  • So recently, Ive been playing a bunch of Mega Man games on my Xbox, and decided to play Mighty No. 9 again, after a loong time. I ended up having a lot of fun after getting better at games in general after years, which made me want to make a video expressing how I personally feel about the game. Overall I don't think the game deserves everything it gets thrown at it. Thanks for reading! Music used in the video that wasn't listed will be down below!

    Opinions from someone having played through the game recently: I believe the game CAN be fun to play. Dashing feels good and I find the weapons at least as Beck to be fun and have uses. But the game does an AWFUL job at teaching the player virtually anything. Things like how you can dash indefinitely in the air as long as you have enough space to descent, holding down the dash making it go a larger distance, the crouch dash that you're asked to use only like 2 or 3 times in the whole game, among other weird and unnecessary mechanics. This applies to the level design and bosses too, they aren't the worst when you understand them, in fact I can find them fun, but they are unreasonably punishing for a first playthrough, along with the healthbar mechanic being weird and also explained badly. I get it, the tips menu exists but that shouldn't be how you teach the player the mechanics, they should be tested by the design of the enemies and levels.
    There's other things that draw the gameplay back but I think the overly punishing beginner traps and the game's inability to teach the player most of what it's about is the worst part.
    And I think Ray is a cool character that's sometimes more fun than Beck, but I don't enjoy her weapons that much and I cannot recommend her to someone that again, isn't already familiar with the game's level and boss design

      I completely agree, when I first played through the game, I was struggling my way through, barley able to beat Pyro. And the game does need a better way to emphasize somethings. By now, yes, I remember the crouch dash, and the boss patterns, but before, that turbine section I mentioned had me scratching my head, and certain bosses had me furious.
      Sadly, I actually don't own Ray, as mentioned before, while I did get the game from Dollar Tree, it was pre owned.

    i think people didnt like this game because it looked like megaman so they played it as if it were mega man, and since in OG megaman you have to move pretty slowly as well as the slide not being an incredibly important attack like the dash in mighty no. 9.

    • @PrimeShiem
      @PrimeShiem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do think that has something to do with how the game was received, I believe if it was marketed as a faster paced game, or just more accurately makerted in general, overall reception woulda been better.

    Yeah, the devs bit off more than they could chew by releasing it for so many different platforms. Instead of focusing on one or two & making the best game they could, they spread themselves too thin.
    Pretty much all the complaints can be tracked back to that. If they hadn’t been trying to port it to everything, they could’ve spent more time polishing the game.
    But I still love it. It’s still a solid game, & I still play it once in a while. I wish they’d take another shot with it & do a sequel. Even the first Megaman was a bomb. It would’ve been forgotten to time if not for part 2.

    To me it's curious how often people pick up the game so many years after its debacle and *find genuine enjoyment out of it,* even though the game it's the same as it was back 2016, no bug fixes or anything. And I think that if the community was more tolerant about it could serve not so much as a substitute but as a complement to fill the gap between releases: we could have twice as many games but without the oversaturation since they are different series from different developers (already 4 years since Mega Man 11, would have gone easier with a Mighty sequel in the middle), _it really is a "better than nothing" game._
    Btw, have you checked the RAY DLC? Zero-like extra playable character with a debilitating health bar gimmick and makes the game a lot more frenetic, gets her own set of weapons that make you approach bosses slightly different.

    • @PrimeShiem
      @PrimeShiem  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, there is a thing with people picking up games that were publicly disliked and enjoying it, but I've always enjoyed Mighty No. 9 honestly, when I was younger, I thought it was a little too difficult tho. I do think the game was done a disservice as it was marketed and treated as a substitute for Mega Man.
      I actually don't have the Ray dlc, and I've been thinking about getting it for a while now, I'll probably get it because of this comment, actually.

      @@PrimeShiem Great! And yes, I do understand the frustrations people had back in the the day (even I had to warm up to the game after the embarrassing "Masterclass" trailer and disastrous launch), especially from the backers who pledged way above the retail cost of the game and how utterly mismanaged the project was with poor communication and Keiji Inafune not showing much concern about the quality of the game.
      But I think all of that should be left in the past at this point, it's been 6 years already since it came out *and 10 years since the Kickstarter campaign after this year.* People can't be salty about it _that_ long, right? I liked it. And is a fan of it. It reminded me of Mega Man X in a way. I also liked how Mighty Gunvolt Burst had a classic MegaMan styled DLC of Mighty No. 9 Beck. I like Mighty No. 9 cause it reminds me of MegaMan. The gameplay, characters, OST BGM Soundtrack, and storyline reminds me so much of MegaMan. And I'd like to see the Mighty No. 9 Animated series become an actual TV Show. I've seen and played far worse thing than this. So I'm just curious is all. Is there anyone else who actually likes Mighty No. 9? I still find it enjoyable. And Keiji Inafune can make a sequel game. And update the graphics and gameplay quality. And get the show going. Eh, I'm glad you enjoyed it but it's definitely a mediocre game at best. It definitely helps that people who play it now will be able to do so at a very low price or "free" on some gaming subscriptions.
    I think people do need to keep things in context when looking at the backlash when the game first came out. People were expecting great things from this game, due to the promises they've made and the people working on the project, only to see a game that was a generation or 2 behind in terms of quality. Also didn't help that there were numerous delays for it, for a multiplayer mode that didn't even function well once the game was finally released. TL;DR: game got so much hate because expectations were "high", but we only got an average game out of it.

    • @PrimeShiem
      @PrimeShiem  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can definitely see that as a reason why this game is a major point of back lash, as when this game was coming out, it was being built up as Mega Man's successor, yet, in many people's eyes, it failed.
      Honestly I truthfully don't even consider this game a true successor to Mega Man, but almost as if a fun, side step. I can also agree that context is something that is can effect a games overall reputation, like No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077.

    • @faboo2001
      @faboo2001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PrimeShiem For me, it wasn't really about it not being a proper successor to "Mega Man", but the execution to all the idea that they had just wasn't done well.
      The big issue would be the dash mechanic, specifically the absorbing part, and how it didn't really mesh well. It felt very counterintuitive on how you would have to damage an enemy from a distance and then dash into them to finish them off. And the game pretty much forces you to play in such a way since killing an enemy with only a blaster takes forever.
      Did you know that you can crouch dash under some of the boss attacks? I know it sounds like an obvious option to consider, but I definitely forgot it existed! That mechanic was barely used and poorly implemented, the only part you really needed was for those insta-death turbines. Sure they are some narrow passages in other levels, but simply dashing into them causes you to automatically crouch under into them.

    • @PrimeShiem
      @PrimeShiem  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@faboo2001 honestly, I did forget, and the only reason I remember now is because repeated playthroughs and certain set pieces in stages like the Electric stage.
      Truthfully, the games execution, isnt the best, and that is something I can freely admit. As an example, Mega Man usually has the player face foes from a distance, and while Mn9 does the same thing, the dash like you said, is near essential for kills. And while I've always enjoyed close and personal encounters, I can most definitely understand that it is a clash to the norm, with certain enemies, like in Mega Man, best handled at a distance.
