I love hearing what your daughter “very likes” about the outfits 😂. I keep trying to tell myself I don’t need Lila, but she’s so pretty, I think she’ll end up joining the doll fam eventually.
Hehehe I keep trying to correct her but it’s kinda cute tbh 😅 I had to cut her segments a bit short because she would start talking about her gymnastics and including personally identifying details. She’s going to be so excited to hear her voice on the tv when I show her the video today. Luckily Lila should be around for a while so you have time to decide 🥰
Lila is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about her I purchased most of her collection. To be honest you mentioned about her freckles are a little shiny and I was so shocked because my Lila doll freckles are the complete opposite, they are pretty matte I love her hair so much. Thank you for sharing your awesome video.
Thank you! I need to include her more especially because she’s my biggest supporter and watches all of my videos. The voiceover parts were a bit hard with her because she struggled to stay on topic but it was so fun and special to do with her. I love that you include your daughter too! ❤️
Thank you for the comparisons! I wanted to compare Lila to my girls and you saved me the work. The GOTY feature comparisons was a great add to your video! You’re daughter is so precious!
Aww thank you! I’m so glad the comparison was helpful. It’s something I love to see personally but I can get a bit nerdy about AG, as you can probably see 😅❤️
Since we went to the "release" event and Grace bought Lila, I don't plan on watching a ton of unboxing or review videos about her, but I knew I would watch yours no matter what. Your review videos are substantive and analytical and I so appreciate that! I didn't realize Lila's hair has such a marked striped pattern in her highlights (Grace hasn't taken her hair down yet) and I don't love that about a lot of the new TMs so I'm not a fan. @11:40 you really get to see the shiny freckles. And I completely agree about that shine being annoying. I messed around with the first CYO I created and unexpectedly learned that by taking nail polish remover to them just briefly the shine came off and they turned a bit darker. I kinda hate that riding outfit but I won it at the release event so we own it and that's fine lol. I agree - this one's for the kids! And I'm not mad. They gave me the Shimmering Silver doll, so this horse-loving, tumbling, pink-clad girl can delight the kiddos she was made for ;-) Thanks for the video and it was great to see how you incorporated your daughter but protected her privacy - I very liked that ;-)
Thank you Kristie - it means a lot that you took the time to watch ❤️ I very like your comments, they always make me smile! I'm a pretty analytical person so I'm glad to see that others are entertained by my geeky side instead of just annoyed by it ;) I'm slightly tempted to take some nail polish remover to one of Lila's freckles now.. just to test so I don't ruin her inadvertently. It would be nice if that was all it took to fix it.
@@EvelynRoseAG Ooh, if you do, let me know. I'd love to know if that was a fluke, but I suspect it wasn't a one-off. It was probably just that nail polish removed the shiny coating.
Thanks for the Nicki comparison! I love your daughter's comments on the outfits ☺️ I personally think Lila is very sweet, she may join my collection eventually. I do wish we could have an Addy mold or even Claudie mold GOTY with dark skin! Maybe next year 🤞
Legit want Lila more now....❤ Also adore your reviews as usual. The attention to detail is perfect and your daughters added opinions made me smile 😊 "I very like..." it warmed my heart to hear what she liked! Also I agree. Haha I guess I'm a little kid with my taste. I love all the pink and glitter and I love those riding shoes.... but that jacket is my absolute favorite. I want one of my own I also love when you have the graphs and stuff. That is such a visual learner staple and I appreciate your efforts! I've told you before I've got some stuff like this on my computer and notebook. I love the details. But it does sadden me we don't have more DOC. It's a tragedy. I'm sure I'll end up getting some of the face molds I'm missing before 2025 goty but I still hope the next one is a DOC
Thanks Kaley!! 💕Yes the jacket is amazing.. I love pink and glitter too but I’m more of a soft pink fan (like the current Something Navy holiday collab). I’m glad you enjoy the graphs as much as I do. I hope to do more in depth ones and create them for the other doll lines as well. AG has certainly gotten better at releasing DOC since we were kids but the marketing department needs to catch up and promote them with the same force as say Nicki and Isabel.
