This might cause some confusion because 2 days after this video came out, Elektron released firmware updates for both Digitakt and Digitone where the Audio Routing options for USB Audio were moved to SETTINGS > AUDIO ROUTING menu
This is gamechanger. I have Roland tr-8s and Roland J6 but there is no option to add another synth simultaneously in this way and record all of them in one session. Awesome. Thats why I'm turning into elektron world
Actually you can. Simply create an aggregated device in your computer that combines the TR8s and the J6. In your DAW, use the aggregated device for input (optionally for output). I have a TR8s and a Digitone and it works: 11 channels for each TR8s track + 4 for each Digitone track.
This is excellent, straight to the point. I already set things up, but I’m looking around TH-cam for OB/sync/practical recording/arranging tips for an OB hybrid setup! Hope you do more videos! Subbed.
Extremely helpful video. Is it possible to route the audio from the novation peak into the Digitone inputs and create a separate track for it on Ableton? That way even the Peak can be routed into the Digitone and would essentially have no need for an audio interface? New to all of this!
Yes you can route an external instrument's inputs (Peak) into Digitone and have Overbridge send audio to your DAW. Digitone can send all 4 stereo tracks and the stereo inputs via Overbridge.
Thanks for the video, very helpful ! Unfortunately, I have a huge latency when I record them. I have to do track by track and rewarp them. Any idea to go more efficient ?? Thank you !
With the new updates allowing the digital and ringtone to act as a mixed for external gear can you track these new effected tracks separately with overbridge as well? Or is this another can we have please function?
Well done. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed. I would be interested in a video showing how to use the Digitakt to sequence your Peak, using an external midi keyboard to input notes. I have a Moog Minitaur on the way, and I’m hoping to have my Digitakt control it.
Very usefull ! I have another question though. I would like to know how to route midi notes from Ableton to each 4 tracks of the Digitone. Can I do that with only one MIDI track with Overbridge? Or should I use 4 seperates midi tracks? Thanks!
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm trying to understand how to have the tracks be in sync with Ableton's clock so that I don't have to edit/warp each individual track after recording. I want to have my tracks recording be in sync with Ableton's timeline, more automatically, in other words? Is this not possible? I'm using the Analog Keys, but I figure this should be more or less the same. Ableton is suggesting, via a dialog box that opens when you open the Overbridge plugin in Ableton, that you sync your device to Ableton via OB. I'm having latency issues and I think the solution might involve setting "latency delay compensation" amounts in Ableton? But I'm not sure if this is correct or how exactly to do this. thanks!
Nevermind! I realized i needed to assign individual track inputs from the Analog Keys plugin track, not the device tracks. That put things much more in sync, but weirdly now the AK tracks are coming in a few ms ahead, in Ableton. (maybe over-compensation by Ableton?)
@@alejo3454 Yeah; on your Digi go to Audio Routing and Disable Route to Main for all Tracks (not the FX) this will send the FX to your 9th track in Ableton, under Post FX/

6:00 - It's not "post-fx" as in post fx from the digitone's effects. It's post fx within Ableton if you happened to have effects on the Ableton Overbridge track you're using. Choosing "Post FX" at 6:10 does nothing in terms of wet/dry from the output of the Digitone.
Do the left and right outputs have to be plugged in or does the sound go through usb. Can I just have my Mac and my two machines and usb cables is what I mean..😄
Thank you for the great video. I keep wondering why one wouldn’t simply record each track separately via the post mixer. You would just need to mute the other channels and record the tracks one by one. That way, each track would have the effects and mastering from the machine, and you wouldn’t have to record each track individually plus the FX channel. Are there any known issues with my approach? I’d appreciate any feedback :)
This just do not work with my AR mkI ... no sound on the individual tracks. Trying every now and then since 2 years without any success. I tried everything. Anyone with the same problem?
Hey I'm currently using this set up with my digitakt and modular. I noticed using the external input mixer on digitakt if i add delay or reverb to it, it doesn't seem to pick it up in the post mixer channel. Is there something im doing wrong?
Hello, thanks for the video. I hope my question is not stupid. Im considering buying a digitakt. At the moment recording my synthesizers through my soundcraft mtk 12. Is it possible to multitrack record from two sources? I use cubase 10 btw. So could I use my soundcraft interface/mixer to record synthesizers and att the same time mtk record from the digitakt via usb? Thanks in advance
Hi and great question! Yes you can use Overbridge to stream the individual tracks from Digitakt and also use your audio interface as a source for monitoring and recording other instruments.
Hi Any chance you could update this with the new Elektron updates? I have set up my Tone and Takt like you have but in Ableton Overbrindge to the right of 100% mine doesnt say Digitone or Syntakt like yours do it says Please select device but they arent listed.
Looks good, thanks! Do you know how to record midi cues for pattern changes into ableton clips so that they can be triggered with my scene changes. When I do it it always misses the first beat/bar as pattern change needs to happen just before the bar??
Thanks for tutorial, really helpful. Quick question - and sorry if missed something, but in this example did you have to set either of the Elektron devices as the audio interface to get the audio in or are you using a different device and overbridge handles it all? Thanks!
@@ElektronVideoKlub the only way i can get audio to record into ableton is to switch the audio interface to my digitakt in preferences. when i use my scarlett 18i20 audio interface, no sound. overbridge is picking up the tracks from Digitakt (i can see the tracks playing in overbrige) but its not coming through my speakers or recording into ableton unless I switch to digitakt audio interface. Any thoughts? I'm confused.
Hi, it's quite important for me before the decision : does it act, when in overbridge mode, like an audio interface? I heard I cannot have two interfaces working the same time on Win PC..
You do not have to have assign your Elektron machine as an audio interface to use Overbridge. You can use your standard audio interface and Overbridge can still record audio over USB.
This is a very succinct an accurate guide. What I would like help with is latency concerns. I have a similar setup of DT/DN/Peak, and my Peak will be a little bit offset from the recorded Overbridge tracks. I am sure it is just due to more Digital/Audio conversions, but any help would be appreciated!

I can't find meaning in using boxes and then using ableton. Why not just do everything in ableton. What makes electron editing better than ableton? Editing in the box is limited in all directions so I don't understand why? if everbridge transmitted everything 1: 1 even with the effects for the given channel then I understand that but if it transmits a dry signal then it is easier to do everything in daw. I only work cleanly with Eboxes. That's why I'd be interested. thanks
Thanks for this! Im trying to use my Analog Heat via Overbridge, but the most I can seem to do is just slap it on the Master channel. How can I get more out of it ?
I don't have a soundcard yet, I wanted to use the audio interface of my computer with overbridge… but there are too many latencies… What would you recommend to buy to get the lowest latency if I want to record the 12 individual outs and the 2 stereo FX output ? Is a Scarlett Solo good enough for example ?
I would just rely on the digitone as an interface, it allows you to capture all the tracks through usb. If you wanted to get an interface for running the digitone through you’d need more inputs, like 8-10 depending on if you want the master as well.

On TRACK 1 i`m gonna hear the dry sound but on the POST FX track i will hear the same sound but delayed. Is this how its supposed to work? Thanks alot for your help. Best regards from Warsaw
The idea here is you can record the FX track and the dry track without FX and then it is up to you to decide where to take it from there. So if you like the FX track in your project, keep it. But if for instance you had too much or not enough delay effect or you wanted to process the dry track with a different FX chain, you have the option in your session.
