I feel like there should be a follow-up list about Top 10 Movie Duos. The dynamic of a partnership of two people is a little too specific compared to groups with bigger numbers. Besides as your #10 slot pointed out there is quite a swath of different types of duos you can go for.
Also movies about “teams” consisting of relatives. Like “best brother-sister duo”, “best family team” (although that one is, of course, incredibly obvious), “best parent-off-spring duo”, “best multi-generational related team”, “best identical twins or triplets”, and so forth.
They also could have started at one. What protagonists benefit from the dichotomy of being a loner with a group to lead? *Luke Skywalker is a central character who'd get nowhere without the mismatched band of adventurers he falls in with. *On the ham-handed side, when Dolph Lundgren played He-Man, the screenwriter(s?) was/were a little transparent having his teammates get into arguments for him to settle. *Ron Livingston liked playing Peter Gibbons, but called him "a bus-driver protagonist." He drives the plot forward, arguably blandly, as quirkier characters get on and off. Ultimately he recruits coworkers as the reluctant crew for a one-time crime. *And it's a whole lesson for Lightning McQueen that he can't go on denying his dependence on others for victory. He learns as he goes and picks his team; a coach, a pit crew, and other supporters. Since they didn't start this list with "teams that start with one," maybe there's enough for a list of Top Ten Supporting Casts! (That may or may not be distinct from ensemble casts.) :-)
Absolutely adore this channel. These list videos are almost overwhelming at times. From the films you mention that I've yet to see, to the ones I have, that you make me instantly want to rush out and revisit. And the writing, editing and narration are always top notch. THANK YOU for all the hard work your team puts into them.
Like you read my mind. Every single one of these I watch is a treasure, unwrapping a slew of other treasures I have yet to (but one day plan to) watch.
The one thing this list was missing is music. No singing trios, no bands, no dance troupes, no ensemble musicals or musical ensembles of any kind. Singing in the Rain's threesome, Roxy and Velma from Chicago, the Jets, Spinal Tap, Almost Famous I guess they mentioned The Blues Brothers and School of Rock, so there goes my comment, but you'd think it'd be its own category considering.
Jets as in Jets versus Sharks? There's a difference between stories about music groups and musicals about other stuff. So you're onto two lists! That'd be one for fictional music groups and one for musical ensemble casts! :-D
Finally! I've been reading all comments to see if anyone else remembered them! It's not easy to find a movie where you genuinely care about all 6 characters and they all have such distinct personalities
With due respect to Seven Samurai and LOTR, I was happy to see you diversify your picks by stepping away from the more obvious choices! I feel like you could probably even create a second list, or sub-lists within a few of these categories (though this is true for many of your wonderful lists, haha).
A crew with nine members: Apok, Switch, Cypher, Dozer, Tank, Mouse, Trinity, Morpheus, & Neo. Note the subtle subplots among them. (Apok and Switch have a relationship. Trinity shrouds four corpses with one another but apart from their murderer.) All in all, it's good use of supporting characters without overshadowing main characters.

It’s worth noting there could be a whole category of children’s adventure movies here. The talking animal teams from Homeword Bound or The Land Before Time, or the dragonriders in How to Train Your Dragon, or the kids from ET escaping on bikes, or the Disney cast of cartoon heroes like in Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast.
In the movies, they made Ron a bit redundant. In the books Ron is the one who's always thinking on his feet and has the most knowledge about the day to day of the wizarding world and was easily the bravest of the three. Most of the movies he's just the comic relief, especially the early ones, and is straight up nasty to Harry at times in later ones. His best traits get passed to Harry and Hermione and he's just left there not doing much.
2 honorable mentions that you've seemed to have forgotten - the Beatles in A Hard Day's Night (1964) and the Mean Machine in the original The Longest Yard (1974). You should have mentioned them at the very least.

