this is just the kind of inspiration i was looking for! thanks!! i have been toying with the idea of using polycarbonate food pan trays for fry growout, taking inspiration from you and Dean I think i'll build a PVC board food pan rack to slide each fry pan out and in like a set of dresser drawers, driven by a dc pond pump for variable flow control and dripping back down into a 4ftx2ft flood and drain tray i am using to culture live blackworms - i'm going to put my overflows on the front to better monitor the outflow rate in case of a clog and probably use 3/8" RO tubing and quick connects with ball valves
Gunna comment as I taped to see what the vid was about. A container is a container (cuase .. aussy mindset) I put 3 30lt flat containers together to grow aquaponic seedlings... Turned out that they are great for raising fish as your vid is showing :) it has no filter, mediums or air bubbler
If you really understand what's going on, your system does have a biological filter unless you clean it before beneficial bacteria has a chance to grow. Every surface that is wet is your filter.
Hmm... I have that same shelf in my garage. I wonder if my wife would be mad if I got rid of all the towels and blankets to put one of these in. But seriously, this is an awesome setup. I'm guessing that with all that moss you don't add salt? Do you ever have problems with velvet? I'm new to this but most things I've read make it sound like velvet is a common issue.
So far I've never had a problem with velvet. I don't add any salt either. However if I decided to add salt it would never be in a high enough concentration to affect the plants for algae.
I’m new to all this fish thing but interested in how this kind of stuff is done in shops, all you have done is swap glass tanks for plastic tanks. So am I right in thinking, you have a pond pump, pumping water into the tanks, which then over flow and the cycle start again? How would you add heat to all this if needed? How do you decide on the flow of water to the plastic tanks? Suppose you could use the main bottom tank to grow plants?
@@pyleaquatics I’ve had a look online, eBay and Amazon, in the U.K. I can’t find a box that long, I don’t even know where to start looking for the pipe connections. This is a great set up.
@dans.channel. Here you go. This is the one I used. www.lowes.com/pd/Project-Source-Large-13-Gallons-52-Quart-Clear-White-Underbed-Tote-with-Latching-Lid/5013948519
@@pyleaquatics how long have you used this set up? I wasn't sure bout the PP rating of 5 on these...thought 5 wasn't the best for food grade stuff...which I see fish as similar needs?
Awesome setup I am totally going to steal your idea. Is your light enough for the moss and do the fry enjoy more of the darker light? How much did it cost you to set up? How is your success rate with your fry?
I am growing some moss in the tubs. You could put a light behind it to help if needed in your setup. I haven't added up the cost. My fry success is much better than it used to be by just changing water every day in each tub. The growth rate is really good. It's easier to make sure there is always food available without worrying about food rotting and fouling up the water.
What types of fry do you grow in your system? The water change system would save a ton of time. What do you feed your fry? Is there a variety of food you feed?
@@davidcampbell4050 I have grown out a few species of Nothobranchius and a severe axolotl. My success rate is far better than it was. I feed infusoria, vinegar eels, mico worms, and baby brine shrimp. They are also feed some processed fry food if I'm in a hurry.
I love using algae with my fry too! I find it hides them very well and holds an incredible amount of microorganisms.
Cool setup👍 it’s like a wet sand box you can play in 😄
That is an amazing set up. You did a great job. Awesome idea.
Genius ,modulare and scalable ! All of this with the small pump ,thanks to the valve
Thanks for showing us this, and also for going into detail. Nice work.
Brilliant. Simple clean cheap

I would love to see what you come up with! I hope it's even better than what I have done!
Wish I had room for this. Nicely done!
Brilliant idea. I'm thinking of something similar, but something that will easily allow me to incubate eggs with clear oxygenated water
Looks interesting. I may try it out
Nice job!

Hey I recognize you from the LRB chat. Good stuff you got another subscriber.
Awesome! Thanks!
Hope to see your CPD breeding setup soon.
Inspiring
I like the set-up!!! Looks like it works real well. Sub #60 Checking in!!
Brilliant video was looking for something like this 😀 🎉
Looking great sir! If you decide to modify it keep us updated ❤😊
can you put links for the values and tubing? Thanks very much.
nice i like it. i would also prob rais something under it as well haha.
I definitely thought about that. The only problem is getting it back out from under there.

Some of that is answered in the video. Heating would be easy. You just stick a heater in the bottom sump.

@Mrsboncouer around 18 months. There are no signs of any problems.
Like the setup. I would change the tubing from clear to black. You won't have algae build up in the line.
What temperature is this fish room? Is this breeder setup heated?
It's not heated. The room is between 72 and 80. With 75 being the norm.
where do you get the decomposed granit from
I get it from Home Depot and Lowes.
Simple but effective system. Are you running a uv light?
No.

Thanks this was very informative
It’s cold and under the bed box because it’s made the slide underneath of your bed
Untill you see Philippines breeders
Show me, I would love to see it!
you could use plastic coated wire shelving...
