Elektron Analog Four MKII - How to Send the Sequencer's MIDI Out
thank you!!
Loved this jam
nice one mate, I was apprehensive about tackling this but you've made it nice and easy 👍great demo and explanation, many thanks!
hi! could you please tell how did you split the MIDI out cable?
Thank you
Thank you for the great video. I keep wondering why one wouldn’t simply record each track separately via the post mixer. You would just need to mute the other channels and record the tracks one by one. That way, each track would have the effects and mastering from the machine, and you wouldn’t have to record each track individually plus the FX channel. Are there any known issues with my approach? I’d appreciate any feedback :)
It works as long as you don't want to record a more organic performance and don't want to do too much editing in post
Very usefull ! I have another question though. I would like to know how to route midi notes from Ableton to each 4 tracks of the Digitone. Can I do that with only one MIDI track with Overbridge? Or should I use 4 seperates midi tracks? Thanks!
4 separate tracks needed. Each feeding into another Digitone midi channel
Thanks a lot! 🥳
Finally someone that knows how to use this thing for the type of music that I make.. sigh, thanks!
Wait. But can you sequence the Peak polyphonically this way? I was kinda hearing a chord there. Or was it some oscillator tuned?
This is gamechanger. I have Roland tr-8s and Roland J6 but there is no option to add another synth simultaneously in this way and record all of them in one session. Awesome. Thats why I'm turning into elektron world
Actually you can. Simply create an aggregated device in your computer that combines the TR8s and the J6. In your DAW, use the aggregated device for input (optionally for output). I have a TR8s and a Digitone and it works: 11 channels for each TR8s track + 4 for each Digitone track.
You really should do a comprehensive how to connect external intstruments to the A4.. your missing alot more info
AWESOME, Awesome ... 😍🤩🥰🤪
Very f.. good live performance. Respect
Thanks for making this! Well done!
Another one that is crazy overpriced - I'd rather have a deepmind, 2.5k AUD in my pocket and 3x the polyphony. I honestly prefer my DSI Tetras to this elektron, and I have two of those chained for 8 poly. I just am not hearing anything special here at all for nearly 4 thousand Australian dollars. The world has gone mad.
It would be really perfect if it was able to sequence CC as well 😪
ive had the cycles for a bit now and just looking to user the sequencing for the first time, that little arp you setup is epic, would be good to see that broken down your hands were too quick
I can’t wait to try this with Hydrasynth
Can you use note slide and accent level or is it disabled when sequencing externals?
Hi! I want to connect the Behringer TD3 and the Volca Keys. They both got midi channel number 1. How do I connect the two without them producing the same patterns?
Change the channel on either td3 or keys. It’s not fixed to channel 1. Normally it sticks between on/off though so you usually just need to do it one time. how you do it varies, even between volcas but it’s always possible. Can’t remember keys presses of the top of my head. I think td3 might be slightly easier (no reboot).
The video quality !!!!
Nice Vide. THANKYOU. Can you explain how the midi thru box is connected in this setup please?
I'm sure you found the answer in the many months since you left this question, but that Midi Thru box is a super simple splitter. Just connect a midi cable from the "Out" of the sequencer into the single "In" at the top of the box. Then you can plug multiple devices into the ports at the bottom of the box. They will all carry the exact same midi data, so just choose different midi channels for each device. *I believe the only possible drawback to this simple splitter design is that it doesn't require an external power source, which is convenient, but may weaken the strength of the signal. I have heard that this may cause issues with some devices, although I have never encountered a problem.
Sounds good.
How are you setting up the whole thing? I'm trying to sequence Koala on my Syntakt, and while I can get the Syntakt pads to play Koala's samples, I can't get the sequencer to trigger Koala's samples and when I press play it tries to play Koala's own recorded sequences instead.
Will the FX save if the analog heat is not connected? As in the next time you open the project in ableton without the heat being turned on
would be great to see a tutorial how you made those macros!
great stuff! any trouble with latency or with audio levels?
Excellent video, extremely helpful. Would it be possible to connect a controller keyboard to the midi in on the Digitakt and use this to play in notes into the sequencer instead of the buttons the Digitakt itself? Also, as there is only 4 note polyphony would it be possible to set an external synth like the pro 800 to 2 different midi channels so it could play the full 8 notes of polyphony from the Digitakts sequencer? Thanks for any help.
