A thing to keep in mind with Tendou for future episodes is that the author of Haikyuu, Furudate Haruichi, got his start at Shonen Jump with a psychological thriller series. Occasionally he likes to let his love of the horror genre come out in moments like the scene where they mistook Nishinoya for a ghost child at the training camp. So be on the lookout for that style in the future.
suga being the first person to cause one of the refs to open their eyes killed me i loved noya calling his shot with how many spikes he needs to adjust, he's cold blooded i mean if anyone can toot their own horn in volleyball... BRING IT. BRING IT. BRING IT. BRING IT TO ME. the creator of Haikyuu has some experience writing horror manga, and a lot of Tendou's design is inspired by that. you will definitely find out about our miracle boy as the season goes on i like the lion king comparison, i think noya and tanaka would make a great timon and pumba sarah completely in the tank for 2/6 shiritorizawa players so far smdh so excited for the next ep, and the Q&A!
Am I wrong to initially have that impression of those players though?? They are not immediately likable. Tendou is CREEPY so I'm definitely seeing the horror inspiration coming in there. 😂 at the Timon and Pumba reference... you are so right!!
It feels like in Haikyuu that every team has a cool captain and then one unique attention-grabbing teammate. This time round it's Ushiwaka and Tendo, last time it was Oikawa and Mad Dog; it's a well-made simple system to keep things interesting and I love it.
Lefty are very rare in Japan because they are getting "corrected" and turned into righty very young, especially in the very traditional countryside. This tradition is dying since 20 years, but it still exist. Hence why lefty are rare in Japan and so in here (Miyagi prefecture) in Haikyuu.
"I hope I don't come across as tooting my own horn." What? An Olympic level athlete saying she is good at volleyball? How dare you. (Just kidding. That you compare a character in the show to yourself really says a lot about how good this show is in character portrayal. Love your reactions)
i really love how they have painted ushiwaka as the everest of volleyball. like he can serve, he can hit, he can receive, he can block, he can score. he can do it all. it really paints the picture of someone who was selected for a youth national team and why he was at that. most certainly a giant obstacle that needs to be figured out.
Great to see her enjoying & getting excited about this match so much. Leaving my support & personal opinions about the iffy translations as usual. 6:54 「サーブレシーブには参加せず」➔ "They don't serve or receive". This is obviously a mistranslation. It should be "Without participating in serve-receives". 14:02「ウチの弟はねぇ、ガッカリする程冷静なんです」➔ "You see, with my brother, the more he feels let down, the calmer he gets". A more literal translation would bed be more like "You see, with my younger brother, he's calm to the degree that (you/people) would feel disappointed". They got the pronoun for the one who might be feeling "let down". Akiteru is saying that Kei is so extremely calm to the point of even being boring/disappointing, not that Kei himself becomes calmer the more he gets depressed. 26:00「直接点になっていない攻撃も、後々、必ず効いてくる」➔"He'll eventually start to feel even the attacks that he's not making himself". This one's not as clear-cut, but this could be another case of mistaken pronouns. The wording in「点になっていない(not leading to a point)」instead of 「点に関わっていない(not involved in getting a point)」&「効いてくる(cause an effect on)」instead of 「影響してくる(to be affected)」makes it more logical to have it be more like "Even the attacks *we're* making that don't lead directly to points will, later on, start to affect him".
Tendou is a joke character that starts out as one that’s there for a laugh but develops into one of the most human an fun characters in the series he is the fan favourite on that team I’m pretty sure. At least he is my favourite
No matter how many times I've watched this season, I always forget how much of a monster Ushijima is. He was touted as one of the best in the country and he sure shows it here. Just physically gonna overpower most of the competition.
As a fellow lefty, thank you for the lefty love❤️ Edit: Abt the synchro attack btw, this match takes place in 2011 according to the Haikyuu timeline, so back then it was probably pretty rare for Japanese high school teams to be doing synchro attacks. With how much the sport evolves and levels up, nowadays the synchro is definitely standard
Don't know if you're interested, but since you are a fan of the "Fly High" opening (like I am), you should check out the "Spring Version" at some point. For context, Spring is the Japanese season for graduations, thus why this version of the song sounds like something one might hear at a graduation. It's quite beautiful and moving, in my opinion.
