We are removing invasive Lionfish in Boynton Beach, Florida!

- Our nonprofit removes around 100 Lionfish every time we go out on the boat on average! This 100 fish would end up eating 5 million reef fish in their lifetime. So every trip we end up saving 5 million reef fish from being victims of this invasive species. Not to mention they would lay millions and millions of eggs which would then produce more and more lionfish! So we try to remove as many as we can in the areas that we can get to. Every time they come back in from the deep we are there to apprehend them Before they cause more damage. Watch our channel and learn more about this devastating species here in the US, and throughout the Caribbean. Thank you for your support! Watch for more!! #lionfish #spearfishing #invasive #diving #aqualung #gopro #halcyondivesystems #lec #ocean #showusyourzk
Even the dolphins stopped by to thank you for the good work you are doing. :)
It was pretty cool they rarely let you see them
Mesmerizing. And all the good you're doing is uplifting. These lionfish are a huge growing ecological problem
Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoy the videos. We appreciate your support.❤
Thank you for what you are doing! Keep up the great work! I hope you are feeling better!
Great footage of a very noble quest. The problem is stark. If we don't kill them off they will take out all your natural indigenous fish.
Godspeed to you from someone thousands of miles away but used to live nearby in Delray. The work you're doing is so appreciated!
"If the other half goes, now we're in trouble...". got me. Lol Thanks for the video and helping our fisheries.
Very interesting learning some new things about lion fish and watching then get 'removed'. Thanks for the video :o)
Wonderful video and commentary 👍🏻👍🏻
If you can find lionfishes that are actively avoiding you , greater importance must be given to catch that fish, because their decedents will become harder to catch.
Doing excellent work. My compliments!
Excellent narration plus you going good work. Thank you.
Thank you kindly!
Thanks for all the good work!
Keep up the good work. Thanks for doing it.
Nice video and great service to the ocean, new sub!
Nice content and video quality keep it coming. Also nice that beautiful fish are not immediately killed/captured
This is great work you are doing! I will happily donate!
Much appreciated!
There are so many lion fish!! I’m thankful that people are working to get rid of them.
❤❤❤❤
Nice job!
Cheers from Cayman
Thank you! Cheers!
We went to Cayman Brac the other day. They wouldn’t let me hunt them, but I could help out at least.
I got my certification done while I was there so next time I can do it
Oh, you aint getting rid of those things!!
Very interesting. I'm glad that you are doing something about the problem with Lionfish.
Thank you!
👏👏👏Thank you
Happy hunting !!!
keep doing a good job and have fun.
🤔
Awesome work! I live in Boca and dive all these areas. Nitrox cert.
Just looked t up. Apparently female lionfish lay eggs every three days, as opposed to reef fish that spawn once a year. That's why they're able to take over to easily and why the eradication has to take place on a very regular basis!
Yes, fortunately all of those eggs don’t become Lionfish otherwise we’d have a larger problem. It’s already big enough ha ha.😊
I love you and your organization oh we need that so much thank you for all that you do I hope that you're able to feed the meat to animals or humans I hear the lionfish is very delicious
Someday, I hope sooner than later, I will be going back to Florida to visit. I am making it a point to find a restaurant that serves lionfish. I’ve been told the very good eating. This is a very very good thing, it acts as a second incentive on spearfishing them. Earn a little money on the side and get rid of invasive fish or at the very least control the numbers.
That’s awesome! We take it to the next level and we don’t hunt anything but Lionfish😊
Good work! I saw one show that they removed some too and had a pretty good cook fix some up said they were pretty good. As a way to get them removed by showing they’re kind of tasty.
For sure I will post more videos on here. I usually use TikTok but now I’m starting to go to TH-cam.😊
I went to Fiji to see Lionfish, my next dive was U-352 and there were more Lionfish there than i saw in 10 days in the Pacific :(
Went to a Jupiter DM's for dinner. She served up a plate of Lionfish. My wife watched everyone else eat them first to see if we died.
Now she tells everyone how good the taste :)
That’s awesome. We just went to the Philippines and I only saw two or three red lion fish there the whole time it’s pretty crazy.
Ha ha that’s great they belong in Fiji. They are totally at home there. They have many different species but here we have two species that look alike and they are both very invasive and the warranty here until 1985.
We have the invasion of the Lion Fish in the meantime also in the Mediterranean See. From east HOTSPOT until the west side. In Cypress was the first Hotspot. Also here are the fishes in restaurants available. The fish 👅 fantastic 🤤
I’m glad they are combating them. We definitely need to keep them at Bay as much as we can.
These invasive fish are edible (and supposedly delicious)... Looking forward to seeing them on menus 🤤
We sell them to a restaurant called Lionfish, modern coastal cuisine in Delray Beach when we can get enough
Very entertaining while high as a kite
😂😂😂
Do the trigger fish hunt lionfish on their own?
No, they don’t. They are more of a scavenger.
How mobile are the lion fish? Are the lion fish back if you swim the same route after a month or two?
