I'm retired now. But, back in the day. I kept 2 small wedges of timber (about 3 foot) in my side boxes. I would place them in front of the inside wheels of the tandems. This is why you train on putting on chains BEFORE each winter. Because when it happens like this, you got to know how to do it and that your equipment is working. I-70 is a pain year round... saw so many big rig accidents this year before the emergency services showed up...changes your day very quickly! I-80 is bad but the consequences are far less on any of those passes.
Out here in Washington anytime Snoqualmie or Stevens pass gets too bad with snow they end up closing them for several hours to let the plows catch up and / or do avalanche control. I work with several guys who commute over Snoqualmie pass every day at 70 to 100 miles each way every day, and a few years ago it was closed so many times that the guys probably wnded up missing close to 4 weeks worth of days between November and March due to not being able to get to work from the closures. Typically its not that bad but every few years we get snow storms that drop several feet at a time and the plows cant keep up.
Be safe there Shelby when running around the truck in low visibility conditions slippery roads in ice and snow. You're very hardworking and brave woman but safety is always first. It's good to know you have a tone of experience. Good luck in those difficult weather conditions and stay safe.

A few weeks ago we actually got a major storm from Colorado("Colorado clipper") here in saskatchewan canada and have had major melting this past week making the roads pure ice and there were quite a few jack-knifed semi trucks all over...it was insane!! You did such a great job handling the situation, keep being awesome and keep safe out there!!💕💕
Love to see you safe out there, that guy who passed on the right side of you was not okay just glad you didn’t get hurt. Not sure why CDOT was not plowing in formation, that tow plow (plow truck with a trailer) shouldn’t really be out there since you really can’t deploy it out there, the wing trucks should be enough. I’m just sad that I don’t think I’ll plow in the mountains this winter since I’ll be in the downtown area of Denver. Love your videos, stay safe and be careful out there.
Oh I wish we could get BKM to ride with you next time you do a mountain plow - that would be a video to savour! May you always have solid road under all wheels!
We never ran I-70 when bad weather was predicted. Very dangerous with vehicles passing so close while chaining. Especially that vehicle passing on the shoulder. Take care. Thank you for the video. Have a blessed day.
Great video, you are amazing. Stay safe. Keep publishing. Many, many blizzard experiences on I-70, Vail and Eisenhower pass. YOU are a hero. Thank you!
Throwing chains, my least favorite part of trucking. Glad I'm retired an don't have to do that anymore. A light load is not your friend in that kind of weather.
I pulled cryogenic tankers for my entire career. On the hills, liquid loads go to the back of the trailer, taking the weight off the drives. A crazy way to make a living.
With this being in my recommendation feed. Guess I'll pull out the chains so they'll be close by before the Northeast starts getting hit with snow storms.. stay safe everyone
You are a great person Shelby. That is some nasty snow storm crap your driving through. I’ve realized no matter the state, heavy snow usually slows traffic down to a craw.

Whoa...that was intense! Glad your safe! Winter is not a fun time of the year to drive in for anyone, but especially for truckers. A few weeks ago we actually got a major storm from Colorado("Colorado clipper") here in saskatchewan canada and have had major melting this past week making the roads pure ice and there were quite a few jack-knifed semi trucks all over...it was insane!! I have a high respect for truckers and applaude you all for fighting the elements in winter and you are such a wonderful person to help others out while trying to get yourself situated also and I really hope others learn from you to help each other out there on the road!
This music definitely had my heart racing
Times like these are tough when you're in the moment, but they do make for a heck of an adventure to look back on later.
Just watching the first few minutes.... Heart- attack by the mile
Man, this was better than any action film. I was on the edge of my drivers seat.
You're sarcastic right?
ITS A DRAG CHAIN, THATS WHAT THEY CALLED IT WHEN I WAS OUT THERE. YOUR DOING A FINE JOB.
I agree with your comment 100% Steven.
Agreed I'll run as close to 34000 as I can who cares what on the trailer Axel's I like being heavy on the drives in the winter
I pulled cryogenic tankers for my entire career. On the hills, liquid loads go to the back of the trailer, taking the weight off the drives. A crazy way to make a living.
Yeah but a light load is not your enemy either he can help you too it’s kind of a 50-50 thing
Thanks for the all great comments and stay safe and I love your video and I love your truck nice job
Pullin those light trailers are problems for your drives on ice.
One thing is for sure… there is nothing small about you! You get down and dirty just like a man does and get er done! You got my respect Mrs Shelby!🙏
That look like a mess you should slow down a little running on snow and ice isn't good you could fall and get hurt we don't want that
Was thinking the same, she needs to slow down, I guess she is in a rush, but thats specially when accidents tend to happen.
She was too stressed. Did too many things wrong or the hard way.
Its that time running in winter.. Same here...Stay safe out there..
"""Tires melt in to the road""" 😅😅😅
Respect young lady!!.. Stay safe out there, the winter is just starting....
That intro gave me so much anxiety !!!!
Stay safe out there !
Shelby is the best. Look at her always worried about someone other than herself
7:18 Good job 😂
Shelby is awesome!
That music in the background made this very intense. Thought I was watching a thriller movie
I will never pull wiggle wagons, especially with an automatic in snow.
I used to pull wiggle wagons, but grain trailers at 105,500 pounds
@@michaelc9128 105,500 lbs on single axle A trains? I doubt that. With that kinda weight, and being grain trailers, I'm guessing you were pulling B trains and not single axle.
Any professional trucki will tell you, if you cannot chain up in a chain area, bring your rig to a stop with the trailer slightly askew, never straight, protect yourself
Start carrying a bucket or two of cat litter or floor dry. Does wonders.
I've also found that poultry grit works great!
@Terry Nice video How are you doing
Hope we get to know each other with time and patience?
@@lydiaanderson9765 fuck off spammer
Thx for showing the nitty gritty. I'm going to be going out with a mentor in a week or so and appreciate the heads up.
Hey Shelby how’s it going ? Trucking is very scary in the wintertime
Drove through there on our way to snow board this past weekend and as a fellow truck driver I could only watch and pray for those truckers. I drive in the winter in Colorado but the mountains are a different story🥶
Dang ! Spun out, and not even to Georgetown hill yet . 7:12 - asshole 4 wheeler ! You ran by my house at mm100
