her brother that year, so she did that tour with a heavy heart.
Mylène is very well known for getting emotional during her concerts. The other ballad you reacted to was “Point de suture,” but she usually sings “Rêver” and “Ainsi soit-je” during her concerts and gets emotional during them all! They have profound meaning and I think the fact that her fans love her so much overwhelms her. You will see that if she stops singing the audience will pick up for her.

Mylène is such a beloved and recognized artist (in France)... she broke all the records: sales of albums, singles, duration at the top of the sales, she had all the awards for the best artist, singer, she has just broken records again lately with his latest album...
A few years ago, she won all the trophies at the NRJ Music Awards, she asked herself to no longer be named.
She doesn't want to overshadow anyone, she respects others, and lives discreetly, far from the journalists she doesn't need, because her audience simply loves her. Where's Mylene at ?
I'm a huge Mylène fan and have enjoyed so many of her live shows, and probably other fans will destroy me for this. I have always been quite suspicious about whether her reactions during these emotional songs are spontaneous. If you attend several performances of the same show you realize that every evening Mylène always says exactly the same words at exactly the same times and starts crying at the exact same second during the ballads, making it feel like all of it is totally planned in advance. But at least it's still very emotional and enjoyable for the audience!

you can watch her in the rehearsals of her 2019 show, she can't finish a song as she's emotional, and there is no audience...

I had listened to this song a lot more in AUDIO, especially on the 2-track CD of the time as the second track of "La Poupee Qui fait Non Live" released in 1997, of which there is also a MAXI CD in crystal case for the normal edition and a Limited Edition version in DIGIPACK.
This song "L'Autre" (The Other) is taken from her third studio album of the same name released on April 8, 1991 (containing the HUGE HIT: "Désenchantée/Disenchanted") as the third track of this opus considered to be ONE of her BEST of her career.
Honestly, I prefer the ORIGINAL VERSION of 1991 musically speaking (my personal choice) because I find it much better and with the sound of the time (early 90's which still has this little "80's" side with the synths but slightly different from the previous era) with also all the "non-singles" songs from this wonderful album (the BEST of the 90's for me even if I love the other two from the same decade) that I think you should listen to as Pas De Doute, Il N'Y A Pas D'Ailleurs, Agnus Dei and the new 1991 version of "Psychiatric" (released in 1989 on the 45 RPM/Maxi 45 RPM but also Maxi CD by ALLAN Live in two versions: 7" and 12").
This album is "out of time" for me when you listen to it and I even like the album versions of singles like "Je T'Aime Mélancolie" or "Beyond My Control" which will be released in "remixed" or reworked versions for singles (45 RPM, Maxi 45 RPM, single cassette, maxi CD'S).
A whole era!
"L'Autre/The Other" was sung for the first time on stage on all dates of the 1996 Tour (from May 25, 1996 to December 15, 1996).
This title is chosen to be the "B-side" (or second track) of the first single from the album Live à Bercy, "La Poupee Qui Fait Non Live" released on April 29, 1997 and in a shortened version (5'15 against 5'50 on the live album version).
The song is a bit complex, it can deal with the other me (the other part of us especially in the mirror), another person, someone who has no name, no flesh with multiple interpretations.
You also have as "non single" and second song on track 2 on the other 2-track CD "Ainsi Soit Je... Live" (1997), the track "Et Tournoie..." which is also very beautiful LIVE from her previous album "Anamorphosée".
For this Tour 1996, you miss the single "Rêver/Dream" but the PROMO version of the CLIP TV because the performance is more emotional and Mylène is wrong in the lyrics.Magic moment!
