    It's a tragedy that there's almost no footage from the '70s, apart from Live At Pompeii. The video quality of The Wall Tour is poor as well, and it's never been officially released. Luckily the audio from that tour was preserved much better, and in the end that's the most important part. But hey, the '94 tour was brilliant, you should watch more of that before you give a final opinion :)

    • @psychedelicpiper999
      @psychedelicpiper999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At least we have lots of audio footage. If you think that's bad, the Syd Barrett era has barely audio and video. And the small bits that do exist sound amazing, it makes you weep there isn't more. Least with the 70's shows, there's so many to hear, it's hard to get around to all of them.

    • @pinkfloyd.appreciation
      @pinkfloyd.appreciation 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a crime that there's not much known 70s footage to speak of,I think footage does exist it just needs to be discovered,in some production company archives or in some tv stations basements there must be some dusty gems,plus ppl don't realise what they've got or they don't realise its importance,the Grantchester meadows footage was found after 40 years on a shelf so there's always a chance.

  • @Pulsar77

    If you have to pick a live version of Echoes, pick the one from David Gilmour - Remember That Night. That's the best one, despite what others will try to tell you :)

    • @Pulsar77
      @Pulsar77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was waiting for that reply :) Of course I've seen Pompeii. It's good, but it's a very stripped-down version, and it's split in two. On the 2006 tour (and in particular on Remember That Night), David & Rick turn it into a full rock song, with an amazing climax, followed by a very emotional musical conversation between David & Rick. I absolutely prefer that one.

    • @jdawg25

    • @Pulsar77
      @Pulsar77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pink Floyd and Radiohead.... you seem to have honed in on two of the best!! i have *literally* had to stop trying to listen to either Pink Floyd or Radiohead when i am driving.... because i sort of go all 'autistic' or something (NO OFFENSE)..... and i can NOT pay attention to the road AT ALL... i actually dont even like other people being around when i listen to either band.... because i will just end up ignoring them and staring at the wall lost in the music.

    pink Floyd‘s only number one hit in the charts and it was banned in England because of their stupid misinterpretation of the meeting which was not to disparage education but rather bad education which Roger experienced himself

    Unbelievably, there's almost no good live footage of their shows from 70s to 1981... This video combines an almost decent live footage with the official audio of live album "Is there anybody out there?", which includes the entire The Wall live show 1980-1981 👍

    In your research, you'll know this hit no.1 in the singles chart back in the day. Ironic thing was that PF had their biggest hit while the Sex Pistols were breaking up. Johnny Rotten famously wore an 'I hate Pink Floyd' T shirt. Floyd carried on while the Pistols sank....Gilmour's guitar solo in this track turned me on to PF. I was aware of them since older boys at school had the DSOM prism cover painted on rucksacks everyone had (it was cool to paint the back flap!). I heard Gilmour for the first time and...wow...had the same reaction as you!.

    I'll just add my two cents in the ongoing debate about Echoes. First, i suggest watching them all. : ) But I would start with the Live at Pompeii for the simple reason that it would be the truest representation of the band. The way one would have seen them for the first 15 years of their career. Just 4 guys on stage playing some amazingly original music. From there, knock yourself out! There's so much more for you to discover!

    ok heres the deal, waters and Gilmore split up and are doing separate shows, and there seems to be a little bit of "my show is bigger than your show " going on but I found this kinda by accident, its pretty short, but fasten your seatbelt and grab on to something, you've been warned, its the intro to roger waters show, th-cam.com/video/Jvl0MDXH96M/w-d-xo.html I must say I don't care for his political views, he seems naive, and david is to laid back to be bothered with politics. watch the interviews, its about the music with him, hes very comfortable with himself........let me know..........

    The best concert footage of the full show is from Roger Waters' 2012 tour of "The Wall" full concert is at th-cam.com/video/OKxt-fOCB1s/w-d-xo.html It was recorded by multiple fans over 4 nights in Chicago and put together with all the best video and sound quality that each may have had. You are sadly mistaken about this concert being an early one, it's near the end of the four man , original line-up. You must fimd the Truly early concerts for Dark Side & Wish tours. That was peak Floyd !

      @garryiglesias4074 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "peak Floyd" hahaha... Although I agree... I tolerate the following albums, but my "pleasure" is from the beginning up to the Wall... Final cut is... good but not so much Floyd anymore, and after that they are "just" good musicians playing hits, or producing "FM music"... Nothing really catches the "peak Floyd" as you wrote :).

    • @psychedelicpiper999
      @psychedelicpiper999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm only starting to check them out now, and while I agree ablut them being amazing, the stuff before "Dark Side" was still very incredible. I actually prefer "Echoes" live before 1974, because then they forced saxophone on it, and tried to turn it into something it was not. (Dick Parry was amazing, but it's just not the style for "Echoes".) I mean, haven't you seen Live at Pompeii?
      The Syd Barrett era live was pretty killer, too, at least where Syd Barrett and Rick Wright were concerned, as they were the best musicians in the band at the time. "London '66-'67" is one of my favorite releases, and there's killer riffs on the Stockholm show, too. Unfortunately, there's little recordings of the UFO Club days, and those were supposedly the best shows the Syd Barrett era ever played. The snippets that do exist sound incredible.

    • @garryiglesias4074
      @garryiglesias4074 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      PF is a band with several eras... I love the first eras, but the "post Wall" era is less interesting for me.
      As much as I love David and his fantastic solos WITH Pink Floyd, on his lead/solo career, music tends to become too much "easy listening" for me. Nice, talented, but missing the salt of the rest of the band, including Waters, who as bad as he can/might be on an ego level, gives more depth with the lyrics and some more "raw" side to the music.

    • @yodasippin1317

    • @yodasippin1317
      @yodasippin1317 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garryiglesias4074 It was the natural progression of the band tho...If they continued on with Roger's style it would have gotten stale af...The Final Cut proved that...It was so monotone, and depressing that it was a chore to get through...It says alot that the only single released on the whole album was a David Gilmour led vocal, Not Now John...There were other good songs too, but all together it was just a sad affair
      A Momentary Lapse Of Reason isn't really that good either...It had good song just like TFC tho
      The Division Bell is AMAZING...It was the departure of form that Floyd needed to reawaken from that 2 album nap...Not a bad track on the piece...Not prime Floyd, but great in its own right
      The Endless River is just what was left of The Division Bell really...It was only released as homage to Rick, who was one more for music than lyrics...It captured his essence pefectly...It was great for what it was...Again, not prime Floyd, but it was never supposed to be...Just a farewell to an old friend who helped make Floyd what it was
