Legendary performance. Larry Mullen Jr. has crafted quite a few iconic beats. Achtung Baby is a true masterpiece, Andrew. That album is an absolute must.👍
I pretty much wore out my U2 Live at Red Rocks cassette in the mid eighties. New Years Day stands out, it's a great listen! I remember renting the concert video back in the day.
Seen many shows at Red Rocks and even had my high school graduation there. It’s as breathtaking as you think it is. Great video. Can’t wait to see U2 at the Sphere in December!!!
Mocking is ridiculous as music is so subjective but how on earth did such a band so lacking in talent make it? there is nothing out there more rudementary barring the sex pistols and of course simple can be good too
These guys were so good when they were young and hungry. I'm sure they still are. Saw them a couple times in the 80's, saw Rattle and Hum in the theaters twice on opening day and went to see their pop up live performance in San Francisco that was featured at the end (All Along the Watchtower). One of the great benefits of living where I did during the birth of Thrash Metal and the area's access to luve music of varied gengres. Plus, this makes all the Irish DNA in my body (most of it) go absolutely barmy. 🍀🤘🧙♂️🤘🍀
Andy, I really liked how you split screen the video playback and your reaction angle. Nice new look! Gives the video you are looking at a larger screen for us viewers as well. And I really liked the surprise bonus of your playthrough of the song. Your video editing is top shelf! "You've come along way baby!"
Legendary groove by Larry. Remembering the 80ies, every drummer I knew learned and practiced this groove. But you can't use it in any other song, because it is too recognizable 😂
I love being able to go back and see their set from the US Festival, such a raw performance. Bono was obviously inspired by the crowd. He, in turn, used that energy to fire up the audience (early in the day even). The thing most people forget is that the band is not immune from Bono's magic. They get pumped too. Amazing to behold. I was at both US Festivals and this was one of the high points of both. Considering how early in the day they played, they managed a ridiculous level of hype from the crowd. 🤘🍀🧙♂️🤘
This was U2 when they were still great. Which to my mind was up to Joshua Tree. They were still young and hungry, playing 300 gigs a year and out to prove themselves. Most bands decline once they become successful - They get married, have kids, record an album on occasion and play maybe 40-50 dates a year in summer. I'm not blaming them for not wanting to spend their whole lives on a tour bus, but the constant touring and hunger is what makes a band great to begin with.
I always took this drum line for granted until I watched Sina Drums perform it with good camera angles. I always liked Larry, check out "With a Shout" for really outstanding octopus type work.
Hi, Andrew! Appreciate your commentary, as always. Love his Yamaha drums too. I've been on TAMA for years but also love those Yamahas. Having said that, Red Rock must be AWESOME. Saw a Dave Mathew's concert from there on video, super cool. No comment beyond that.
Their Las Vegas residency starts tomorrow (9/29), unfortunately Without Larry as he’s still in recovery mode per his doctor after back surgery a few months back. It’s at the $2-3 Billion (!!) Sphere and they’re the very first act to appear there. There should be numerous videos up by the time the weekend comes to an end. - “Scheduled to consist of 25 concerts from 29 September to 16 December 2023, the engagement will inaugurate the Sphere with performances focused on the group's 1991 album Achtung Baby.” -- more info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U2:UV_Achtung_Baby_Live_at_Sphere?wprov=sfti1
Truly one of the best concert venues in the world. The acoustics are incredible. Plus, you usually get a view of Denver skyline. But, the rain/mist fit this song though, huh!
Aric made a 40min drums- only piece of music (I don't know what to call it). Even if it's to long for a reaction video (maybe long enough for a live stream?), it's absolutely worth checking out! Meinl Cymbals - Aric Improta - "Blur-Lights in the Videodrome".
Really loved the rocky powerful and raw sound they had in the beginning. Then, they went down the more commercial sound and that was it for me. Still, their talent is beyond any contestation or doubt.
I know Red Rocks quite well...too well. Been to a handful concerts there in the mid 80s (also saw U2 at the old McNichols Arena in Mar1985 and again in 1987 for one of the Rattle & Hum video shootings), and we use to run the stairs and seats for Ski Team workouts (when running the seats, the goal was to one step each row, and they got further apart the higher you ran up them.
IIRC, Night Flight almost always played U2 songs from this live performance... So it was much later when I actually heard the album versions... lol. The rest of the live performance is pretty darn good. For me, this live performance is peak U2. Not really a fan of their later songs - but really liked their earlier stuff for sure. It is interesting that the comments each seem to have a different peak U2 era.
Nice video like always👌 but you have to check the last video of drumeo with chad smith where he listens for the first time to "The kill" form 30 seconds to mars, I was absolutely blown away by it....🥶
I heard a lot of early U2 for the first time from this recording. The versions from this album became the "standard" versions for me and when I eventually heard the studio versions, I was often a little underwhelmed. This just seems to me to be the perfectly captured blend of studio and live. Obviously it's all live, but they are pretty faithful to the studio, with just the right amount of "in the moment" re-interpretation.
I remember when U2 forced their entire album on to every iPhone and people couldn’t delete it. I didn’t like their music before and forcing the album on to my phone wasn’t going to change my mind.
Another great one from this same concert is An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart. Insane transition between the two songs. The Edge is the master of transitions 🥰
You’re right. 10th biggest selling artist of all time, highest grossing tour of all time, highest grossing and most tickets sold of any artist of all time, biggest single act ticketed concert of all time. And ps. Apple gave the album for free because of their long time relationship with the band. not U2.
It's about the frustration of a Sunday, isn’t it? You wake up in the morning, you’ve got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you’ve got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think _“Sunday, bloody Sunday!”._
Kind of sad that U2 turned into a bit of a caricature in the last decade or so - their body of work through the 80's into the mid-nineties is as good as anyone in modern music history.
As anyone in history? Well I agree with your first sentence, dreadful musicians and lucky to take in the Irish American audience based on nationalism but music is subjective and people enjoy it
War is unremarkable? The Unforgettable Fire is unremarkable? The Joshua Tree is unremarkable? Achtung Baby is unremarkable? Zooropa is unremarkable? All That You Can’t Leave Behind is unremarkable? Not only are those all insanely good albums but every one has a different style and growth transformation from the other. Sounds like you haven’t actually listened to any of the actual albums, you just are parroting what every jealous U2 hater says with no actual explanation.
Yes all unremarkable and dull with their 3 chord rudementary songs, music is subjective and it's great (but bewildering to me) that you find pleasure in their "music" , so dull Andrew is struggling here to remember anything relevant, they fed on the new York Irish nationalism and are extremely limited but enjoy
@@kippsguitar6539 I find it bewildering and remarkable that anyone with any sense of passion or compassion, cannot find a single song of their career over the last 40 years it doesn’t strike a chord with them
Legendary performance. Larry Mullen Jr. has crafted quite a few iconic beats. Achtung Baby is a true masterpiece, Andrew. That album is an absolute must.👍
The world's luckiest and most unremarkable band
War was a masterpiece. Achtung Baby was not even in the same decade as this.
I pretty much wore out my U2 Live at Red Rocks cassette in the mid eighties. New Years Day stands out, it's a great listen! I remember renting the concert video back in the day.
One of the great albums.
One of my favorite albums. So great!

