Thank you for doing it so many times. Every other channel does it so fast and only once, so you can’t see what they are even doing. You’re video will save me a lot of self tied flies. Thank you sir.
Thanks for an easy to follow guide to whipping. I am just starting to tie fly and the whipping was something I really wanted to be confident with but was having a lot of trouble with. Your no fuss explanation has given me a load of confidence. Thanks again.
As with the earlier comments, this is the best hand whip finish video on YT! I was doubtful at first, with the view being from the 'back', but the way you described the technique put paid to any doubts. Thanks for sharing this!
Cant thank you enough. I have just spent many many frustrating hours trying to whip finish, Gave up trying with the tool while watching videos. Nearly gave up by hand as well until I saw yours. Am SO grateful. My fly fishing nearly stopped before it got started but thanks to you I can move on to trying to tie a fly!! Happy New Year!
awesome. .thanks for making it look simple. . this was one of the best how to videos I've ever seen. . you showed us how several times which was perfect. some times showing someone once kinda sucks .i hate replaying videos 100 times to make sure i seen it all right. you kept doing it over and over and was really sweet. ..thanks a million. this way looks 100 times easier and faster then to keep grabbing another tool. ..
Thanks for a great instruction video. Just starting out so have been practicing very basic techniques. Watched a lot of youtube videos and this one was the one that I was able to learn hand whip finish from.
only after watching your video was I able to do a whip finish. I can't use the tool, was only able to tie off with half hitches. many thanks sir for teaching me.
Very helpful. I am in the beginning stages of fly tying. I bent a paper clip and mounted it in my vise and used regular sewing thread for practice. Sewing thread is heavy, easy to see, and doesn't break easily.
bro thanks Ive been trying this stupid whip tools for days with no luck of even understanding its functions lol... watched multiple vids on whip tying with no luck till ur video!!! great technique my friend way easier than others Ive been trying.. ur video gives a good idea what a whip knot is suppose to be ReSpeCt Rasta :)
(laughing) ... they irritate me too ... as a kid, I learned to tie using hackle pliers to keep a tiny amount of tension on the thread and I finished all of my flies with about 4 or 5 half-hitches ... then as about a 14 year old, I saw a hand-whip-finish done at one of the meetings of the San Jose Flycasters Club that I belonged to, by a gentleman named John Adams (who tied beautiful "Catskill" style flies), and I was amazed ... to this day, the whip finish tool gets zero use at my fly tying desk and all of my flies are whip-finished by hand ...
l love this hand job LOL No, l have practiced a bit with the whip tool. and practicing half hitches. And frankly. l do better with my hands and for me it's one less tool to have to use. I was told by an experienced tier, keep it simple
Very good detail, but you are not doing it from my view your vice is for a right handed person -- okay, but the camera is not from over your shoulder, so to speak.
Thank you for doing it so many times. Every other channel does it so fast and only once, so you can’t see what they are even doing. You’re video will save me a lot of self tied flies. Thank you sir.
A life saver. After watching your video i got it immediately. Thanks a million

Your welcome and I am glad to have helped.
thanks man, this made it simple. and i like the intro music :)
I had a whip finisher ,HAD!!!! after tangling coming undone and getting super frustrated it went over my shoulder to the other end of the shop.
(laughing) ... they irritate me too ... as a kid, I learned to tie using hackle pliers to keep a tiny amount of tension on the thread and I finished all of my flies with about 4 or 5 half-hitches ... then as about a 14 year old, I saw a hand-whip-finish done at one of the meetings of the San Jose Flycasters Club that I belonged to, by a gentleman named John Adams (who tied beautiful "Catskill" style flies), and I was amazed ... to this day, the whip finish tool gets zero use at my fly tying desk and all of my flies are whip-finished by hand ...
well months later and after moving and cleaning up my shop I found it and slowly calmly tried again ,a lot better
You made it look so easy even my stoned ass understood it.
Great lesson...thank you!
THANK YOU just threw my whip finish tool in the trash
Best one, thanks man!
So where did you go?
My problem is the camera is on the wrong side........hard to see in in reverse in my mind....
Sorry about that.

If your hands are dry and fingers cracked, you will snag the thread. That's about the only problem I've ever had with this method.
Viola Lee!
What is this?
Creating a series of half hitches to finish a fly off used to create the illusion of hatching insects.
so its like twisting a rubber band eh
Nice "how to".
I just don´t fucking get it!!!! This is the 4th video on this knot and i just don´t get it :(
Very good detail, but you are not doing it from my view your vice is for a right handed person -- okay, but the camera is not from over your shoulder, so to speak.
