Hey guys, Merry Christmas! Hard to believe 1994 was 30 years ago... it was an amazing time to be alive. What games did YOU get Christmas 1994? Let me know, and Merry Christmas to you and your families!
My best memory was my dad bringing home the PS2 slim. My fat PS2 laser had just died a few weeks prior and I was none the wiser to the slim even existing. I still remember how big my smile got when my dad walked through the door with it over his head. Thanks dad
1994 is when we got out SNES. My parents used some cheaper wrapping paper that was pretty thin. My older brother figured out if he put the Christmas lights from the tree up to the paper you could see through it. We knew the SNES was coming but we worked on pretending to be surprised the night before. Got Donkey Kong Country as well from my Grandparents.
Christmas of 94 was super important to me. It's the year that I got my first console to call my own. I got a Game Gear for Christmas and it came with Sonic 2. I played that game to death. So much that I learned how much battery life the Game Gear eats up that day. And Sonic 2 itself was an experience I will never forget. I've never played a game so hard at that time. I never got past the first zone because I kept dying on the boss and it doesn't help that you don't get any rings on the boss acts. But I was very happy that I got that gift for Christmas and I still have it to this day. Merry Christmas Tyler and to your family. And Merry Christmas to everyone else and their families on the panel.
Merry Christmas Tyler and everyone else out there still enjoying the classics 30 years later. I was actually living in Houston going to Stephen F Austin HS in 1994, MK2 was the game I was gunning for even though it had technically come out in September. Thanks so much for sharing this and inspiring my own walk down memory lane!
So many great video game memories on Christmas morning. Even to this day, I’m 44 and last year I was surprised to receive a PS5. Truly blessed. Wonder what tomorrow morning may bring!
Christmas 30 years ago? Hell, i spend every christmas these days STILL breaking out a stack of games from NES, SNES, N64, and PS1! Im playing Super Mario 64 as I type this!
I'm having a (mostly) 90's themed Christmas this year. 41 retro games in total. Mostly Mega Drive. Some Master System, some PS1 and 2 games. 1 Snes game and 1 N64 game. Just games I played as a kid that I have been meaning to add to my collection for a while but never got around to it. Only a few hours until it's daylight and I can act like a kid and start my 90's themed Christmas Day
I was 2 years old in 94, BUT I grew up playing my older cousins snes and my younger cousins genisis. My first console was a n64 for Christmas in 98. Love the videos man, brings back alot of memories. Merry Christmas
@@MyRetroLifeThanks! And you know, my copy of Gunstar Heroes didn’t come with a Fruit Roll-Up, but I’m not bitter! Contra Hard Corps might be more satisfying to complete, but I say Gunstar is the best 16-bit run and gun ever.
I remember my son playing all these games. Back then we only had one tv so I would sit and watch him. I would have to buy another tv for him for games but how that brings back so many memories.
God wow, 1994 was when my mom got me FF6/FF3 US for Christmas. I got Secret of Mana the year before. Such a great frigging game. It took me 2 years to get around to beating the game in full but it was worth it. Sometime later, I recall me and my old friend Armand exchanged systems. He had a Sega Genesis. From there, I got hooked on Phantasy Star while he got introduced to FF6 and Chrono Trigger. So many great memories of those happier times.
That year I got NHL 95,WWF Raw and NFL ‘95 for Genesis. Also got a Game Gear with Raw,NFL ‘95, WWF Steel Cage Challenge,NBA JAM, Bart vs The Space Mutants and a couple Poker Face Paul games.
1994 was a wild Christmas because my family moved across the US from my childhood home. I got Fatal Fury 2 for Genesis and loved it. But I saw king of Fighters 94 for the first time in an arcade and it was all I could think about!! It inspired me to finally buy my own Neo Geo 6 years later.
Christmas of '94 was my "Super Nintendo" Christmas. It was the most magical special Christmas I can remember. I got my SNES with the mail in copy of Mario All-Stars, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Secret of Mana and Link to the Past. So many wonderful memories. Love all your videos Tyler. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Great episode Tyler and dudes! I loved Donkey Kong Country so much as a kid. I played it for hours and still pop it in to play today. I’m almost 40 years old. It is a timeless gem
I don't remember getting much gaming wise for 1994 but I got the Sega Saturn the next year for Christmas and it's still one of my favorite consoles I play it regularly to this day
You had such a good father and parents its only right you had a beautiful family of your own ..The timeline of your 90s experiences are so therapeutic . I watch some scenes from the 90s and I'm transported back . Thanx for sharing
The Christmas of 1994 was the Christmas that I got the Digital Video Cartridge for my CD-I and was finally able to play The 7th Guest. I also got Mad Dog Mcree that year as well. It's kind of sad because now that I actually think about it, 1994 was the last year that I received any video games for Christmas.