Graduation!? 🤯
I’m jealous
Seeing this makes me nostalgic. We were so lucky to have red rocks in back yard. So many incredible shows and so many great times.
Dude!! U2 War is one of the Best Album's Ever!! No lying Top 5 All Time... Must Listen
People mock U2 but they had some of the most iconic songs ever
Mocking is ridiculous as music is so subjective but how on earth did such a band so lacking in talent make it? there is nothing out there more rudementary barring the sex pistols and of course simple can be good too
One of my favorite videos. I love at around 7:42 Bono waves the bass player to come up front with him and the Edge. The whole concert is phenomenal.
Unforgettable fire is an amazing album. Their 4th album. Very unique sound in 1984 Brian Eno was involved in it.
So raw
Unforgettable Fire is my favorite U2 album.
u2 was till 1990 a great band... all after 1990 was only mainstreamsh*it...
Larry Mullen Jr. started out in a marching band, so he's very familiar with the militial beat. And it fit with the theme of the album.
An MTV staple back in the day. Still extremely powerful.
Yes! 🙌

Greetings from Denver, Colorado. I live about 20 minutes from Red Rocks! Seen so many concerts there.
😮
Jealous!
I have this LP from back in the day. Great stuff!
Great tune, the beats that Larry mullen Junior came up with is what made u2 what they are great video great pic have a great day Mr Rooney

Wow 40 yrs.. u2 is the band I’ve seen the most. Such a solid solid drummer.

Back in the days - we rented this VHS over and over again. The whole concert is amazing. #lottalove
Andrew this is one of the nicest and most unique concert venues in the world. And I live three miles from it!

Saw U2 at the US festival. It was the show before this one. Really surprised.

I got the video tape live at red rock probably soon after it was issued! Always loved it. It’s been decades since I’ve seen it.
🤯

October is U2’s best record.

OKAY ITS NICE TO WITNESS LARRY JNR GETTING SOME RECOGNISTION!!
Looks like the video was shot at Mordor, which just makes it even more badass☘

Have to agree. Lost me a bit
Larry Mullens greatest skill is leaving space for the other parts to breath
Clayton plays different bass parts live than on the album versions, especially in this era he had a tendency to improvise a bit

If you wanna see some great U2 drums, have a look at Daddy’s Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car from the Sydney Zoo TV tour

There’s a reason Apple Music tries to give U2 songs away. They can’t sell them.