OK, I had to comment again because I didn't wait until the end and your updated graphic warrants a comment all on its own. I LOVE that you do this. And you pointing out that this doll has each of the most commonly-used features is scientific validation for what my gut already knew. Please keep sharing this info about the skin color preference AG repeatedly displays. Because of racism, ppl want to downplay that or dismiss others' concerns as "wokeness" (like it's an insult), but the numbers you've compiled don't lie. Thank you for doing this.
Yes! You know, I will happily be called "woke" all day if it means that I am aware and mindful of the struggles that other people face, and how the things I say may make them feel. Inclusivity is a choice, and while I am glad to see American Girl making efforts to be more inclusive (for example, releasing holiday outfits from various cultures), it's evident that they put profit over inclusivity when it comes to the GOTY line especially. The facts don't lie. I have a lot more to say on this topic, and a lot more infographic style facts to share in upcoming videos.
It's very sad to see that graphic, but you did an amazing job on it. I keep hoping to see another black girl of the year that they actually put love and effort into.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VIDEO! Thank you for your hard work to produce this review of Lila! All the comparisons, comments and opinions were right on!👍The statical graph was really well done too, and greatly helped me to understand! ( I'm a visual learner) THANK YOU!😊
One thing that I have noticed is the freckles are shiny when you first get them. I love that Lila's outfits seem to have good materials such as the fuzzy pants in her meet outfit. I also like how you included your daughter who is around the target age. I personally will be getting Lila and her accessories. I also plan on using the leotards as body suits.
I love Lila, and I probably will end up getting her at some point, but my plan is to focus on getting what I want from Kavi's collection before they retire. I love my girl and I really want to focus on her for the rest of the year, even though I'm excited for Lila. Right now I only have her and her meet so I have a long way to go
I love the idea of finishing up Kavi’s collection before getting Lila. I’ve gotten all I want from her collection, and for now Lila’s. I’ll focus on my historical collections next 🥰
Evelyn, I love Lila! The fact they brought back McKenna Brooks to be her gymnastics coach and babysitter absolutely touched my heart! I have Blaire at home but I really want Lila, Isabel, Nicki, and Maryellen. I really wish that Lila, Isabel and Nicki, and Blaire would get American Girl movies, but sadly they discontinued them.
Thanks for the comparisons and the clear view of Lila's eyes! I have Blaire, and as you said they do look quite different. I have been disappointed with the last few dolls I have bought though, so I am reluctant to buy another one. Nicki Hoffman has hair that is very uneven/choppy. I am not a fan of Isabel, and regret buying her. She doesn't look nice with any other doll in my collection, except her sister. I bought 118 and she is very pretty, but she looks different and "out of place" when put side by side with my others (Molly, Maryellen, and Blaire). I set her aside to be a big sister for Willa the Welliewisher. Most recently I bought a CYO, and I am very disappointed with her. Her hair is very short, even though she was supposed to have long hair. Also, her "Light Blue" eyes were not the pretty light blue I have seen on other dolls. I like the look of Lila from these videos, but hope I wouldn't regret purchasing her too.
Thank you for the kind comment! I'm sorry you've been disappointed with your last few dolls. It sounds like you might prefer the more classic look of the American Girl dolls rather than the newer dolls that have been released. Do you think that perhaps removing the lashes on the dolls would help? And yes.. American Girl DID change the "light blue" eyes, and what frustrates me the most about it is that their stock photos still show the OLD version of the blue. For example, my truly me 116 that I customized into River (the doll in my profile picture), clearly has very light blue eyes on the website's photos, but they are a much darker blue in person (like Nicki). I also think the FAO Schwarz collector doll looks much better with the lighter eyes in the stock photo. Such a shame. The light blue eyes are much more common than the dark color.
