Sorry I missed you Anne and Jeff, but I have been moving for several days, and taking hikes of around 15 miles at age 69.95 years. How shall I say this Jeff, Anne is an amazing woman, and you make a great couple, there I said it. Now as for your adventure in that cave, it must have started out as being created by Native Americans, and then prospectors got involved. You both played it smart, which is wise when you go into any cave. Man that was fun. Now I rest up, organize, recover, and go hard core into Photoshop again by Friday. I can't wait for your next adventure Jeff, and do say hello to Anne for me, cause he she is the real deal pal.

I lived in the san pedro mountains just between and santa fe and there were a bunch of old mines in the area and i am quite sure that many of the shafts were pre columbian, and most of the old timers said that it was once supplying gold to montezuma. the shafts were different than the shafts of the early european miners.

I was told that about the mine in Jerome Az, that it was found to be already in existence. Close by is toozigoot, Montezumas castle and Montezumas well. And the castle and well area is pick marked with caves. Back in the early 70s we used to be able to access any caves, tunnels and even Montezumas castle. But not anymore. Plus the whole JbarJ area and Verdi valley.

In your area, I would be bringing some tech to bear on "The Beale Code".
The story is about a group going to California in the Gold Rush of 1849. They came back with pack loads of gold and silver, and hid it, before leaving for another trip to the goldfields. A trip none returned from.
They left some letters with the local store keeper, another relative. When eventually opened, they were number codes, one of which was based on the Declaration of Independence. It told about who was agreed to have certain amounts, according to their position in the company. Another, based on Little Richard's Almanac (as I recall?) described the valuables, such as pearls, silver ingots, and other valuable trade goods.
The third, which was thought to be the location, was also another cipher, though no one has found the key book to unravel it for over 173 years now.
Google The Beale Society, or Beale Code, for further rabbit holes.😎

What a neat place! Please, don't wrap the rope around your hand - you can really hurt your hand doing that if you slip and it pulls tight (learned from holding horse leads). America Unearthed on the History Channel aired an episode about this back in 2014 called Montezuma's Gold.
They said Montezuma's Mine provided clues to the actual location, and the landowner at that location said the curse is still active. He had tried in the past to drill a small hole into it, and there was gold on the drill bit when they brought it back up. But when they tried to drill a larger hole, the bit broke. Then the drill operator had a heart attack and died, and a few weeks later his wife died as well.
They also tried using ground penetrating radar, but the equipment operator became violently ill and ended up in a coma. He eventually recovered.
    It's definitely worth checking out.

Glad you were sensible and didn't go down the shaft. That was a rope, not proper spelunking gear, which is what you would need. Too many folks get in trouble with improper equipment. We love your explorations. Stay safe!

I know that was a fun adventure. I wish you would have went further into the mine. But if you are not comfortable doing it I completely understand. Thanks for showing us the ancient stuff. It is very cool. I'm watching your videos on Christmas day 2023. Merry Christmas to you and your girl!🎄
