I/ve watched upwards of 8-10 instructional videos on this song, some by very well-known TH-cam guitar instructors/players. Most merely mention the strumming pattern(s). Only one other stressed the importance of timing. James' took it to another level with a very clear step-by-step explanation. Superb!
I am glad I finally got around to learning this song, after about 4 or 5 practice sessions I realized this is easier than I thought, the instruction is spot on. Thanks James, --(its hard to believe this song will be 50 yrs old in 2025 !)
Great lesson and SO helpful on the strumming pattern. I’m learning ukulele so the chord shapes are different but I can still follow along for the strumming and play the uke version of the chords.
Okay, lyrics are easy to memorize. why do I have serious issues memorizing the chord progression? It keeps switching on the verse, it's not like a standard 4/4 rock song and the timing is freaking weird. Or am I just dumb?
Here to say you're not dumb but could use a little memory trick to make your fingers do the right thing at the right time. Fingers have memory too, it takes a lot of practice and time. Practice the sections separately and repeatedly.
