As someone who is quite a bit older than you, your reminder that money is a “renewable resource” while time is not is a very important one. I am more and more conscious every day of not wanting to waste time or to spend it in ways that do not make me happy.
As someone who struggled a lot with low self-esteem I jumped into selp-improvement really deeply and it quickly began to make me worse. After a lot of ups and downs I've found my own approach to it. I simply tell myself that I want to try something. Try learning, try understanding, try doing, try changing. Omitting phrases like "working on myself" or "improving" seems to really trick my mind. From feeling like I'm always gonna be "not enough" I went to actually enjoying this new stuff. Without pressure or judgement. Maybe this will help someone ❤
I m 75. I have neither time nor money. And my health prevents me from ‘renewing’ my source of money. Like most old people in the US, I live on social security. It’s not much. So now I’m trying a new avenue, lowering my expenses. I’m trying to sell my house. I don’t really know where I will live, perhaps in my car. I just know I can’t afford this house. I hope I will be able to buy a little trailer outright that I can live in but not have house payments. We will see. I am still getting rid of stuff. Winnowing my things down, down, down. At least I won’t leave a big mess for my family to clean up after me. And I’m enjoying feeling less encumbered. More free.
I love your videos. No need for new lights, microphones or anything else. For me, it’s the content. Your perspectives are thought provoking and I always enjoy listening. Keep doing what you are doing.
Ana, the lighting and the sound on this video really seemed fine to me. Things can always be fine-tuned and fine-tuned, but why, when it's actually okay? I have never noticed a problem with the production values of any of your work. Just please keep up your warm and wise sharing. I value your thoughtful reflections and your honesty and openess and I share many of your values, so I get a lot out of each offering. Thank you very much for all your work.
Thank you so much for sharing these messages 🙏❤️ that I agree so much with. As someone living with cronic illness and disability I learnt to live in the moment! I enjoy the moment more than I ever did. I don’t need so much, but cherish my crafting supplies such as papers, yarns, fabric, tools that help me so I can craft as much as I love. And most of course my hubby 😍 and being with each other. Lots of Love and hugs❤
Hi Ana! I have also unsubscribed to many channels. I think I am down to 5? The only ones I have stayed with are the ones who I feel help improve my physical/mental health. Making the conscious decision to stay away from news channels has certainly improved my health!
I prefer to be a minimalist to being frugal. I have been frugal and using things so as not to consume that brings no joy, is not for me after years of frugality. I have learnt that minimalism is the way, you choose yourself what you like and will treasure for years to come as you use it Your videos are perfect, you must not fret about the sound quality, it is something I have never paid any attention too in your videos nor if you film with a camera or phone. The content is so good that that is irrelevant 😊
Hello, thank you Ana for mentioning the "teacher metaphor". I try to perceive everything I see, hear, read as a food. All stimuli are somehow digested by my mind and build-in my personality. It means that good quality content nourish and develop and the bad one can contaminate and even make sick. I think our choice has a great meaning, especially now, when our time and attention have become resources to be traded and monetized.
I believe money is extremely important, money is freedom, freedom to buy meals, water for thirst, Health Care. Maslow's Law so to speak. Always good seeing you, you bring warmth, and give hope.
My relationship with money is similar to yours, even though I haven't had lived the extreme conditions that you have lived in the past. Before spending, I often feel consternation and guilt in some way or another. After spending, I feel free and have a sense of either having done something good with my money or I just easily move on from perhaps a bad financial decision. Understanding these things helps me to keep trying to overcome and learn tactics to improve the "before" mentality.
Yes, there are too many mind-numbing TH-cam channels and I have been unsubscribing from many of them. I do not want to go down the social media rabbit hole so no longer on FB, Instagram, X. Never watched TikTok. Yes, our time is precious and we must learn not to waste it. I am now on a minimalist journey. Your channel inspires me to live life with less stuff. Never heard of crab mentality but the bucket analogy makes sense. Those that are down do not want to be alone. Anna, great video.
I must disagree with the assumption that what we are “fed“ is of no use or intended to control our minds or dumb us down. I believe the algorithm is exactly what you make it, not an evil entity. I am served new and wondrous things daily. Now that would have taken me a lifetime to run across. It’s like baking: If you put good ingredients in to the algorithm, you get good cake out.