Lefty opposites are definitely insane. My doubles partner is my lefty opposite from back in high-school, and I love it because if I ever give him a tight pass he can just swing on it with the option. Also, Tendo's ending scene was so good. "If you wanna beat Ushiwaka, you're going to have to beat me first". I have a feeling your season 3 line up might end up changing a bit
Her comparing Tendo to the hyenas from lion king is soooo perfect it suits him soo well not random at all you got it spot on!!! he is a menace an he is dangerous but he is also laid back goofy and funny a complete oddball
as a fellow LEFTY! LETS GO!!! I cannot help but chuckle at the fact that at the time that this show was being written, Japan's National Volleyball team has always had a big left opposite the past decade or so. From Shimizu and now to Nishida (who both wear #1) just like Ushiwaka here. Sometimes, this show and it's sense of timing is just incredible.
I always wonder who did things first: Japanese National Players or Haikyuu characters. Like !!!!MANGA SPOILERS!!! fake spike on the second touch turned to set. Being dubbed "killer servers" since, I think, Yanagida. Ridiculously high jumps of Nishida. Or Japanese players venturing out to play in Europe. Hell, Ushiwaka is playing in Poland in this year's bonus chapter, and you know what? Kento Miyaura, a lefty from the Japanese national team moved to Polish PlusLiga starting this season. It's so hilarious when you think of it. Furudate inspired many kids to pick up volleyball (I saw graphs about it somewhere) so you can say they are responsible in part for creating real-life Monster Generation.
I don't know if you remember, but the Shiratorizawa team is like the Korean pro volleyball team. They focus on one player who has an outstanding physique and let that player do all the attacks. So Ushiwaka is like the foreign player that the Korean pro volleyball teams hire.
I’ve rewatched this show a few times and read the manga. Your commentary is super in depth with a touch of entertainment. It’s cool how you pause to comment but sometimes I just want to hear you run commentary while the boys are playing, like if you were really there.
The thing I love most about this episode, is that tsukki is constantly commentating the defense and the opponent's offense. What I mean by that is he's at this point in the game recognizing with the importance of doing recognizing what they're doing and it's going to be great when she finally makes that adjustment
Hey Sarah! Just want to say thank you to your Haikyuu reaction series...your reaction is so sincere and lovely that gives me so much fun and makes me rethink a lot on Haikyuu also on myself. I'm really your fan now!
They do indeed give backstories on Ushiwaka and Tendo as well as a little bit on Shirabu (setter) in this season. IMO, Tendo is the far more interesting character which makes his relationship with Ushiwaka even more interesting. Tendo also gives one of the best lines in all of Haikyuu. Speaking of songs, the overarching theme song for this season is titled "The Battle of Concepts" and is played throughout the match/sets/plays. In a series that is well-regarded for it's music, this is a standout. I know Sarah loves Nishinoya, but on a team like Kurasuno where it's heavily attack focused, I feel like he gets lost sometimes. When Coach Ukai says Nishinoya and Kageyama are playing as usual, he is basically saying that Nishinoya is a genius-level player on par with Kageyama. No other team that we have seen so far can say they have TWO genius-level players in their roster. Finally, just a little teaser to get Sarah excited about the few upcoming episodes. S3E3 shows us Tendo's "specialty" which is in stark contrast to a Karasuno player. S3Ep4 is considered to have one of the top5 moments in all of Haikyuu and is the peak of a journey that starts from almost the very beginning. S3E5 really makes it clear the difference in the teams AND individual players' philosophies, the difference in concepts if you will. S3E6 shows just how awesome Karasuno's 3rd years are.

I did have to make the switch to contacts before playing her again though.
As a lefty, you cannot fathom how amazed and happy I was when I saw that, Ushijima, a powerful and amazing opponent who everyone makes a big deal out of, turned out to be a lefty. I noticed it at the same time Nishinoya did. The reason this made me happy is because we lefties don't get a lot of representation in media, so when a powerful, big shot guy turns out to be left handed, it makes me overjoyed. And the fact that Haikyuu went into detail on how lefties are trouble, since they're more rare and more difficult to face for right handed people because of that, is cool as well.

For real tho, Tanaka deserves more love, he is such an integral part of the team and keeps up morale and I love him haha, loved seeing Sarah recognize him by his voice
So be on the lookout for that style in the future.
suga being the first person to cause one of the refs to open their eyes killed me
i loved noya calling his shot with how many spikes he needs to adjust, he's cold blooded
i mean if anyone can toot their own horn in volleyball...