We all know the Fast and Furious movies aren't really good (except for the first 3), but they were still mentioned. The team from Cool Runnings is absolutely deserving, even if the movie itself isn't.
Wind River was amazing, made me forget that I was watching two of the Avengers, in fact all the Taylor Sheridan films have great groups, Hell or High Water is another stunning example.
Clooney got snubbed yo, trio from O Brother, the team's chemistry in Ocean's Eleven is bonkers much better ensemble than 13 Assassins. Still I respect the hell outta y'alls lists.

The combination of Avengers, Guardians, Wakandans, Asgardians, Sorcerers & Ravagers that oppose Thanos seems it should've been considered for the army entry. The biggest moment from the biggest movie.
Since the Cowboy Bebop gang had a mention on the list, I HAD TO point out that the Straw Hat Crew from One Piece is THE BEST anime team/group and I wish it had made the list because it would so much deserve it.
I know this is a crazy CRAZY big task, but I need this channel to make a “just 10 (maybe 20-30) movies you should watch if you just love movies” I adore this channel. I’ve found so many great movies from this channel. I’ve won trivia points because of this channel. And in terms of production I appreciate its depth yet tangibility. But every single list gives me, in the gods honest truth, anywhere between 1-10 movies I want to watch, and of all the channels I follow THIS is the one I need a starters list. And it’s not like you won’t have PLENTY of options left, many who’d be left in the comments. I’ve posted all but this comment on older videos. This ironically is the first video I have definitely “liked” despite loving this channel since my first discovery
For as obvious as the picks may be, their exclusion I must condemn. Though I will admit you guys have spoken ad nauseum about the Fellowship and the Seven Samurai. But omitting the grand scale of the Avengers is a trip up. The Avengers isn't merely a spectacle for fans, it's an achievement in storytelling in cinema. Twenty films, each giving a back-story and arc for each character to overcome, culminating in a film that pushes that camaraderie to its maximum. They debate one another, challenge each other, help each other step up to the plate when they've fallen down, and unite knowing they have each others back. For Endgame, everyone had a moment or line that became memorable. True the actual grand team-up on par with the POWs of Stalag III was a third act story beat, but in a series of films that catered to the lovers of the lore, this was what teamwork was all about, what everyone had been building towards for twelve years. Avengers... assemble.

I can't believe that you forgot the crew from Mad Max Fury Road. We start the movie with a bunch of weirdos trying to kill each other, but by the end, they work togheter perfectly and we, the audience, see the characters as real friends. MEDIOCRE!
I know your picks are logically illogical, and I would never despair "The Three Stooges", but using those criteria, there is no way "Laurel & Hardy" should be passed over.

You guys really are the kings & queens of listicles. Sure, lists are an attention-getting "cheap" format most of the time, but you always imbue yours with equal doses of fun and seriousness, and aren't afraid to fill your top slots with obscure, out-of-the-way, or artful choices. I've been turned on to so many good movies because of these.
Mustang was my favorite film the year it came out. Thanks for shining a light on it. It deserves to be seen. And nothing makes me like someone more than when they share my love for Cowboy Bebop :)
They aren't from movies, though they have plenty but my favorite 10 person team is the Straw Hat Pirates from One Piece. You won't find a tighter knit group and their actions have shaken the world on multiple occasions. Though the defining factor for them is the fact that they'll stand up to any force no matter how powerful in order to save one of their own. Not disagreeing with your choice for the list but I wanted to share another great team here.
When he brought up teams of 2 and described partners, the first duo that popped to mind was "End of Watch." the growth between them was really well done and the ending was that much more impactful because of it.
Watching your deliciously thoughtful lists' high is one of life's greatest pleasures. I almost cheered seeing the spider people there, and the peaches. Loved every second.
I wish you had mentioned Korea's 2015 Choi Dong-hoon film, Assassination. A disparate group who basically swept up together by chance, never truly have goals that exactly align until everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and flip that dynamic into one of true trust and conviction.

