Thanks, Brian. Happy to report my PC has none of these problems. I keep it in tip-top shape. So I went and turned off windows updates and uninstalled the last update and my computer is back to running like it came back from the factory. Since 95 I've often wondered if the updates intentionally slowed down computers so people would be forced into buying a new computer. They always claim they're doing security updates, yet who here has ever been hacked without clicking on a link, just being on the internet? Who here has actually had their system taken over without first clicking on a bogus link? Not me. I think the security they're talking about is their own financial security needs updated so they slow your computer down just so you'll buy another, hence giving them more financial security.

My 4790k doesnt seem to get slow, this is why I havent updated it, but even though its less of an issue with SSD's I cant break the habit of 'separation of data' to keep fragmentation down , it also pays dividends at backup and restore time or in the event of a problem with a partition as it limits what you lose access too, also I stop things running at startup that I dont use, this has been a problem since win95, a trick I have been using for 20+ year is using a swapfile of a fixed size - this keeps it contiguous so it will run quicker as ir prevents it expanding and contracting on the media causing lots of fragmentation as it goes, this was done only after a baseline was done with perfmon over the course of a week to monitor my resource usage and added an extra 20% then rounded up to the nearest multiple of 2