They do mosey in overtime. It depends on the weather underwater if there is a upwelling and cold water pushes in from the deep, it can bring with it more Lionfish a lot quicker. But if the water stays the same temperature, it takes a long time for them to come in even months.
Link to donation site??
Interesting to see the smaller specimens. If you are being effective you should start to see the size of the lionfish you kill reducing as more of the breeding adults are removed from the population.
Yes, that is definitely the case. We are seeing much smaller fish in general. That’s why I like. Going down to areas where we usually don’t go so we can get the larger ones as well. We do kill everything we see only Lionfish and every Lionfish.
I hear they're good to eat and a few restaurants are beginning to offer them.
Yes, we sell them to a restaurant called Lionfish modern coastal cuisine in Delray Beach
Why aren't they being marketed ?
If the meat is good & we're looking to get rid of them - that would be the quickest way. No?
What's the "catch"/ legalities?
Do you know if lionfish are a problem in 🇦🇺
And if so is it difficult to set up a non profit organisation to fish for these everyday?
They are not invasive in Australia. They are perfectly in check with the environment where they are originating from which is all of Oceana, which includes Australia. Our nonprofit only gets to go out probably once a week it’s a lot of work and sometimes we go out multiple times, but usually the weather holds us back along with lack of Lionfish if you hit them too often, but we have a good system going. They are now invasive in the Mediterranean along with some other places they’re not supposed to be as well.😢
There are so many of them even just one location. They defiantly need to be removed where that usually don't belong.
lots of videos of lionfish control , does anyone know if its helping? has it impacted the population of this invasive species?
A lot of people are hunting the Lionfish, and if they weren’t there would be Lionfish literally everywhere, so we are making a big difference. Keeping them under control. They definitely harm the local ecosystem where they are invasive. Along with overfishing Lionfish have replaced predators here and have become the main predator in our waters but as long as we slow them down, that is not the case.
do you think that their numbers is going down?
Most definitely if it weren’t for people doing this, there would be so many Lionfish it would be ridiculous but humans have kept the numbers down drastically
The lion fish is poisonous but the meat they say it should be delicious? I never tested so I don't know!
Thanks for the video.
It's essentially a grouper
Taste like lobster. Sweet taste.
Yes, it is very good meat and it’s actually not poisonous only venomous so there’s nothing you have to watch out for other than getting poked
How much per pound are the fish markets and restaurants paying for lionfish in 2024? Any idea?
In Cuba they are teaching sharks to eat the lion fish. Sharks can eat them no problem. Look it up.
First of all, we’ve killed most of our small reef sharks. In Cuba they have a protected area that has a lot of sharks that hunt in packs because they are very plentiful. We have solitary sharks here and they will not touch them while alive and feeding these sharks is very dangerous. It can make them aggressive and it’s not worth it, I admire my hands. 😂❤
Are they kosher?
I’m not sure, but I would assume so
2:33 The coronet fish change color! The lose their stripes for a short while.
They must look nice in a controlled fish tank environment.
Yes, they are very pretty but sometimes they eat all of the fish in someone’s tank once they become big and then people make the foolish mistake of putting them in the ocean, rather than giving them back to a fish store
Yes, but Whole Foods charges an arm and a leg for these fillets in Clearwater Tampa. Rip off
They are very expensive to collect so the price has to be higher
Why not leave the dead/dying lion fish behind to feed the reef critters?
Many many reasons, one of them being we sell them to recover some of the cost and it's dangerous for the diver and for the other fish to accidentally eat them backwards takes too much time, etc. etc.
Do you feed these lion fish to something?
Humans
A man. Sweeping the beach.
I guess you're riding a scooter (background electric motor?)
Why not leaving them as food for other fish after spearing ?
Many many reasons, one of them being we sell them to recover some of the cost and it’s dangerous for the diver and for the other fish to accidentally eat them backwards takes too much time, etc. etc.
They say the lion fish is very good to eat
Why are the Lionfish there? How did they end up being where they shouldn’t be
Some idiot democrat put a few in the Caribbean.
I know you already got a reply but TH-cam isn't showing it to me. So, in case they didn't tell you, they were introduced by "exotic pet" type aquarium people when they wanted to get rid of them.
Be fascinating if some predator fish developed the means and taste for lionfish.
IDK how much of an anomaly this might be but::: th-cam.com/video/o5pwoha2-t8/w-d-xo.html
And other places where they are native sharks will eat them, but they only eat them because they are hunting in packs and competition is there. Our sharks don’t hunt like that if we had a large population of black tips, they might possibly do that but we have overfished.
If you want subscribers and likes you have to answer these comments. If you don't. You are only utilizing half the use of video. Think about it what's the point. I like what you are doing. I love to dive but I am land locked in Missouri. I would definitely Help . Would also like to try reef restoration. Plant a couple corals.