1994 I was 8 years old and living in Bangladesh. Came to Toronto Canada November 1995, and Sega Genisis with Sony and 🏍 racing game was waiting for me at my dad's place. Good old days.
I know this wasnt 1994 But I still remember Christmas 2010, my mom gifted me a Nintendo Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl. Those were 2 of the final gifts I got from her before she passed away on August 1st, 2011. It saddens me to this day that my Christmas hardly is ever the same again without her. :(
My family didn't get our SNES until Christmas of 94. I was 6 years old about to be 7 and my little brother was 4...My Dad had VHS footage of us playing Super Mario World on Christmas and we thought it was just the best thing ever...then we got Super Mario All Stars and Donkey Kong Country that year to follow...Maan so nostalgic. Great video Tyler!!
In 1994 I won a Game Gear and Sonic 2 for Game Gear in the summer, through a contest. On Christmas of ‘94 I got 2 Game Gear games, Mortal Kombat 2 and NHL Hockey, and I was happy. 1994 was an amazing year for video games. It was nice to hear you guys reminisce about your Christmas memories. Merry Christmas!
Christmas of ‘94 was my first Christmas after being born. Too young to game, but still love these 90s memories of a time I was around for, but simply can’t remember. Thanks for this video for those of you who were born in the 80s but got to share this with us for 1994 babies.
Merry Christmas, Tyler! Thank you so much for your wonderful content I discovered this year and seeing the excellent videos that bought back SO many memories
The story of your father is amazing, my father passed from MND this year and I remember Christmas 1994 and getting sonic and knuckles and I was so happy, thank you for the memories dad!
Merry Christmas Tyler! A lot of my favorite games came out in 1994 Sonic 3 and knuckles Final Fantasy VI, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid. Doom etc. hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and God bless
Your stories about the Christmas of '94 in New York are among some of my favorites. That's the kind of Christmas you'd want to trap in a bottle; but your dad actually did just that. Awesome! 1994 was the year I got a part time job and started buying my own games. It was also my senior year of high school so I remember it well. I took down Final Fantasy III (VI) on Christmas Day
It's sad that Sega doesn't make consoles now. Those were great days, for sure. Unless you were there back in the day, you will never feel how good it was it was like lightening in a bottle.
My Dad always bought me what system I ever wanted. Sega genesis to sega cd (Sonic CD & sewer shark) to 32x (Virtua Racing & Doom) to, nope not Saturn. But Yes, the Sony PlayStation with Destruction derby & Mortal Kombat 3. I was wise with this choice. God, it was always a great Christmas in the early to mid 90's, the smell of new electronics. 🫠 Merry Christmas, Tyler and everyone.
94’ was a great year as a 6-7 year old. I definitely was rockin all the way on the genesis model 2 at the time. Sonic 3, MK2, Streets of rage 3 and other games at the time. I miss those days. Can’t believe it’s been 30 years. Merry Christmas!
God bless you all for doing such a warm and heartfelt video … so many many amazing memories as a child and teen playing this games finally on 1997!!! Final fantasy 3 and donkey Kong country are on my top list of memories !!! Closest system to have a soul like the snes to me have been the nintendo switch !!! Can’t wait for that Super Nintendo switch or switch 2 to finally come out 😂! Cheers 🍻!
Great video and happy holidays. I remember getting 32X and Doom and playing all day while my brother got Donkey Kong Country for his SNES. Great times.
30 years ago just takes away from my breathing hahaha!! Where did the time go!?!?Anyways… Rocket knights adventure, and sonic and knuckles were stocking stuffers for me. Merry Christmas, Tyler, and to all of the community of my retro life!
