During the Gagliarda, at 8:08, and continuing until 9:12, Respighi inserts a melody straight out of the "Spagnoletta" of the Praetorious "Terpsichore Dances". What's THAT about?

Late reply, but you do know what Respighi's Ancient Dances and Airs are about, right? Transcriptions of older pieces written for the lute.