Yes, you can record notes into the DT sequencer from a MIDI keyboard, just configure your keyboard to send MIDI notes to the DT 's "auto" channel (as set by you in the "MIDI Channels" page on the DT). Yes, you can set as many of the DT's eight MIDI tracks to the same MIDI channel as you like, meaning you could in theory be sending up to 4 x 8 = 32 notes to the same synth at once; hopefully it has enough polyphony to play all of them, otherwise some will be ignored.
Thanks. Now we have the version 2 so I am assuming this the same but double the polyphony?
@@abrokenframe82 no idea, sorry, I only have the DT 1. You'd have to read the DT 2 manual.
if i have to buy one first, which one, i have no drum machine at the moment, just other synths and ableton
Hi! Is A4 sending the _polyphonic_ MIDI out by DIN5 to any capable synth? I was trying to record chords on some T-track of A4 mk2 (internally in a pattern) to sequence my Microfreak. But seems that by some reason it was putting only single notes in a sequence for one track. Is there some "secret" setting to do this? BTW I was playing on Microfreak via MIDI using A4 keyboard and it was sending multiple notes without a problem. This makes me think that I'm doing something wrong.
Thank you, appreciate the info and the quality of the presentatiom. Something so simple but I was messing around for ages trying to get it work before I found this video.
subbed
i feel like Elektron hired someone to just sabotage the usability and make it totally bizarro and menu divey also f this arpeggiator - its totally unconnected to Midi out. Also you cant overdub record the sequencer? So if you lay down one sound for a basskick then putting in a snare will overwrite it unless you do finger gymnastics in step record
Well, it is four monophonic tracks, so yes, you can only have one sound on one step per track.
Thanks for this roundup. I didn't know about the randomize parameters. Wonder if it will work on my Analog Keys (seems like it will since it's not marked as A4mk2 specific). Some future topic suggestions (since you asked): I'd love more tutorial videos, especially for efficient/creative workflows, including integrating a DAW (especially Ableton) into workflows, especially beyond the absolute basics. designing kits+patterns for dynamic/expressive live performance in mind; interfacing in a multidevice live-setup (I appreciated your video about using the A4's midi out features with external gear). Finally, backup procedures to a computer? It's a weirdly boring request/question, but since Elektron shelved their C6 software, there's no great way I've found to back up projects/kits/patterns/sounds on MacOS. "SyxEx Librarian" app is what other users recommended, but I can't get it to successfully receive files that the AK will then understand. thanks again for the excellent videos!
their new software "Transfer" seems only to be one-way (from computer to device), which may be fine for OS updates, but doesn't seem to let us offload device data (eg projects) for backup. It's weird that they haven't built that functionality into Overbridge, since it's an editor that's kinda a librarian.
Thanks for this helpful video! I'm trying to understand how to have the tracks be in sync with Ableton's clock so that I don't have to edit/warp each individual track after recording. I want to have my tracks recording be in sync with Ableton's timeline, more automatically, in other words? Is this not possible? I'm using the Analog Keys, but I figure this should be more or less the same. Ableton is suggesting, via a dialog box that opens when you open the Overbridge plugin in Ableton, that you sync your device to Ableton via OB. I'm having latency issues and I think the solution might involve setting "latency delay compensation" amounts in Ableton? But I'm not sure if this is correct or how exactly to do this. thanks!
Nevermind! I realized i needed to assign individual track inputs from the Analog Keys plugin track, not the device tracks. That put things much more in sync, but weirdly now the AK tracks are coming in a few ms ahead, in Ableton. (maybe over-compensation by Ableton?)
THANK YOU!
looking into one of these but am shit at piano. thanks for posting.
Thank you!
Nice we’re do you find most of your sounds to play ;) ❤
What input you plug guitar into digitone ? How did you activate it in settings on digitone?
Nice to see an instructional video done properly :)
how to you get around with the pad sensitivity? mines are really tough to press
Bro.... Was that Chrono Trigger sound effects I hear in the intro?
can you please help I'm not seeing the signal come through on the plug on the plug-in or the machine through the in and out I had it connected the same way I just rebooted my computer I mean just open my computer and started to try to start a new project with the same settings And it's just I'm not seeing it the signal go through the in and out If you can understand what I'm saying
Damn I wanna use this next to the mpc one so bad
It it possible with an external keyboard synth, to alternate between using it to play audio samples 1-8 on AutoChannel, and then back to playing the actual sounds on the keyboard itself?
Nice work - thank you so much
Awesome video. Reminds of the Sorcerer's OST
Thanks a lot for the tutorial!!!
i cant figure out on how to record the individual tracks with the effects on. i only get dry version