I liked your earlier videos with stock photos, as I felt all the images and quotes were selected with thoughtfulness and care. I love your video footage of the different places you've lived because it expanded my knowledge of the world and people in it. Although I'm less interested in the topic of minimalism, because it seems done to death, I appreciate you and therefore appreciate your take on it. But it is you and not the topic of minimalism that I am following. So feel free to continue to evolve as life takes you. And again there is no greater truth than the value of time over money. Happy autumn!
Thank you once again, dear Ana, for a calm and thoughtful video. I am currently re-evaluating how I want to live my life, as I am coming to terms with health changes as a result of a nasty episode of covid. I have to prioritise my health and ensure I make time to rest enough so that I can find energy to do the important things (the must-dos and the want-to-dos).
Time and quality of time are the most precious resources humans have. Of course we need our basic needs met and for many this is where minimalism shines. No need to be ascetic unless that's what you choose, but keeping expenses low when possible and enjoying quality as we're able. Ana, you exemplify this dynamic balance in so many ways. Thank you!
Being a subscriber of your TH-cam channel and a member of your Patreon will always be a very wise use of time and money. 🤗 You, and the art + insights + specialties you bring to the world, are so appreciated and admired, Ana! ❤
Hello Ana 🖐. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and how you spend your money. I'm not a minimalist and I spend most of my money on travels. It's a good investment, it makes me feel good, gives me energy and I have fond memories. Time is also a very valuable currency and I try to spend it with people who I really like. Everybody has different needs and we all should spend it, how it suits us. Have a lovely Sunday ❤️
Oh dear Ana, I can't tell you how much I enjoy and value each and every video of yours, in substance and form !! I'm so happy that you are on my path dear friend 😊 I follow very few channels here on TH-cam but yours is very precious to me and if I had to only keep one it would be yours, but of course as you are the only friend I have here !! The Seneca's quote is very deep and powerful, it perfectly sums up your ideas 😇 Thanks a lot dear Ana, I send you a warm hug ❤️🌿🧁
The vlog from Yerevan was inspiring and interesting. You give so much to your community, it’s a privilege to be a part of it. Thank you so much for your ‘teaching’ on minimalism which I adhere to as a way of reserving my energy, so I have enough to invest in areas which are of value to me.
Thank you for this video. I always enjoy watching your videos and they remind me to live my life in line with my values. I am also intentional about the amount and kind of media I consume. But your videos are always thought provoking, calm and entertaining. They really add value to me. Then it really doesn't matter that you don't have fancy lights and expensive microphones. ;)
Thank you for this thought-provoking video, Ana! I also found your quote - The most important thing to remember is that money is a renewable resource while time is not - to be true. You shared several meaningful thoughts on the gift of choice, as it applies to where we focus our energy and skills, what items we bring into our lives and homes (quality, not quantity ☺️), and how to live sustainably with our choices. Lots to consider, and a good blend of realism and optimism. Superb!
Yes, time is our most precious resource, and how we spend it requires our mindful attention. I am yet to find a channel through which to express my creativity in day to day life, but I crave it greatly. I regularly make attempts at creative pursuits such as slow stitching, writing and making music, but it feels like I have a mental block against doing these things regularly. I have issues with perfection, and not having the patience to learn and be 'bad' at things. I'm trying to embrace making 'bad' art, be patient with and just enjoying the process. For example, I find it so much easier to use free time to go out "thrifting" (in the UK it is charity shops) and search for exciting items, it's like I'm always seeking clothes to express my identity because I can't access other forms of expression. However this is increasingly leaving me feeling empty and unfulfilled. I think I might also be subconsciously preventing myself from having time to create! I often watch your videos but rarely comment, but today you inspired one! Thanks for the video :)
Thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment ❤️ I can understand your procrastination as I deal with it too sometimes. The fear of being creative and making something is real, because it's about vulnerability and also expectations, so the best way to handle it is to ditch any expectations 😊
I totally agree with you : going from one extreme to another is not sustainable. I tried it for some sides of my life and each time, it was not a good thing ^^ Just like you, I value a kind of middle ground for things like productivity, mental and physical health, etc. And I agree too : money is renewable while time is not. But as you usually have to spend time to earn money in jobs and all, we might as well do jobs we enjoy (or at least don't hate !)
