San Jose urban development was NOT the reason for the decline of salmon habitat in this area. it was the silver and mercury mining in 1800s. The mining was done with water canon blasting hills away and that clogged the streams and rivers in Santa Clara valley.
Nice catch! And kudos for sticking with it and coming back in the morning. Thanks for the plug on river cleanup too, it's a great way to give back to the environment whether you donate money or take a day and help clean up our waterways.

Hey Adam that’s really cool. I remember as a kid in the late 60’s and 70’s my dad would take us fishing at the Salinas River at the train trestle. It was maybe a mile or two from the ocean inlet. We would catch Striper,Salmon,Herring and the biggest Carp you’ve ever seen. My dad was using a large daredevil spoon and hooked a big fish and as he was fighting it the hook released, shot out of the water and stuck in his temple. He left me and my brother there ( maybe 10 years old), drove himself to Fort ORD hospital. He came back and fished some more. Those were different times. Then a big flood came and ruined the river for many years. Sometimes people wait until things get really bad in our environment to do something about it.
love it - so close to businesses, and that one stretch was pretty clean. You are smart not to be there at night - I think I know the area - it is a tough area at night. It was disappointing to see that one stretch of that river with all the trash in it.
Nice fish Adam! very cool that you found that spot. Congratulations on reaching the 75K mark in subscribers. It's a testament to your character and keeping it real!
Once apon a time all the creeks that fed into the bay that held water pockets all summer, had big runs of Salmon and steelhead. Still today some of my best fishing memories. I thought all were closed to fishing many, many years ago, but appearently not. Nice job Adam.
My dad tells me stories of fishing the larenzo when he was young all the time. From what he was telling me there used to be a ton of steelies going up there and now they are lucky to see a few make through. Sad to see. Glad to see there’s a few fisherman still out there with dignity
Back in the 80's I caught a 24 lb salmon in a creek right under I-80 that went up to Green Valley in Cordelia, I thought the fish was going to jump out of the creek (the creek was only 3-4 feet wide at certain areas), also caught a 7 lb steel-head from the same creek. We used to walk and fish the small creeks in Davis, Napa, Vacaville, Fairfield for small trout for something to do......
I thought that river was a sanctuary for salmon. I remember seeing signs near the information center about the chinook being protected in some way. play at you own risk lol
So cool. When the hunt pays off! When I was a kid I'd trek through the SF Financial District with my fishing gear in tow on my way to the pier, probably looking like a dork! 😂
You would have loved the late 60s and the 70s when I fished the Eel river. Numbers like 43 steelies and 40 salmon years. It was amazing. Many salmon around 30lbs and steelies to 16 lbs. Witnessed a 63 and 50 lb salmon and witness to a 19 lb steelie. Oh the days of old. Love your videos brother
One word. Awesome! Miss fishing the Bay area. Living vicariously through your videos! Like lots of us I'm in TX now. Keep up the great videos. Your the best!

Salmon are incredibly resilient. Enough habitat restoration including removal of man made blockages, fish ladders, and release of waters from dams upstream, we will see populations rebound. This has done before.
Lol 😆 rebound? After 17,000 people have seen where they are now? This video caused alot more pressure on those fish. I see it getting worse. Not better .
Sketchy indeed...knowing where you were, I'm glad you didn't get a poke in your boot! Lots of people have only seen carp around here, so it was AWESOME seeing a salmon make it that far in!
It's very hard to get one on a lower, keep in mind that salmon in a river aren't there to feed. They are only there to spawn , that is why most are caught on row and when they do bite it is so light you can hardly notice. My family fishes in the Trinity near Weaverville CA.
Nice fish Adam! I’m not trying to be that guy here but that creek is closed this time of year for the salmon run glad you didn’t get caught. But just for next time ya know.