Amazing job on this nice and detailed review. After this review I now want Lila even more. I love that her wig is nice and full as well as her unique freckle pattern. Her meet clothes have grown on me quite a bit and I actually kind of dig them now. However I probably won't be buying her soon because I currently don't have the space or money to buy her. I would also feel a bit bad buying this doll and not Kavi, considering Kavi has been another doll that is on my wishlist. It was also fun that you featured your daughter. She is so cute!
Thank you!! I’m so glad this review was helpful and thanks for the sweet comment about my little girl. You have plenty of time to get Lila for sure, so I would definitely recommend getting Kavi first if you want her. Kavi is a much more unique doll overall and soo photogenic 😉
This was wonderful! I loved all of your daughter's comments. She is adorable! All of the comparison pictures between dolls with similar skin tones, eye colors, hair colors, etc was very helpful. Thank you! I also love it when you show graphs comparing all of these aspects. I completely agree that we need more dark-skinned girls with different face molds. But I will add that, of those light and medium skin-colored dolls, I believe 6 are still considered Dolls of Color, as they are Asian, Latina or Middle Eastern: Marisol, Jess, Kanani, Luciana, Corinne, Kavi. I know that's still the minority, with only 7 out of 22. I guess you could add Sonali in there too, but I don't think you included Sonali and Gwen in your stats. But, again, I do agree that AG can do better. Especially when they told us when World By Us was released that this was "just the beginning" and then never did add to that line at all.
Thanks Beth ❤️ I personally love the doll comparisons so I’m happy to be able to provide those on my channel. That’s correct, I didn’t include Gwen and Sonali in the stats since they were more of an “accessory” for Chrissa, although of course Sonali was one of the best releases in the GOTY line. I loved that face mold so much before they changed it. I wasn’t back into collecting when the WBU line was released so I didn’t realize they marketed it like that. I sure hope there actually is more to come from that line!
@@EvelynRoseAG I loved the original Sonali face mold too. I hope there is more WBU to come too, but the longer we go without any new releases, the more I wonder if they cancelled those plans.
I agree that AG needs to do better concerning dolls of color! Thanks for all this info about face molds, just learning about them. You & your daughter did a great review! She sounds adorable. My granddaughter is 13 yrs old, no more cute little voice 😂. She is still cute to me even with her voice change 😊 I did buy Claudie so I may buy Lila soon. I don't own any dolls with this mold.
Thank you, Sandy! I’m so glad you have a granddaughter to enjoy.. what a blessing. Claudie is one of my favorite dolls of all time and my favorite historical right now. The Josefina mold is beautiful so I would highly recommend it!
I loved the comparisons you did with Lila and the other dolls. I agree I’m not a fan of the “shiny” freckles and face paint either. The quality could be better there. Also your daughters voice is so cute and that’s awesome that you can share this love for dolls with her. 😊
Thank you so much for this amazing in depth review! You saved me $125 lol. I thought about getting her but the blonde, brown, and red hair all together is a little weird to me 😅 I’ll be getting Isabel instead 💜
Aww, I’m so glad this was helpful! Her hair is definitely different. I think you’ll love Isabel! She’s one of my favorite dolls, and I even like the bright green eyes.
Lila is a cute doll. However, I have Evette and I think she and Lila are just way too similar to justify me getting Lila. Evette's hair makes her unique and she was the first one to have that freckle pattern, iirc. So I'll just be content and enjoy my Evette. But thanks so much for doing the comparisons. That was helpful.
@@EvelynRoseAG I'm glad your daughter is enjoying Lila. It's great that she has a doll she can relate to. But at the end when you brought up the graph it was really eye opening and I think more people should see your video to get a good idea of what's happening. That's another reason why I just favor Evette. I know Evette isn't a GOTY but she is non-white and sometimes I feel like people complain that there isn't enough diversity at AG but then they seem to really gravitate more toward the white dolls. Not everyone obviously but clearly some people have expressed that they thought Evette's hair was "scary" and "hard to manage" (ironic considering Lila has a face similar to Evette, but also her gimmick is "hair play") Well I got Evette partially because I related to her character, but also her hair texture/curls are very similar to mine. Obviously I don't expect people to buy non-white dolls out of obligation (that would be insincere and I'd rather have people get dolls they enjoy) but it's just something to think about. And they really do use the Josefina mold WAY too much. It almost feels like the new classic mold in some ways. I think AG was playing it safe. Lila is cute but just not terribly unique to me.
