Found this movie when I was looking up Seiko Matsuda's old songs. I've been a fan of Matsuda since the 80s, but back then in Hong Kong I didn't have access to the movie, just the original soundtrack. So, the funny thing is that I knew all the songs all these years without actually seeing the movie. Now I can finally match the songs with the story. This movie was amazing! I read the comments and was worried the ending would be so disappointing and he just ends up in jail, but not so. I also love how likeable most of the characters are, and you can know how everyone is feeling. I love how realistic it was as well, and it's depiction of PTSD was really well done. I also like Jack. Just- I like him. This was such a good story, still dont quite know how it was supposed to sell beer, but it was a wonderful movie. Amazing hidden gem, 10/10
When Mike hits the triple center bars in the slot machine, I think it was more than him being detatched and unfeeling. I think he wasn't seeing 10 yen coins, but rather Mike was hallucinating them as bullet casings falling to the ground. All he saw was spent brass, and had no reason to pick up battlefield trash.
If that were the case, I'm kind of surprised he didn't freak out at the sound of them dropping. Then again it could be that he doesn't care about wealth or fortune.
Oh this is a very sad day for the entire moving viewing family at times like this I like to quench my thirst with a delicious beer there's nothing like that to wash away the sorrow
I just LOVE how seriously this movie takes itself within a grounded as nothing is too "over the top" or far-fetched despite it's cartoony artstyle, and I say this because I just LOVE how easily the script can translate into live-action if it was adapted by hollywood as the movie is more in lines with The Deer Hunter than anything else. Great emotionally powerful movie!
Thanks for uploading the full movie. I don’t know how you managed to obtain it, but holy cow, this was worth all two hours of film. I love this movie way more than I should now, I don’t even watch anime. Wish I could give awards on TH-cam, you have earned a subscriber.
There has never been a man like Jack in the history of men That part broke all immersion of this otherwise great movie Like I can't see that having happened ever in history or alternate universe 😂
I say it's a great movie, although I have two criticisms. I think it was a little too slow at times, and I think the movie should have ended with him staring at the crossroads sign. The ambiguous ending I feel would be better and more poetic than Jill randomly appearing, because the audience would lost likely make the decision that Mike turned back to Lake City as he did the last time he came to the crossroads. The fact that the library director also told him to stop traveling would have also supported this. In all though, great movie.
The slow pace is what MAKES the movie entirely so! The movie is MASSIVELY compelling throughout as the slow pace nature allows the story to breathe! And I can see where you're coming from with the whole "ambiguous ending" thing, that can work but the jill appearing to help ride with Mike also works as well!
I think the reason Jill appears at the end is because the penguins are seen together in later advertisements therefore confirming the ads take place after Penguin’s Memories.
Imagine being paid to animate a 2-hour movie about cartoon penguins in a war with fully detailed landscapes, helicopters, weapons and characters for a beer commercial
The real lesson is, when your buddy has just come home from a war... DON'T JUMP OUT AND YELL "SURPRISE!" He might spend the night trying to rock himself to sleep, bottle in hand with his back to the corner of the room. The other lesson is, don't talk about Penguin Fight Club.
well i will rate this movie as 8.5/10, because the story is so realistic, happy, and sad, the ending is great! if you didn't watch this movie, you have to watch it i recommend this movie for you!, also tbh i really enjoyed watching this movie :D! thanks for reading my review! have a nice day!

👏👏
Believe it or not, this is apparently the back story to a beer mascot 💁🏻♀️
When Mike hits the triple center bars in the slot machine, I think it was more than him being detatched and unfeeling. I think he wasn't seeing 10 yen coins, but rather Mike was hallucinating them as bullet casings falling to the ground. All he saw was spent brass, and had no reason to pick up battlefield trash.
If that were the case, I'm kind of surprised he didn't freak out at the sound of them dropping. Then again it could be that he doesn't care about wealth or fortune.

10:45 Harsh reality: penguin is a bird which can't fly 😭
"Seeking an end to his travels, the traveler sets out traveling once more. His only luggage is the setting sun"
Oh this is a very sad day for the entire moving viewing family
at times like this I like to quench my thirst with a delicious beer
there's nothing like that
to wash away the sorrow
I was born in 1993 and somehow this gave me PTSD about Vietnam
I just LOVE how seriously this movie takes itself within a grounded as nothing is too "over the top" or far-fetched despite it's cartoony artstyle, and I say this because I just LOVE how easily the script can translate into live-action if it was adapted by hollywood as the movie is more in lines with The Deer Hunter than anything else. Great emotionally powerful movie!
This is a very emotional film. I think it deserves a dub from funimation.
it REALLY does, it's just so well done!
If it does we should have Christian Bale voice Mike
@@axjagfilms YES!!
This is part of the Madagascar Penguin's origin story, and no one can tell me otherwise.
Nah. King Dedede origin story
You're right. Mike was claimed the hero, so they treat him like a king.
Uploaded 3 years ago. I remember showing this to my junior and they really thought this is Club penguin before Disney took it over.
I've finished watching this completely now, and I say it's one of the best romance stories I've ever seen,
*Literally cinema*
At the beginning I was like: "I just gonna see the war part of this".
And ended seeing the whole movie.
Yeah man...gotta be honest Mike's story is familiar to me and I'm happy it ends on a good note. This was a suprisingly deep film about penguins.
Thanks for uploading the full movie. I don’t know how you managed to obtain it, but holy cow, this was worth all two hours of film. I love this movie way more than I should now, I don’t even watch anime.
Wish I could give awards on TH-cam, you have earned a subscriber.
Thanks man
There has never been a man like Jack in the history of men
That part broke all immersion of this otherwise great movie
Like I can't see that having happened ever in history or alternate universe 😂
懐かしい!35年前2本立ての1つで観たが全然ストーリー覚えてなかった スウィートメモリーズの歌がとてもマッチした作品

I say it's a great movie, although I have two criticisms. I think it was a little too slow at times, and I think the movie should have ended with him staring at the crossroads sign. The ambiguous ending I feel would be better and more poetic than Jill randomly appearing, because the audience would lost likely make the decision that Mike turned back to Lake City as he did the last time he came to the crossroads. The fact that the library director also told him to stop traveling would have also supported this. In all though, great movie.
You do know it was for a beer commercial and it’s older

Yes we know, but a movie is still a movie.
I didn’t find the movie very slow and i thought that the ending was good, however i also think that the ending you propose is good.
This is better then most actual movies
Imagine being paid to animate a 2-hour movie about cartoon penguins in a war with fully detailed landscapes, helicopters, weapons and characters for a beer commercial
I’d honestly feel honored
oh shit 🅱lub 🅱enguin
Ah, so this is where Club Penguin originated.
Oh my god... Why a movie just to sell beer???
This is actually really good! I almost cried about Chico but that's prolly because it's 3:30 am
This is going into my memes playlist

This movie made me feel something that I’ve never felt before

This is the best damn movie I've ever watched.

I love this movie so much I bought a harmonica in the same key and love to play this sad song when I'm alone by the water.
I like to think everyone involved in making of this movie just wanted to make an anime about the Vietnam War
One thing about the two penguins is that decades afterwards they would appear in commercials again and picture books in the 2000s and merch and there are some sites that are still selling these merch rather it be plushy or digital addon.
When mike started playing the harmonica, I knew it was going to be good..
can't say this movie motivated me to buy the beer, but it was pretty good
Thanks for uploading!