If it's only the movie, then I can see why Serenity is an honourable mention. But if we're including the TV series, then the Serenity crew is by far my favourite team of them all. It's such a diverse team of strong and unique characters with very nuanced inter-personal relationships.

Great list, as always! I would have loved to see Ocean's 8 on this as an honourable mentions at least, since having the eight women team up together and combine their individual talents to come up with the perfect crime, while being fully aware that they wouldn't be suspects because women still are underestimated. Another great duo for the first slot would be Men in Black, also. And ... for sports team one has to mention Lagaan! It's just a brilliant group of people who are so completely different who unite against the oppressors to win a game of cricket. I guess it's impossible to fit all of them into a single 20min video, simply because plots revolve around the dynamics of a group of characters (with varying degrees of success of course), but as always your reasons for picking your films are great.
When I think of teams of 8 or 9, I'd have to give at least an honorable mention to Captain Miller's squad from Saving Private Ryan. I think the screenwriter did a great job at making each character different enough and giving them just enough time for us to get a sense of their personalities (some more than others, obviously). For example, as frustrated as one might be as a viewer for Caparzo wanting to take the child, it serves as an important and memorable character moment. They're one of my favorite large ensembles. EDIT: Oh, he mentioned the 101st Airborne. Though I'm going to be that guy and say that the opening beach scene was actually the 29th Infantry and the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and after Omaha beach you mostly focus on the squad. But hey, it got mentioned so I'll take it haha.

I did all of this on the off chance that the Billy shoutout in this video was a response to my comment in a previous video, which asked if your writer had sadly been lost when CineFix was integrated into IGN. I'm leaving this comment to let you know that I see now that the writing (if it has MAYBE lost a bit of its elegance and conciseness for the sake of greater productivity and longer videos) is still as intelligent, insightful, and most importantly, reflective of a deep love for movies as ever. My 12th grade English teacher played Harold & Maude for our class in 2007. The whole class groaned at first but ended up falling in love with the movie. My friends group even started listening to Cat Stevens all the time because of it. Great movie.
Lord of the Rings is hard, it could be the duo of Sam and Frodo, the trio of Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn on the hunt, the whole 9 of the Fellowship or Theoden's army in the fields of Pelennor. So many iconic teams.
The original Muppet Movie should have been on this list. It starts as a single and quickly turns to a double, and then a trio, then a quartet until -WHAMO- army of muppets. Missed opportunity. Oh man. Rockford Peaches is a perfect pick. Huge team of interesting characters. Everybody gets a little bit of time.

I know this is a crazy CRAZY big task, but I need this channel to make a “just 10 (maybe 20-30) movies you should watch if you just love movies”
I adore this channel. I’ve found so many great movies from this channel. I’ve won trivia points because of this channel. And in terms of production I appreciate its depth yet tangibility. But every single list gives me, in the gods honest truth, anywhere between 1-10 movies I want to watch, and of all the channels I follow THIS is the one I need a starters list.
And it’s not like you won’t have PLENTY of options left, many who’d be left in the comments.
I’ve posted all but this comment on older videos. This ironically is the first video I have definitely “liked” despite loving this channel since my first discovery
For as obvious as the picks may be, their exclusion I must condemn. Though I will admit you guys have spoken ad nauseum about the Fellowship and the Seven Samurai. But omitting the grand scale of the Avengers is a trip up.
The Avengers isn't merely a spectacle for fans, it's an achievement in storytelling in cinema. Twenty films, each giving a back-story and arc for each character to overcome, culminating in a film that pushes that camaraderie to its maximum. They debate one another, challenge each other, help each other step up to the plate when they've fallen down, and unite knowing they have each others back. For Endgame, everyone had a moment or line that became memorable. True the actual grand team-up on par with the POWs of Stalag III was a third act story beat, but in a series of films that catered to the lovers of the lore, this was what teamwork was all about, what everyone had been building towards for twelve years. Avengers... assemble.

