Persona 5 is not just a game, it's a whole vibe! As much as I loved P4G, and I'm eager to get my hands on P3R, I completely agree with you that the concept of Phantom Thieves may never be matched again. I feel like the characters of P5 are as close as we can get to "super heroes" while still being bound to the real world as high school students. And this provides tons of flexibility, like we've seen in the spinoffs. The satisfaction of kicking ass in action-based Strikers never gets old, and the turn-based Tactica also plays quite nice.
If anything, I'd like to see the concept of Phantom Thieves expand in a dedicated spinoff series - just like Persona itself was a spinoff of SMT. Each game would follow different protagonists, and possible be of distinct genres. Wdyt?

While I do agree with a lot of what you said, what I absolutely do not agree on is bringing Lyn back for personal 6. While I absolutely love Lyn’s voice and think she is the best vocalist yet, I feel like putting her in persona 6 would strip away a big part of persona 5’s identity, as each games music and vocalist is a big part of what makes them unique. Not to mention in any future concerts, that would leave Lyn having to balance and sing two entire mainline games worth of music compared to the others with just one or less,which would just be messy and difficult for both her and the team behind it. Lastly, I just think playing a new persona game, and getting to hear its own unique vocalist and music is one of the best parts, and it’s always hype to pick up a spin-off or crossover and recognize the vocals from that respective game, and be able to associate it with the protagonist. All in all, I just think that talus should absolutely not use Lyn for persona 6, and continue giving personas music the creativity snd identity it’s always had.
Bro with all the crazy costume designs I hope they add a similar concept to P6.
The one thing I've really had on my mind when it comes to P6, is that I think it having a sentai theme would be super cool, even if people aren't fans of Kamen Rider or Power Rangers. I think lots of people will come to like it, along with the meaning behind it's story, which will SURELY deliver.

I don't think bringing Back lyn for Persona 6 will be "good". I mean, of course she's awesome but she's also the HEART of Persona 5. and knowing Atlus, they won't use the same persona singer in two different games. (okay lotus juice is an exeptional case cuz he's here for p4 dancing for example but hey, spin offs dosn't count)
P6 will be green so i already like it (green being my favorite color, atlus clearly did this for me 🤓)

Looking forward to Atlus's New Games like Metaphor refantasio coming end of the year.
I think with more creative freedom, we could top Persona 5 with Persona 6. My feature wishlist for the next game:
- Have two or more protagonists
- Have other supporting characters change Personas
- Make every (or most) option in the game has consequences whatever the MC chose unlike P5 that several options lead to same answer.
- Bring back Reverse Social Links and even Broken Social Links, meaning that once its Broken you cannot deepen a bond with certain someone anymore/reset the bond back to Rank 1.
- Instead of one year, make it the entire high school years as a time frame.
- NO ROMANCING ADULTS, although romancing same sex is good though. Rune Factory 5 already done it.
after some thinking it feels like scramble and tactica were experiments for new game mechanics, which might be why six is taking so long, also the new one could be the mc getting therapy with friends after break-up but he's also an adult

While I do understand your grievances with P5X (trust me, I've been down the gacha rabbit hole for years now), I do think it comes with one specific advantage. It's playble for the price of FREE! Though how F2P friendly it will be remains to be seen. There are many gacha games where you can genuinely get through all content just using your favorite characters, not caring about meta, and I hope P5X ends up being like that (I quite like Closer's design so I hope she'll be strong). The biggest strength of being free to play and retaining the style of P5 is, of course, that it might even end up being a kinda "try before you buy" for P5 (you get similar themes, similar gameplay, similar style), so it might even end up convincing quite a few people who have never played P5 to pick it up.
From what I've seen, being a gacha is not always the end of the world. Although, it would not be the first time devs kill their own gacha by making getting the newest character basically mandatory. At the end of the day, they did manage to catch my interest, so I'll head in with some cautious optimism and enjoy it for what it is (whenever the global version comes out, if at all, of course).
Since we had a Ghostbuster themed team in P3, a Scooby Doo team in P4, and a Phantom Thieves team, I bet they wil go for an Superhefo themed team in P6 and the reason why supers exists because of a God wanted to turn everything into a comic book since that's what humanity wanted; a fantasy world where every supernaturals exists.