Love that dude's Metal Gear shirt and I love your channel, Tyler. I wish I could remember the specific games I got in the early 90's. I think one of my uncles got us Super Mario 3 in the Christmas of 94 but I'm not positive. The earliest video game Christmas I remember with certainty is getting a PS1 with Final Fantasy VII, Croc and Twisted Metal in 1997. That's what REALLY kickstarted my love of video games. I loved my Genesis and NES prior to that, but from 97 and on was when I started researching games, reading the magazines, etc.
Donkey Kong Country made my childhood.. I used to play this with my best friend back in the mid 90’s on a small 14 inch TV. The TV was tiny but it didn’t matter. The game was perfect!
Xmas 1994 was special to me for a whole different reason: My first video game console. Earlier that year, Britney Spears uncle was my barber (FYI, she wasn't quite so famous yet. Didn't realize they were related until her Hit Me Baby video came out years later). While his wife was doing my grandmother's hair, he tells me "There is a Super Nintendo in the back room. There are some boys playing it there & they'll show you how to play it". They were playing Super Mario Kart and my mind was BLOWN! It was magical for me! Now I was BEGGING my parents for one but kept saying they couldn't afford it. Come Xmas 1994, my grandmother (RIP 2017) got me a SNES, Super Mario Kart, and Donkey Kong Country. I remember having NO CLUE about DKC back then. I immediately loved the game but it was my first platformer ever so I didn't understand how GREAT it was yet until much later on. Ever since, it's THE Xmas that started my love for video games! Then 20 years later, I ended up working on a video game that won 2014 Game of the Year! Crazy how that came full circle!
I got Donkey Kong Country for Christmas of '94. My Dad also bought Super Punch Out!! and outright gave it to me when it was supposed to be saved for a gift. I remember playing DKC a lot during a snow storm that occurred over Christmas break. What great memories.
I think that's the year we got a SNES with DKC included, and SM All-Stars and Super Metroid not long after. Those were the big ones for me at the time. I also borrowed various earlier SNES games from friends and relatives to catch up around that time or the next year, like SCIV, SMW, Soul Blazer and A Link to the Past. The GB got almost as much playtime thanks to Wario Land, Ducktales 2, Link's Awakening and Donkey Kong' 94, and the family traveling abroad. I didn't completely ignore the MD/GEN that year/period, I played NHL '95 intensely for a while and a bunch of Mickey Mania, Lion King and Jungle Book as well, but definitely missed out on some of its best games from that year. I really was hooked on Nintendo for a while there, having wanted to own various SNES games for a few years already. I could be mixing up years though and some of these were played in 1995, it has been 30 years after all lol.
I think I ever really recall in Christmas 1994 getting Super Mario All Stars and Donkey Kong Country. While I just got 2, it was pretty much me getting 5 games for Christmas that year. I think got Donkey Kong Country because I had Donkey Kong on Game Boy. Then, my family knew the trip to the video store was me going to rent Super Mario All Stars. I didn’t pick anything else new, just Super Mario All Stars, and that’s where they decided to have it for me to keep. As a 5 year old child, there was nothing else better than those for me. If it wasn’t for Super Mario All Stars, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with Super Mario Bros. 3, which is my favorite game of all time. But Donkey Kong Country is also really great too.
To this day, "Sonic & Knuckles" and "Donkey Kong Country" are two of my favorite all-time games. I had the former for the Sega Genesis at my mom's house; I often rented Sonic 3 just to lock it on and play the game as it was intended. I actually played DKC at my local Blockbuster Video store as part of the 1995 Blockbuster World Video Game Championship competition; I wound up finishing 6th in my store (Cedar Hill, TX).
I still remember getting Donkey Kong Country for Christmas! I Had tons of fun with it! I lost that copy somewhere but I got a CIB on eBay later but the memories I have are what remained!