BRING IT. BRING IT. BRING IT. BRING IT TO ME.
the creator of Haikyuu has some experience writing horror manga, and a lot of Tendou's design is inspired by that. you will definitely find out about our miracle boy as the season goes on
i like the lion king comparison, i think noya and tanaka would make a great timon and pumba
sarah completely in the tank for 2/6 shiritorizawa players so far smdh
so excited for the next ep, and the Q&A!
Am I wrong to initially have that impression of those players though?? They are not immediately likable. Tendou is CREEPY so I'm definitely seeing the horror inspiration coming in there.
😂 at the Timon and Pumba reference... you are so right!!
@@SarahPavanVolleyball when I said 'in the tank' I meant that you are pulling for them (Ushijima and Tendou, lol)
@@SarahPavanVolleyball yes, yes you are
It feels like in Haikyuu that every team has a cool captain and then one unique attention-grabbing teammate.
"I hope I don't come across as tooting my own horn."
What?
In haikyuu, all your questions is answered few episodes after... Also tendo is in my opinion one of the best written player of the serie.
No matter how many times I've watched this season, I always forget how much of a monster Ushijima is. He was touted as one of the best in the country and he sure shows it here. Just physically gonna overpower most of the competition.
The most dangerous ace ever
As a fellow lefty, thank you for the lefty love❤️
Edit: Abt the synchro attack btw, this match takes place in 2011 according to the Haikyuu timeline, so back then it was probably pretty rare for Japanese high school teams to be doing synchro attacks. With how much the sport evolves and levels up, nowadays the synchro is definitely standard
sarah: who is tendo?
Ushijima & tendo: we are best friends
Don't know if you're interested, but since you are a fan of the "Fly High" opening (like I am), you should check out the "Spring Version" at some point. For context, Spring is the Japanese season for graduations, thus why this version of the song sounds like something one might hear at a graduation. It's quite beautiful and moving, in my opinion.
the best treat of the entire weekend THANK YOU
I LOVE SARAH'S EXCITEMENT IN THIS EPISODE HAHAHAHAHA
8:55 lol we love a humble Olympic level athlete 😎💪
I wait every week for the best haikyuu reactions and breakdowns.😎✋
What do you mean "I don't wanna compare my self with him" you are a World champion, he should be thankful for you to compare him to yourself
The thing I love most about this episode, is that tsukki is constantly commentating the defense and the opponent's offense. What I mean by that is he's at this point in the game recognizing with the importance of doing recognizing what they're doing and it's going to be great when she finally makes that adjustment
You'll gonna love Tendo eventually, I swear. Hahaha. He's one of my fave characters in Haikyuu and I don't know why. 😂
Hey Sarah! Just want to say thank you to your Haikyuu reaction series...your reaction is so sincere and lovely that gives me so much fun and makes me rethink a lot on Haikyuu also on myself. I'm really your fan now!
Oh myy my favorite chapter of the series is coming soon, cant wait for you to keep watching! Love your reactions !
I really love how you're enjoying this season so far!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The comparison with king Lion was Gold! Why I'd never thinked that?
Tendou is just an incredibly insane character. He's so out of whack it's hilarious and a little terrifying at the same time.
Badass Nishinoya calling for the ball and the camera in an angle that makes him bigger than the court itself!
I want more reactions, they take a long time to come again, I'm getting anxious. You are beautiful
Brazil here hahahahah.
Thanks!
😊 🙏 💕
satori tendou is a really interesting character, he is what is known as a highly sensitive person, he is the opposite of ushijima wakatoshi, one of my favorite characters in this anime.
Your weekly haikyuu reaction vids give me lifeeeee
This season has my all time favorite moment, and I can't wait for you to see it!
As someone who knew nothing of volleyball when I watched this in highschool, aone, and tendo were by far my favorite :)
10:07 when I went for a couple months to my university's MVB games (early 2020 before spring break when they said don't come back)
They played music during theirs
16:14-16:19 lol watching him _tch_ then watching your reactions is like 🤩
Like we're really sitting watching this together
21:47 now that we're at S3,
This season are full of twist and turns and you'll feel it's dragging since the whole game is the whole season. Hang in there Sara San 🐱
Soooo pumped!! Love that you’re enjoying s3 so far, your commentary is fire as always.
ushijima is my fav ace in Haikyuu..he is just so good nothing else needed.