My personal issue with Persona 5 was the god boss (we don't talk about Okumura), it was annoying as all hell to fight, not hard, just annoying. I think it's a case of the Max0r quote "A boss too large to be fun" with the arms and everything.
Good video but the prejudice against china was a little weird, painting them out to be some greedy chinese corporation when it was ATLUS, a japanese company who commissioned the game wasn't really necessary. I feel like the video could've done without it since it doesn't really make any sense
Fair criticism. It definitely has to do with my biased negative opinion of Perfect World the publisher. I do still believe that it is being done out of greed, but I should have made it clear that Atlus also plays a role in the greed (given they probably want to get into the booming market that is China)

@stelanso no video on metaphor yet because I like making videos on things I've experienced and not what I think I'll like. But when it releases and I get to play it, if it's good I'll definitely make one

Personally I prefer the grounded setting of inaba so I hope 6 is more like 4 and that’s my favorite

@@ryanhatfield8602 I'd prefer 2, 3 and 5. I get some people prefer their overall vibe but I can't get over their lack of character development in the main story. Their social links are so good and rich with it but then you go back to the main story and they feel no different from when they first joined the group. 5 admittedly has this issue but to a much lesser extent as the Phantom Thieves each have their own mini arcs past the palace they appear in (ex: Ryuji overcoming his desire for attention or Makoto finding her own way in life even if it means defying those closest to her). It's no P3 but it's more than P4's main story gave imo

@@ryanhatfield8602 I don't think it's a problem for the social link characters but it's a big problem to me with the party members. Without development, your experience entirely hinges on you liking them as they are and of the 7 party members, I can only confidently say I like 2 (Naoto and Kanji)
Ngl I find it interesting people actually like p5 it’s a downgrade from the other persona games besides the graphics and music of course. My only guess on why they prefer p5 is cus it was their first persona they experienced therefore they maybe a bit biased and blinded by nostalgia or maybe they prefer graphics and style over story and character development.
i wonder how many people who call P5 the best persona game have replayed it? not saying this out of some misplaced sense of superiority, everyone is allowed to have preferences, but on my 2nd run through P5R i just found myself hating the writing more & more.. it's so inconsistent, while 4G & 3 (especially RE) have such a polished quality throughout with few lowpoints
I feel the same way. I couldn't really get connected to the characters and story when I played persona 5 compared to when I played persona 3 and 4. In persona 4 the characters actually feel like real friends that you would hang out with and cherish while in persona 5 they kind of just feel like relatively close co-workers whenever they interact. And the story for P5 kind of just felloff after the 2nd palace for me. It honestly just got really boring after that
Personally, as someone who does prefer P5 over P4 (haven't played 3 yet) it's partly because it has better gameplay.
Fights are quicker, it's easier to see enemies during fights, there's less time spent sorting through menus (game controllers have more than two buttons), more options to damage enemies, more gameplay variety in the dungeons, more places to spend your time in the world, more ways to level up your social stats, more ways to discard Personas besides fusing them, more ways to gain social link points, Persona negotiations, Baton Passes, Technical Damage, Challenge Battles, Stealth which makes "ambushing" easier (balanced by them surrounding you more easily too) you can make your own tools, can do things in your room after a day in the metaverse, hold down a button to run in both reality and the metaverse, as well as several other things I'm probably forgetting.
But apart from the gameplay, the lore and world just grabs me a lot more. It certainly uses the Personas themselves better.
Mr. Edagawa's TV classroom is great at tying Jungian Psychology into the story, but you have to close the game to even watch that. P5 does a much better job at showing how everyone's Persona connects to the character, both in the awakening scene and afterward as they use other mechanics like the classroom questions. P4 Awakenings are awesome when we see the characters accept their Shadow, but that comes at the price of the Persona reveal feeling a bit tacked on at the end. It's not as abundantly clear why each character has this specific Persona compared to literally any other, unless maybe you're already familiar with the mythological figure. Meanwhile in P5 you can tell just by looking at them why Ryuji has Captain Kidd and Ann has Carmen, and even if it's not you'll find out very soon.
Apart from that, a lot of people just find the concept of teenage gentlemen thieves stealing the hearts of corrupt adults more intriguing than teenagers solving small-town murders inside a TV. There's nothing wrong with either, it's just personal preference.
Persona 5 is basically teen rebellion the video game, which despite sounding like a silly concept is done very well. I personally found P5's themes of rebellion and controlling society very interesting. I remembering being shocked that despite the game being made and taking place in Japan, I could very easily see the political situation story taking place in my own country. (Except the part about them forming a new party, that wouldn't happen here. But the rest of it...) This is all amplified by the Protagonist being straight-up a modern day Trickster archetype. I actually took a course on the Trickster in college; it's really cool. What we learned about in class describes Joker from P5 perfectly. If you're interested, I'd recommend Lewis Hyde's essay on the Trickster.
While both P4 and P5 have their low points with the writing, I never agreed with the sentiment that the Phantom Thieves don't seem like as good friends as the Investigation Team. Maybe it seems that way because we get to see the Investigation Team being friends while they think the case is closed? Plus the Phantom Thieves don't all go to the same school, so we don't really see them together the way we do the Investigation Team. I don't think that lessens their friendship, though. In fact, when I play I constantly think about how well the characters in each game would fit in with the other, so no wonder they made PQ2.
Personally, I think Joker is a much better character than Yu, and that's really saying something when we're talking about mostly silent protagonists. I don't think Yu has anywhere near as much personality. He certainly doesn't show it early on as much as early game Joker did. Then even once he does, he's confident, smart, maybe a little sassy, not very "nice" but still good, which could be interesting if they actually went somewhere with that. But still nothing that makes me care about him the way way P5 made me instantly care about Joker. Sure, Joker's situation and the beginning is messed up enough to immediately inspire some sympathy, but it's not just that. We quickly learn he's a competent, smug, confident, show-off with a flair for dramatics, but he usually has the skills to back it up. But he also won't hesitate to protect others, even when it comes with bad consequences for himself. Even though sometimes it seems like Morgana and Makoto are the real leaders of the Phantom Thieves, I never forget Joker is there, even when I'm shouting at the screen to let him speak. Yu, on the other hand, half the time feels like a walking camera. That's fine, because everyone else's stories are more than good enough for the protagonist to just be a player insert. But P5 managed to have awesome stories for the rest of the cast while also having a great lead.
So those are some of the reasons I prefer P5. Don't know about anyone else.
Hijacking the thread, as I've said in another comment, I do agree that the story is the weakest aspect of the game. What keeps P5, at least for me, as the best in the series is everything else. Music is a huge selling point for me so its heavily carried by that. The main cast of 5 is definitely weaker compared to 4 (and mostly likely 3), but outside the main cast, P5 has some great confidants. In 4, I couldn't get myself to be invested in any character outside the party, but in 5 almost every confidant I liked for one reason or another. I have heard that 3's social links are some of the best though so I'm excited for that. The gameplay I feel is a lot better. Having a slightly more streamlined progression helps with the usually monotony of grinding that are present in JRPGs. Mementos was typically what I disliked the most in its gameplay, but it was far better than P4's Dungeons (and I'm assuming P3's Tartarus). Palaces themselves are fun to run around and explore.
Story is important don't get me wrong. It's the reason why some of the Yakuza games are my favorite. But P5's presentation is top notch from its masterclass UI and menus, to its subtler details such as the ink splashes as you roam the metaverse and most of all its over the top sequences such as ambushing enemies like spider-man and its iconic take on all-out attacks.
If either P3 or P4 take a chance at a different concept like how P5 did with the phantom thief aesthetic, the gap between the games would be a lot closer for me.
I disagree, I gave P3R a good chance. I loved the story but it's so barebones. In P5, you have so many different activities, it's like you're actually in Tokyo.

