Nope, I've "hung around" at a conservatory and got one of those bachelors in contemporary music on piano. This definitely is rehearsed. Even the Beatles have songs that professional musicians have to figure out a little before they can play them. He probably figured it out before the show and walked through it with the Roots for a few minutes before the show.

@@Xinergy I think this could’ve been made beforehand, or not. Improvisation is actually a pretty big thing for a lot of musicians. Jazz is mostly based off of it. The chords and rhythms he was playing were pretty damn simple too. This is probably something I could play on the fly as well as many other people. While he’s very talented this isn’t a very out of this world skill to have. (For the record I’m not pulling this out of no where, I am a musician)

Sound engineering adds the effect through the mic. I do it myself and it’s a lot harder than it sounds because if the singer changes technique it’s really obvious so you have to smooth it out fast and adjust lol.