OMG the Scar/Hyena comparison is SO apt! Love it.
17:25 The exact moment when Nishinoya becomes your favourite character.
24:58 😂😂😂😂😂The voices give this impression too, in addition to the personalities shown!
That discord notification at 14:09 got me lol. I was checking my own discord to see if i got a message or something.
I was going nuts hearing the discord notifications during the video 😆. I have most of my notifications off except for important friends so when i kept hearing those notifications I thought a server was unmuted and went nuts trying to find it lololol. Loving the reactions though Sarah 😄
They will not only give you back stories, they will also give you more goosebumps sarah!
I don’t know why I feel proud about the team watching you commenting on the boys 😂😂maybe coz you’re a professional volleyball player …… love your reactions hope one day we get to see you play live 🌹
Amazing reaction🔥👍
24:23 a random comparison yes, but very on point =)) tendou does have that vibe
Love your reactions and energy!
This series being recommended to me by TH-cam is a blessing
Sarah, we already now the story we already now the result. Of course we glad if you hold up and put some commentaries, that's why we here.
Yes there are backstories, can't wait for your reaction TvT
Tendo is one of my favorite character! He's just such a cutiie
Hehe I'm so excited for you to get to know Tendou more! And I love the moment where you said you identified with Ushijima, it's so cool to see your pov.
And how cool is Noya??? I love that you both have that same boss mentality.
Tysm for a great reaction! And to echo other comments, it's never annoying when you pause to talk about it!
Ok everyone keeps saying that Tendou will grow on me, and you guys haven't been wrong yet.... but this guy is weird.
I identify with Ushijima as an athlete, but I am obsessed with Noya's attitude. I felt that so deeply.
all the reactions are so great :D
"One of the hyenas from the Lion King"
Omg you are so right he does give off that vibe😂😂
*2 more episodes I can't wait!*
28:35 I remember in my first year of middle school volleyball this 6 foot powerhouse player served a ball to my face. My glasses went flying and I don’t remember anything after until I got home, but we got the point so tiny me decided the brain damage was worth it lol. I did have to make the switch to contacts before playing her again though.
tendou is TOTALLY hyena energy. dare i say hes the chaotic good or shiratorizawa HAHAH
I think season 3 is my favourite - but I can't watch it without all the build-up either
NEEEEED Next espisode as soon as possible 😅
As a lefty, you cannot fathom how amazed and happy I was when I saw that, Ushijima, a powerful and amazing opponent who everyone makes a big deal out of, turned out to be a lefty. I noticed it at the same time Nishinoya did. The reason this made me happy is because we lefties don't get a lot of representation in media, so when a powerful, big shot guy turns out to be left handed, it makes me overjoyed. And the fact that Haikyuu went into detail on how lefties are trouble, since they're more rare and more difficult to face for right handed people because of that, is cool as well.
LMAO that Tendo-hyena comment was so on point, I can't unsee it now. Ushiwaka doesn't have nearly the fabuuloussss~~ swagger that Scar has though haha.
lets goo new video
💃 💃 💃
I died on your Scara and sidekick reference xD
That was hilarious :D please keep commenting and keep watching "with" us
The S3 OP might literally be the best anime intro ever. Fight me
That tendo hyena edit was priceless funniest thing I’ve seen all day
YES, Tendou best boy :D
I love him and I'm curious if you will too xD The comparison to one of the hyenas was on point!
Tendo is one of my favorite characters in the whole season and you will see some of his back story. He’s also probably the closest thing Ushiwaka has to a friend, and their relationship is fun.
Tendou is my favorite Haikyuu character, everyone on Shiratorizawa is really cool but he's so goofy and his playstyle is my favorite kind of style in sports
Guys gals and non-binary pals... we're soooo close 👀👀
And we could never be annoyed with you. Your insight is the best part!
Backstories = yes.
I've recorded a few more, and I think I know what you are hinting at 👀
@@SarahPavanVolleyball oh wow, already, now i can't wait to watch your reaction!!!
@@SarahPavanVolleyball I'm going to replay that video over and over when it drops.
@@SarahPavanVolleyball i love that noone can spoil that moment for you now. I guess we’ll all see it in x weeks 😅