I definitely think P5 can be topped (though that stems from it maybe being my least favorite of 3-5). Splitting it simply into gameplay/style and characters/story, while p5 is very hard to top in the former, I think p3R did a good job at matching, if not surpassing it. They definitely still know how to make these games cool. For the latter, I think p5 easily had the weakest cast and story. I don't dislike them, far from, but its undeniable that outside of royal (which vastly improves p5 imo), shido was a lame villain, akechi's role is half baked (and the adopted father twist cheesy), and the cast is significantly poorer handled than in p3 (though I have come to appreciate some aspects with time, I still think they can be highly improved).
Im not trying to hate on p5, I still love these games and I think I feel the same you feel about p5 with p3. I just wouldn't set your sights so low! im excited for what p6 will bring
Story and characters I'll concede on about. There were many moments where I felt frustrated with how characters acted. Haru was robbed of her screen time. Akechi was indeed a half baked rat until they solidified it into a rat I heavily respect during the 3rd semester. But when it comes to everything else, P5 is just king. I'm not saying it can't be topped, but rather that it's going to really hard to do so. I rate music much higher than your average gamer(check out my video game music video) and although music taste is subjective, I do think objectively Persona 5 has the best track. And when it comes to presentation, it don't think even p3r stands up to it. A lot of what makes Reload look so good, stems from p5. Because you know, if it works don't fix it. But even with the newer look, p3 doesn't feel as fluid as p5. P5 much more swift, stylish animations look really cool and work really well, because they is phantom thieves are suppose to be swift and stylish. This translates further when exploring palaces. P3R improved the dungeon crawling experience by giving us a change of scenery instead of the same dull tartarus floors. But nothing beats the feeling of stealthing around and then ambushing a shadow like you're Spiderman. Alongside the specialized art style of all out attacks, a masterclass on how to make a menu and UI, and my inner child frothing at the mouth on how cool everything is, Persona 5's look and aesthetic is god-like. I still stand by liking Persona 4 cast more because Narukami Naoto and Kanji hard carry, and I'm already kneeling at getting to play through Akihiko's and Mitsuru's social links, but anything nothing more sick than the P5 cast in their phantom thief attire.

In P5 , you get to roam around Tokyo, do so many activities and sceneries, you have palaces on top of Mementos. It's such a complete package.
3 is my favorite in the series, but Persona 5 is what broke the series into the mainstream and that just can't be debated, the numbers are online to back it up, and not to mention the countless amount of content and memes about P5 you can find on TH-cam and the internet.