My favorite memories as a 12 year old was getting FF6 on Christmas Eve 1994. I spent many many days playing until I beat it. I somehow got a infinite Gil glitch, which helped along with a glitch that allowed more than one ultima weapon
I have a bittersweet story about Christmas Day 1994. There's one home video I have from that day which I always found frustrating to watch. I was only 2 back then and my parents expected me to open my presents on camera but since I was too young to fully pay attention (though it could also likely be from me being on the Autism spectrum), the video mainly just shows me playing with a toy of Fred Flintstone in his car and some Disney PVC figures in front of a tree full of wrapped presents (which is only seen from a side angle, so you can't see anything) while my parents keep asking me to unwrap a present but I never do. After the tree part, it cuts to me holding my stocking with some Disney straws sticking out and my dad asks me to dump everything out of the stocking so we what's inside, but again, I never do. Aside from what I mentioned and some Ernie and Bert bobbleheads seen in the background under the tree, the only present shown in the video is a plush of Snoopy which seemed to be my favorite present that year since I'm seen holding him for the last part of the video. I remember as a kid asking my parents what were in those Christmas gifts and the stocking, but neither of them remembered. Sometime as an adult, I was looking at action figures from the 1994 live action Flintstones movie since I remembered having them as a kid, and when I saw them new in box, it caused me to have flashbacks of getting them for Christmas in 1994. As ugly as those action figures are with the heads being molded after the actors while being plastered on bodies based on the animated show, I have a soft spot for them since they were part of my early childhood.
Great video. I was in high school in 94. I was a December baby so it was a good month for me. I got Donkey Kong Country for SNES on my birthday. I got Sonic & Knuckles and NBA Live 95 for Christmas. What a great month that was!
It was a strong Christmas for 16-bit games. I was 11 in 1994. Christmas was Donkey Kong Country, Aladdin, Jurassic Park and Tazmania for SNES. Aladdin is surprisingly brilliant (I expected a bad kids game). Have a great Christmas 🙂
Not just your age group . I was 21 years old Christmas 1994 and I couldn't wait to get Donkey Kong Country . Especially after watching the VHS tape that Nintendo sent to me that fall . I had just started dating the woman that is my wife now in the summer of 1994 so I was slowing down a little bit on buying and playing video games because we were going on so many dates . Lol . I was just really blown away with that game . Especially since I started out with the Atari 2600 and then later the NES . I got my SNES Christmas 1991 and the games just amazed me .
Awesome, Thank You Tyler. Happy Holidays to you and your family! Hope you enjoy Christmas and New Year’s with video games and watch Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie! 🙂
I remember in 94 my twin brother and i were really into beavis and butthead and i remember us getting the super nintendo version. My aunt hid it inside the Christmas tree so when we were outside playing football i remember looking into the window where the tree was and seeing the box right in the middle of the tree. i remember yelling to my brother look look! what a great surprise great memory that Christmas ❤

I would have never thought the best days of my life would be the 90s. These videos make me both happy & sad cause that time period was so special.
This comment means a lot to me. I am right there with you. I think about those days all the time.
Sonic & Knuckles was sitting under my tree in 1994. Didn’t get any better than that!
Hey, miss your videos!

Final Fantasy 3 and DKC were my games that year. Man what a flashback. Thanks for the memories.
Merry Christmas Tyler to you and your family.
Same to you! Merry Christmas 🎄
In 1994 I picked up the Sega Saturn from Japan, Virtua Fighter and Myst. Went back to the States and every kid on my block was at my house
For Three Kings Day, that year I got A Link to the Past + SF Turbo + The square fight stick with the screw ball. Epic!
Merry Christmas brother, much love from Canada. 1994 I was definitely playing super nintendo or sega.
I remember that summer. It was awesome. Gunstar Heros was great .
Christmas of 1994 I was getting games like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on SNES, Street Fighter 2, and Super Mario Kart.
I was a repairman for sega..I used to setup and repair consoles for customers..best job ever
A fruit roll up coming with a game sounds awesome 😄 Have a great Merry Christmas 🎅🏻🎄
Only just looked on your channel earlier to see if I’d missed the latest video. Have a good Christmas! 🎅🏻 🎄🎁👍🏻
Same to you!
That Sega pavilion at Epcot was awesome. I remember playing Sonic and Knuckles there as well.
I don’t remember all the games I got Christmas 94 but I remember it was a lot. It really was a special year in gaming.
Flying battery theme is god tier stage music, I still listen to it to this day along with most video game music haha
Really is isn't it?
30 years later and Final Fantasy 3 is the greatest game I've ever played.
Tyleeeeeer
Merry Christmas guys! 🤓🎄🎅🏻

Thanks man definitely thinking of the possibilities
Xmas 94 my whole family got mega sick with the flu but I got Final Fantasy III and Shining Force II. Two of the best games I ever got for Christmas.
I got the flu that year too... ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Donkey Kong Country became my sick game haha
