  • Learn how to configure user-scoped custom dimensions in GA4. The process looks like this:
    * First, you have to send a user property to GA4 (e.g., via Google Tag Manager)
    * Then you register it as a user-scoped custom dimension
    The data will start appearing in your Google Analytics 4 reports within the next 24 hours.
    User-scoped custom dimensions apply to all further events of that user from the moment you send it to GA4. If you send it multiple times, the latest value is applied.

    if i want to see a user property within the events tab, there was this category called Customer User when you clicked the +, is that no longer available? if not, would be just select the user property name and look at the data accordingly?

    If the pricing plan was a 50/50 randomised true/false value, would this be a suitable way to perform an A/B Test?

    Thank you for the quality content, as usual. 🙂 Do you have any info about the release date of session scope dimensions? I know Google is working on it: you can read it in the question mark right after the "Scope" field in GA4. This coming scope will be really useful too!

      That question mark has been like that for several years. So not sure when or if it's actually coming

    I am not able to see user_properties in big query, I only see user_properties for page_view after config tag but later, there is only user_id. Why is that?

    Hi Julius! Hope all is well since we last spoke. Question - I have a website that is broken down by a client's division based on location. So, 15 towns roll up into a division name that the web team has set up the data layers to push properly across all pages for a division. That being said it was recommended to me that I use the user scope vs. event scope but I wanted to confirm if possible because I don't see an example out there for this use case which I'm sure happens often.

    Is it not simplier to add pricing_plan as configuration parameter in Google Tag rather than adding with settings variable as the parameters are anyway shared with all GA4 event tags?

      What if the pricing plan changes on the page? Then your config tag will still keep using the older value of the parameter. With my suggestion, the latest value will be fetched.

    can we not add it under "User Properties" under " Shared event settings" in google tag in GTM ?

    • @AnalyticsMania
      @AnalyticsMania  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can. There are multiple ways to achieve this. But including in all event tags too is even better

    Hi Julius, my user properties will show values with event tags. However, on my configuration tag, which fires upon intiliazation, the values show as "undefined" - any idea what's going on here? I have a snippet for my data layer and it rendering comes after the GTM code in my tag.

    • @AnalyticsMania
      @AnalyticsMania  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You answered your own question.
      You fire your tag before your data layer snippet is loaded

    • @freeskierjim
      @freeskierjim 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnalyticsMania it felt that way typing it out. Broadly speaking, what is the best practice in rendering data layer? In order to fire upon initialization, I would like to render before GTM tag, but don't want to compromise anything.
