The concept and plot of this game was nice. No villains, all of them were good guys and were just trying to do good before their untimely and unfortunate deaths, with the prize being another shot at life. I wish this had actually continued or at least have a remake

The soundtrack was so good, that DJ Uneek sampled the sounds for E. 1999. Completely agree though, a true gem.

Unpolished, but a great gem. It needed a bit more of testing so the CPU didn't cheat with its chi, but the characters were Neo Geo grade in size and detail

I liked the background of this game in that everyone of them was someone who if they'd lived would've impacted history in a major way for the greater good .....I mean they took fighters from all eras even a caveman who'd died because he'd been born with an intellect far ahead of his time and he wanted to use it for good instead of evil.......his fighting style though it was hilarious: Pain Slash had the first and most direct fighting style

There was an animated series on the table at one point. From what I can tell it was cancelled early on as no plot details have came forward. Had it been completed I imagine it to be a vehicle to sell toys and being aimed at kids though(this is speculation though)

The story was ahead of its time.
To be honest, I loved the Eternal Champion instead of a villain role. He's a mentor's role as much as he pitted the characters to fight each other and if one wins. They'll prevent their tragic downfall and changed the future for the better. My favorite ones are Midnight, Triden, and Xavier.
Exactly. These people before their unfair deaths were about the change the ways of the people around them. They weren’t pitted against each other because of amusement. They were pitted against each other because they can learn and grow so they have both the knowledge AND power to save their own lives.
Those were the 3 Characters I played with the most hopefully this can crowd funded with go fund me or something

I think, Trident and Slash would've had to best outcome for the world itself. Slash taught his and other people to live in peace, rather then doing war. Back in the Stoneage, that could give humanity a huge boost of technology.
Trident let the Atlanteans and Romans combine their civilisations and so also their technology and military. If the two civilisations would continue this, earth's middle age would've never existed and the technology could've made great inventions much earlier

This fighting game had a unique development of its concept and the fighters. Their bios showed when and what happened before their untimely deaths. As for their endings, it’s where they’re granted life again after the contest and leave off to where they died to fix everything they couldn’t finish and succeeded within their existence of their own time.
God I loved this game as a kid. This brings back serious nostalgia! I grew up with games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, and everyone I speak to remembers those, but when I bring this up, they're like...what? Never heard of that one! Seriously underrated! I also found all their backstories really sad. I also played the hell out of Shadow!
Larcen's story was tragic af. This game needs a revival it had great backstories for the characters.
Surprisingly, two of the characters got their own spin-off games at the time. Shadow is a playable character in X-Perts (Sega Genesis), and Larcen was the player character in Chicago Syndicate (Game Gear)

ALso the original crossroads is the "bad ending" theme, i knew about the bio screen but just found out Crossroads ( the original, not the DJ uneek mo thug remix, aka the one they won grammys for ) samples it.

Shadow is the only character I dont sympathize but do have empathy for, she is the one character who is fully aware of her job and consequences. As a assassin of that caliber ur sworn in and are a member for life its blood in and blood out and mission must b completed or else. It sucks to b in that perdicument where u cant quit or retire out so it's one of those situations where its snitch or die just like most mob scenarios

Agreed, which is why I don't have much Sympathy for Larcen or Riptide (the female pirate) from the 2nd game. You can't get into the Underworld and not know what's going on.

It sucks that these awesome old games exist and yet with our amazing computer tech we can’t play them. Obviously people worked for a long time on this game and this video is all that remains
You can play these gems on PC using an emulator. In fact, these endings and all other genesis playthroughs on the channel were played and recorded on Fusion emulator.
Uhh emulation exists man, lol. You can play tons of old games from NES, SNES, Genesis, etc etc all the way up to stuff like the PS3. I have a ton of emulators on my PC.

I like Larcen, He isn't the best but to me has a pretty cool design and legit looks like Eddie from Who Frame Roger Rabbit.
Putting it in perspective, he was from 1920s Chicago, in the thick of the mob wars.
I played this in 1993. Even with the stiff controls, this game was in a league of its own. Can you imagine if it would've had the smooth input controls of SFII or MKII.

Eternal Champions is a great game and I like the fatalities, but there is one thing I don´t understand: The Eternal Champion wants to restore balance between good and evil again. This will be achieved if one of the 9 Fighters don´t die in their time. I mean, it´s pretty sadistic of the Champion to save them from being killed, just to tell them only one of them will live, but hey - this will save the world...
Also the Champion himself wants to restore balance, so why the hell is he fighting us at the end of the game? He knows that the world will be doomed if he wins, so...why?
Probably because he is a martial artist and the embodiment of pure martial arts from previous masters.
Gotta earn the right to live with your fist if you a real martial artist! 💪🏾
I hate to be that guy, but the only ending that changes basically nothing(at least to me) is Jetta’s, all that happens is that Russia doesn’t go eastwards(so no Russo-Japanese war) but that’s it, a government was set up, but who’s to say that the Tsar would listen to them(he didn’t listen to the Duma in our timeline), WWI still breaks out(maybe a few years earlier than in our timeline), Lenin is still smuggled back into Russia by the Germans, the two Russian Revolutions still happen, and everything goes the same way it does in our timeline
Trident ultimately was a villain the comics expanded more each character in lore

Speaking of believable, the capoeira style seems like a better fit for Jetta than Trident considering it requires a flexible body to perform all those acrobatic moves.
Sure, let's Chuck the idea of alternate earths with alternate timelines out the window. Great thing about "what if" scenarios is simply the concept itself... "What If?" What if the Brazilians weren't the first practitioners of Capoeira? What if there was a cousin of that Russian emperor?
I always figured he learned it while training for the contest. I'm sure they all trained tirelessly under the Eternal Champion's tutelage.

@@ericmcwilliams7719 happened to me as well, many times. But after several attempts, you realize he has a pattern and if anyone can easily defeat him it's Slash.

This explain a lot...
The worst part about this game was spending years to get good enough to make it to the eternal champion, then to have him cheat by spaming special moves but losing no "mana" and by using the insult special to keep your mana too low to do any special moves. Then, he has four life bars, and when you lose, you don't go back two characters like normal, the game tells you, that you ruined history and it is all your fault. I was incredibly good at fighting games...there was never a human opponent I couldn't beat. But to cheat, then tell a kid they ruined the world because they couldn't defeat you on their first try...yeah...there is a reason this game is a memory and not an ongoing franchise.
That being said, I did love this game, but wish they had handled the final boss differently. After my mother died, I couldn't handle the abuse this game dished out with it's unrealistic expectations, and stopped playing it.