You’re so right Amber, and I’m glad AG has finally released a hair texture similar to yours. I’m sure a synthetic version was hard to get right, but it is important that they did. I favor Evette too because of her unique hair and stunning feature combination. I agree that people should buy dolls they like, but of course, if they are predominantly gravitating toward white dolls, it might be worth examining why that is.
@@EvelynRoseAG Yeah. I just get tired of hearing the complaints but their own collections don't really reflect that rhetoric. As for Evette, it can be disheartening to constantly hear about how hard her curls are to care for. That's just how curly hair is. It requires a different kind of attention. But I also get that the earlier Evette's had bad quality wigs. But there are ways to care for the hair and tutorials so...if Evette's hair is what's keeping people from getting her that's just sad to me.
It is sad to me too. You said it perfectly - it just requires a different kind of attention. I don't think people realize how harmful their words are, even when they are just speaking about dolls. I'm sure your hair is beautiful, as is Evette's ❤️
I think the book is better for younger kids who get the doll bc it’s easier to read and probably more interesting bc kids like pictures in books! Also I think girls will really like her outfit bc to me it looms “preppy” and many girls now love that style so I think I was a good choice for meet outfit I love her gymnastics things too I will definitely get all of it exept the bar bc it’s way to expensive lol 😆 her horse things are cute but not for me.
It depends on the curls. If they are loose like Lila’s, I recommend wetting the hair with a spray bottle and then brushing with a wire wig brush. From there, you can take one section at a time about the same size of the curl you want and, spritz with water, and then use your finger to curl to the left by wrapping it around your finger. Kind of like your finger is a curling iron. For tighter curls, I recommend watching “How to Care for American Girl Doll Claudie’s Hair!!!” by the Doll Studio by Kris. He is a hair stylist and knows what he is doing, as he also used to work at the AG hair salon.
You can remove my comment if you want but as a persona of color I see no reason to be up set that Lila is white. Out of the past 8 gotys 4 have been doc! 60% of the US population is white so the representation is pretty accurate! Having doc gotys is awesome but I can not understand people who complain about getting a white goty after getting two gotys of color in a row.
The problem with this is the assumption that you’re either white OR other (POC). I think it’s valid to want other races represented. I am white and my daughter looks like Lila so we think it’s fun that the GOTY looks like her. And I would love for every little kid to get to experience that.
Hi friends - I wanted to put a comment out here to say that I have removed and will continue to remove any comments of those upset about people “complaining” about Lila being white. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed ❤️ her voice is pretty cute isn’t it 🥰 she makes doll collecting even more fun!
Fantastic review, as always!
Thank you so much ❤ I appreciate you watching and leaving a kind comment.
Libraries are finding graphic novels being requested more and more in books. I do believe these may get more actual reading in the target age.
That is so interesting, and I’m not surprised at all. I’m hopeful that the new format does end up encouraging the kids to read.
Will you be getting the 2024 Pink Stardust Holiday doll? I would love to see a comparison between her and Lila ❤️
I've been bitten by the American Girl bug. Uh oh. 😮😊
Uh oh for your wallet but welcome to one of the most amazing communities ever!! ❤️❤️
I’m so glad it was helpful! They are very similar dolls, and if I had to choose one it would definitely be Evette. She’s such a stunning doll!
I love gymnastics
Me too! It’s so fun to watch.
Also I’m wondering how do I care for curlyish haired dolls like can I still brush the hair like straight haired dolls?
That’s a great point! I’m sure she’s already selling well.
Ok thank you because I’m probably going to get Lila and I’ve never had a doll with curls
Lila’s hair should be more than manageable for you. It’s a great wig.
