Later on I remember there was a community effort to emulate the game in the highest quality possible and record the cutscenes, and if I'm not mistaken, it's that effort that unleashed the high quality cutscenes onto TH-cam that you'll find today if you search. But yeah, in the very early years, it was only the intros and outros, and those were the ones that became iconic because of it. Plenty other people a couple years after used middle cutscenes, but by then they weren't cemented in memory like the others were.
This would explain why King Harkinian is the most popular of these Zelda CD-i characters, despite only having 8 lines between the two games (only 2 of which in Faces of Evil).

Like, the character designs are mostly awful but you can clearly tell a lot of effort went into the graphics. It's not actually that bad, other than gameplay disconnects like inability to tell what's a ledge and what's not. That's the tragedy of these shit-ass games, whoever made them worked hard on them, and they were still horrifyingly bad.
Here's the insane thing about Zelda CDI that no one seems to have given credit for: I'm actually convinced that the game's screens are hand-painted. Look at the backgrounds and the textures. I'd also love to see if they line up with the overworld map 1/1, because that would confirm it in my eyes. For a game as jank and often memed as this, some genuine effort in the line of art went into it.

Something about the Zelda CDi games being improved is awesome, yet feels off at the same time. The improved gameplay mixed with the still uncanny animation just makes it more interestingly surreal.