I can't believe that you forgot the crew from Mad Max Fury Road. We start the movie with a bunch of weirdos trying to kill each other, but by the end, they work togheter perfectly and we, the audience, see the characters as real friends.

You guys really are the kings & queens of listicles. Sure, lists are an attention-getting "cheap" format most of the time, but you always imbue yours with equal doses of fun and seriousness, and aren't afraid to fill your top slots with obscure, out-of-the-way, or artful choices. I've been turned on to so many good movies because of these.

The trio (or foursome, depending on how you see it) from Tokyo Godfathers is one of my all-time favorites.
Having only seen the first couple minutes of this, I really hope the acting cast of "noises off" will be near the top category. Such a great cast.

They aren't from movies, though they have plenty but my favorite 10 person team is the Straw Hat Pirates from One Piece. You won't find a tighter knit group and their actions have shaken the world on multiple occasions. Though the defining factor for them is the fact that they'll stand up to any force no matter how powerful in order to save one of their own.
Not disagreeing with your choice for the list but I wanted to share another great team here.

When he brought up teams of 2 and described partners, the first duo that popped to mind was "End of Watch." the growth between them was really well done and the ending was that much more impactful because of it.

One team that should have gotten an honorable mention for the trio is the escapees from "O Brother Where Art Thou?"
I wish you had mentioned Korea's 2015 Choi Dong-hoon film, Assassination. A disparate group who basically swept up together by chance, never truly have goals that exactly align until everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and flip that dynamic into one of true trust and conviction.
This is the best list you guys have done. So many movies on here that I've adored. My only gripe is the obvious... no Seven Samurai

If it's only the movie, then I can see why Serenity is an honourable mention. But if we're including the TV series, then the Serenity crew is by far my favourite team of them all. It's such a diverse team of strong and unique characters with very nuanced inter-personal relationships.

Great list, as always! I would have loved to see Ocean's 8 on this as an honourable mentions at least, since having the eight women team up together and combine their individual talents to come up with the perfect crime, while being fully aware that they wouldn't be suspects because women still are underestimated. Another great duo for the first slot would be Men in Black, also. And ... for sports team one has to mention Lagaan! It's just a brilliant group of people who are so completely different who unite against the oppressors to win a game of cricket.
I guess it's impossible to fit all of them into a single 20min video, simply because plots revolve around the dynamics of a group of characters (with varying degrees of success of course), but as always your reasons for picking your films are great.
When I think of teams of 8 or 9, I'd have to give at least an honorable mention to Captain Miller's squad from Saving Private Ryan. I think the screenwriter did a great job at making each character different enough and giving them just enough time for us to get a sense of their personalities (some more than others, obviously). For example, as frustrated as one might be as a viewer for Caparzo wanting to take the child, it serves as an important and memorable character moment. They're one of my favorite large ensembles.
EDIT: Oh, he mentioned the 101st Airborne. Though I'm going to be that guy and say that the opening beach scene was actually the 29th Infantry and the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and after Omaha beach you mostly focus on the squad. But hey, it got mentioned so I'll take it haha.

I'm leaving this comment to let you know that I see now that the writing (if it has MAYBE lost a bit of its elegance and conciseness for the sake of greater productivity and longer videos) is still as intelligent, insightful, and most importantly, reflective of a deep love for movies as ever.

My 12th grade English teacher played Harold & Maude for our class in 2007. The whole class groaned at first but ended up falling in love with the movie. My friends group even started listening to Cat Stevens all the time because of it. Great movie.

Lord of the Rings is hard, it could be the duo of Sam and Frodo, the trio of Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn on the hunt, the whole 9 of the Fellowship or Theoden's army in the fields of Pelennor. So many iconic teams.
The original Muppet Movie should have been on this list. It starts as a single and quickly turns to a double, and then a trio, then a quartet until -WHAMO- army of muppets.