Hi! I'm your new subscriber and I'm so happy to find such a wonderful place😊 thank you for your thoughts and ideas 🙏 а ещё мне очень нравится Ваш английский, так красиво говорите, хочется сидеть и записывать❤
Dear Ana another really good informative video. Time is precious for sure & we should make the most of each day. So happy you had a holiday to refresh yourself. Experiences are so enriching. Have a lovely week ahead ❤ btw love your knitted top the color really suits you ❤
I have always valued time over money - sometimes to my own detriment 😅 but I'd rather that. Sometimes I wish for more money, simply because living in the UK is very expensive, but I suspect all that would change is that my living expenses would also become more and I'm not sure that would be more fulfilling. So I remind myself that money is necessary, yes, but it does not bring meaning or purpose, and the security it provides is not as secure as we are led to believe. Anyway, another thought provoking and gentle video, Ana, thank you ❤
I just bought an e-ink writing tablet that I shouldn’t have. After a recent death in the family I’ve begun spending as a way of dealing with painful emotions and I should not do that. Thank you for the video
I wish my selfe to be a minimalist :) But I have a passion for watches. It is mathematics, physics and art in one koctel :) and I can not stop to buy them :) maybe my collection is not expensive but there is no incidental peace .
I really agree with you that money is a resource that benefits from flowing and moving. But for the last year maybe, I’ve still been stuck in a kind of scarcity space. Partly because of real limits (ie how much wiggle room I have financially), but partly also because of this feeling of ‘I can’t’ or ‘I shouldn’t’. I recognise that the heavy moral weight on any ‘frivolous’ spending is not helping me - can I then even enjoy what I spend on? - but on the other hand, I can still end up feeling that my spending impulses just result in more and more possessions. Do I love them to a worthwhile degree? Are they just going to become future decluttering problems? I wondered how you balance the wish to keep money flowing and the possibility of accumulating (too many?) possessions.
Great video, unsubscribing from a whole bunch of Channels might be the best move I've made. I always felt I had to watch.. not having them pop up takes the pressure off.
This is something I need to be reminded of every day: money is a renewable resource but time is not. I would rather pay for grocery delivery, for example, than travel to the store and back, potentially buy things that weren't needed right now, and get worn out in the process. As always, thank you for another thought-provoking video!
Speaking of dreaming, risking, and investing don't forget to invest some of your savings in stocks. An US S&P500 index fund is very good. A little added every month adds up over the years. The magic of compounded interest. ❤ ☮
We were educated to be consumers instead of being educated consumers. The one with the most toys wins idea. Lol. As a result money have destroyed many relationships between spouses, friends, families, and even nations. In addition, causes fights and ppl will die and kill for it. And its kind of sad and funny at the same time bc money, its just a piece of paper that carries a lot of wieght. ☹😂. That wieght can cause depression esp if you haven't been educated in knowing how to handle it or your money. Life comes at you hard and at the speed of light. Saving money is good for one's mental health if you have that luxury or are able to. Many ppl dont have that luxury or weren't educated in finance which can be confusing and an exuse why theyre crazy with money. Money can drive you crazy. Not only having you spending but spinning in the process. Lol. Most ppl dont count down to the last penny or understand percentages on the dollar. Jesus was educated in economics bc he was able to feed 5,000 ppl with two fish and a loaf of bread. Either Jesus was educated in economics or he had 2 big fish. A minimalist morals simply states that less is more and more is less or have found the mean between the extremities of clutter and emptiness. In the process have become considerate of others.
Feel free to share your personal insights on spending time and money, dear friends!

Hi Anastasia! Thank you for another thoughtful video!
It seems frugalism and intentionalism are rather different things! Thank you for your perspective on money and using it!

I absolutely will 😊
I really agree with you that money is a resource that benefits from flowing and moving. But for the last year maybe, I’ve still been stuck in a kind of scarcity space.
