  • We hope you enjoy exploring Ely, Cambridgeshire. Turn on captions for our Ely guided tour.
We'll walk past Ely Cathedral, it's delightful streets, shops and Oliver Cromwell's House and so see what Ely is like today. This fine, English cathedral has its origins in AD 672 when an abbey church was built. The present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted it in 1109.
This video shows the highlights of a day trip to Ely, England. This cathedral city near Cambridge has great independent shops, markets, and streets, as well as a beautiful waterfront, making it a perfect place to spend a day out in England.

What a great video! I love the silence of it. It does lend more of a being there feel to things. The transcript is also a great idea -- informative, yet not intrusive.

Ça ressemble à un petit village français par son côté medieval mais c’est typiquement anglais dans son architecture,la vie est plus concentrée au bord de l’eau un peu comme une ville plaisance et elle semble bien agréable, merci pour ce tour❤😊

Good weather, peaceful atmosphere, the cathedral looks very nice and it's interesting to watch the people of the town going about their errands. It's a bit reminiscent of a model railway. 😉
How did you keep the movement so smooth? Did you do it with a video editing program or do you have a mount for the camera?

      Thanks for dropping by JP.
So pleased you found it reminiscent of a model railway. I do love a model railway!!
Regarding the movement being smooth. In this footage used the gopro with a gimbal stabiliser for the camera. In our latest films we use the DJI pocket which has a built in stabiliser.

Thank you for this video - I am thinking of moving to Ely from the SE - going up there to visit next week. Could I trouble you with a question: are there direct trains from Ely to London or do you have to change? Thanks again.

    • @LivingWalks
      @LivingWalks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Trainline says it is possible to travel from Ely to London without having to change trains. There are 60 direct trains from Ely to London each day. Hope that's helpful.

So, obviously, you have to pay money to enter the cathedral; same thing in Salisbury and Wells, which I visited two weeks ago and they charge you 14 pouns, around 18 Euro!
Four weeks ago, I have toured France, the great cathedrals in Straßbourg, Chartres, Tours, Bourges, Auxerres, Reims and of course they are open to the public, you just enter and marvel or pray.
If daylight-robbing were not enough, in both places (Wells/Salisbury), there were dogs inside, believe or not and when I showed my astonishment about that, one of the guardians condescendingly remarked, that they are God`s creatures as well. So, next time I will take some sheep and snakes inside...
The anglospeaking world is really most reliably always the spearhead of decadence.

    • @LivingWalks

Sheep and snakes now there's an idea!! Hope you enjoyed Wells & Salisbury despite that!

I sure did, snug little places they are and the busride to Wells was especially interesting, as I have never been on a doubledecker - bus across country lanes. Looked everywhere as in the animations of "shaun the sheep".
