Red Hill Mining Town is a song off of the album The Joshua Tree which IMO is one of the best albums of the last 50 years. The song chronicles the struggles of families during the mining strike of 1984 in the UK. How the families lives were torn apart, how those jobs represented the essence of who they were as people and not just jobs. The song is a tribute to hard working people everywhere and how often they are forgotten. Thx again Stan!!

The lines “I can lose myself, you I can’t live without” and “we stoop so low to reach so high” both illustrate the constant internal struggle of sacrificing what you want in order to receive what you need. That is a central theme in Bono’s lyrics, it’s very spiritual and freeing

Red Hill is the name of the National Union of Minors HQ at County Durham in the North East of England.
The song was inspired by the book by Tony Parker which documents the struggles of the families of those who fought the government closure of mines in the infamous 1984(!) strike.
The families were from Easington in County Durham.
The strike ripped families apart, Men felt they couldn’t look after they families, they couldn’t sleep with their wives or face their children.
This period of history should never be forgotten. The government made the pits unprofitable then closed them. They sold out the working man and ultimately destroyed the power of the nuclear family. These communities are now gone forever.
I was raised just up the road in a mining town in Northumberland. Too young to understand, but it’s in my DNA.
    Gods Country!

Hey Stan, thanks for this reaction. This is my favorite band. I love the energy they bring. U2 has been around since the late 70s and they've put out great music for over 40 years. 4 guys from Dublin, Ireland who meet in school. This song is off the Joshua Tree album. The whole album is fantastic. This is actually one of the lesser known songs from the album, but it's always been one of my favorite. I remember reading years ago that the song was supposed to have horns but for some reason it didn't work out Bono, the singer, has said that the song has always sounded unfinished to him.

U2 remastered the song in 2017 with that horn section more pronounced, along with new vocals. Fyi...

Dirty Day, Exit, One Tree Hill, Ordinary Love, Ultraviolet, MOFO, Bad, All I Want Is You, Kite, Raised By Wolves, Last Night On Earth, End Of The World, All Because Of You , these are just a handful of the many, many great songs by the greatest band of all time.

Great song. The song was never performed live on the original Joshua tree tour in 1987.
Apparently the song was sang in one take. Bono did it and was apparently emotional drained. The song was never performed live over fears Bono putting that much into it on tour every night and it effecting his voice for the rest of the show or tour .
It was performed on the Joshua tree tour in 2017 though .The song was changed slightly to suit Bonos voice more.
Try every breaking wave live from the mtv ema’s 2014 or bad from live aid

Stan this is one of the most underrated songs that U2 have ever written it's off the Joshua Tree album from 1987 and yes the Emotion and Power from Bono's voice is unmatched I'm gonna drop a song that I'm Hoping you will do it'll be from the same album but it'll be a live version from 2018 from Abbey Road studios in London please react to it " 🙏🎶🎤🎸

Bonos mother passed when he was about 16 I think it affected him deeply maybe thats part of the reason he has so much passion in his voice. Read rattle and hum all you need to know about U2.

STAN, My favorite Reactor: I LOVED the song too. I don't remember hearing it before either. It's funny how music can be an awakening of something new in your senses, if only you pay attention. I bought a new pickup truck, that has Satellite service. But what's really cool about it, it has a built-in SuperBass SubWoofer System in it with 20+ speakers. AND, STAN, guess what turns my volume up: RAP MUSIC! I have CD's already from before, like 3 6Mafia. Love their music! THANK YOU, and please take care!

If you want to see a very powerful song, check out Bad from Dortmund Germany, 1984. Bono's emotional delivery will take your breath away...

You have to listen to U2 Until the End of the World its alot darker and more of a heavier rock song and it has an epic guitar solo.

The best live bootleg version of “With or Without You” is here on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/07xNedRlQuc/w-d-xo.html
To this day… after 30 years of being a fan… I think is their best version of it. Might be worth doing a reaction of “Joshua Tree” version versus live concert. 😊
Thank you so much for doing Red Hill Mining Town. It’s my favorite song off of Joshua Tree.