Right now I am growing my TikTok and it’s a lot of work. I have 270,000 subscribers over there or followers I should say so I just don’t have the time to do everything. I also owned a tattoo shop and I’m there full-time so this is putting me past my breaking point, but you are correct. This would definitely help to answer all of these questions and I am trying, butI’m stretched pretty thin❤
@@Lionfish_Extermination_CorpI just added to the load sorry brother. I layed in about a half dozen questions. Don't want to bother you. I love diving and the videos. keep it up was a great video. thank you for the response
Some guys don't respond at all. Your doing better than most. If you reply to some when it comes out it should be all Good. Every one is impossible.
@@Lionfish_Extermination_Corp
Why do you remove the fish once it's dead I don't understand that it's a free meal for other marine animals please someone explain I know they have toxins in their spine....
Many many reasons, one of them being we sell them to recover some of the cost and it's dangerous for the diver and for the other fish to accidentally eat them backwards takes too much time, etc. etc.
There are black and white ones, I had both in my 55 gallon aquarium..
Unfortunately you can't stop them...
No, we will never kill every single Lionfish that is not the point but if no one hunted these, there would literally be thousands everywhere and no other fish. Thankfully there are very few Lionfish because of humans effort.
Since lionfish do not have natural predators why don't you just dump them on the bottom after killing them and let other fish eat them instead of taking them home? Perhaps that would teach some other's to become a predator.
I know they are delicious when prepared by someone who knows what they are doing?
Do you sell the catch, or donate it?
We sell them to a restaurant to recover some of the money but the smaller ones we clean as well they only want the big ones at the restaurant
Nice 🤙🏼💚🏵️. Glad they might have found the idiot that introduced them
I don't think you make your point that there invasive that dirt don't belong here they're not they don't belong here so you have to exterminate them
I do a lot of videos, and I don’t want to say the exact same thing in every video. It gets daunting. Check out my TikTok. I have a lot more videos on there. I’m trying to expand my TH-cam.
Seems a shame to just kill them and get rid of them. Why not catch and sell them to people. Lionfish are wanted by many people in the aquarium trade.
You know that's how the things ended up where they don't belong, right?
There are far too many to do that first of all second of all it would cost thousands and thousands of dollars to get that sort of operation running third they are actually illegal to sell here in Florida fourth that’s a whole Nother life worth of work five we sell them for food so they get used. Six this is much faster and more efficient, if you’re trying to remove large amounts of them and make a difference, there are several others but I’ll stop there
Wow y’all really happy he killing to just kill. Not to sale not to eat. Killing a animal to save a animal… just Sad 😢
Why on earth do you think I’m not selling these for food? Assuming makes an ass out of you have you heard that before?
People that post rude comments about things they don’t know make me think that they are quite sad.
@@Lionfish_Extermination_Corp I know more than u think I know. I know why you really killing animals. It’s to save the ecosystem. But your not god and god has made his decision and it’s finale. Your just killing to be killing. Can’t stop the unstoppable!!
Maybe tell the "Gov" that they are "woke" and you can get some state money.
That’s kind of weird
@@Lionfish_Extermination_Corp It was a joke. Or not.
You said lion fish have no natural predators and then showed them being fed to triggerfish which completely contradicts your first statement.
Also I know from experience owning and servicing many aquariums that triggerfish do have a method of hunting Live Lionfish.
Usually the trigger will suck their eyes out first so they can’t see, then they will eat around the venomous spines. They do this with fox face rabbit fish too.
They may not have a lot of predators but triggerfish are absolutely a natural predator.
The triggerfish will EAT them but trhey don't have the capacity to KILL them then EAT them.
@@JBliehall I just explained how triggerfish hunt live lionfish. I’ve seen them hunt them many times in the saltwater aquarium hobby. I literally own a massive Saktwater aquarium business kid.
@@lagunamusic7686 You see them hunt in aquariums where they can't get away, or in the wild?
@@barbarapeterson4000 lionfish are extremely slow, it wouldn’t matter if it was a 100 gallon, 1000 gallons or the ocean. If a triggerfish is chasing a lionfish it’s not getting away.
Also I go scuba diving many times a year in the keys volunteering with the coral restoration foundation to restore the reef in the Florida keys. So I’m extremely familiar both in the wild and in aquariums.
What’s your experience????
@@lagunamusic7686 I have no experience. I was asking for more info. Which you provided. ; )
Don't let the vegans see you doing this! And no one with a house cat better complain. Lion fish have nothing on house cats when it comes to destructive invasive species! House cats are far and away the worst invasive species mankind has unleashed on the environment!
Actually, I do this because I have been vegan for 20 years. if someone has half a brain cell, they understand that this animal needs to be killed rather than kill everything else. But some people still don’t understand ha ha.😂 I will eat Lionfish occasionally but other than that I’m a strict Vegan.

On this side of the state, you only have to go a short distance out depending on where you’re at. Out of Jupiter you have to go a few miles to get to that depth but in Boynton Beach you only have to go a quarter mile maybe a half depending
