At that point in the competition it's the mistakes that stand out rather than the successes
Mhm, time pressure is a big factor in these elimination challenges, though I honestly think Keagan was at a disadvantage seeing as he doesn't consider himself a good baker. But even so that's part of the competition.

They're finicky only if you want perfect domes, if you just want a good dessert I say ignore perfection, they will actually turn much better BECAUSE the imperfections will lead to different textures
I am in pastry for 3 years now, and based on what I saw here I realy doubt they made the contenders make the macarons them selfs. I see alot of difference between what they started with and what they ended with, one of the contenders even had less macarons in the oven from what he presented at the end. Its understandable they went that road, considering macarons are not something an average cook will be able do at all.
I gave up on trying for the perfect looking after I did some research on traditional macarons and realise that back in the day bakers went for flavour rather than perfectly shapes.
What did you struggle with? I’ve only made macarons once but I found it pretty simple as long as you follow the recipe. I did exactly as the recipe said and they turned out perfectly.

This would be sooo stressful! For those that don't know, Macarons are one of the HARDEST pastries to make. Sooo much can go wrong and so easily. Trying to do this under a strict time limit is very challenging, they need time and precision.
If you're a pastry chef and have a bakery or in a competition, Yes it was difficult because macarons was finnicky as hell. But if you just a normal homecook, you can try Adam Regusea methods of not giving a f*ck about perfection and have the "imperfect" macaron which basically taste the same.

I've made macarons before and I really need those template mats. All my macarons are so many sizes that they'd never fit in a standard macaron box 😂 my coworkers and family loved them though thankfully.
I suggest you try to google “Macaroon Template” and then print them out. Once you got it, you put it below your parchment paper when you pipe the batter, and then take out the “template” before you put it in the oven. Hope this help☺️

It’s either because the American judges want the best chefs they can find, the ones who can cook in extreme environments or it’s for the show to be more interesting, more nerve racking and exciting in a way. I kinda like both versions better because they both have their own thing, like the American version is a bit more fun and exciting to watch. It leaves you on the edge, while the other versions are much calmer and nicer. It’s nice if I wanted to watch something that doesn’t raise my heart rate up and want to see some heartwarming scenes.
To be pedantic, it’s a show about being a Chef, which goes beyond just cooking. Presentation, time management, etc. That’s why they have these challenges, because if it were only about cooking, then it would be no different than the other cooking shows on The Food Network
