I’m 53 and I’ve wanted to start a channel since 2016. I finally did 27 days ago and it’s been such a ride!! I’m finding myself get more organized, my whole way of thinking has changed because I’ve loved the process of creating from vacations and places we’ve been to starting my health journey and stuff like that. Learning new things every day. Such a fun experience!! 🎉

I'm 45 and started my podcast in January 2024, I've been consistently posting one full episode every Monday and 1 or 2 shorts per week. I'm very happy with my channel growth so far but am NEVER satisfied LOL. I'm enjoying every second of this process though and am passionate about my mission. At the time of your video, you had 2,000 subs. As I post this, you have over 3,400! You're REALLY DOING THIS!
What I like about you, is that you mentioned you are an engineer, mentioned that you are a perfectionist & that you are never satisfied, BUT you are showing up and doing it and growing a channel!!! Just found your channel thru your viral video. I've seriously committed to my channel 3 weeks ago. i am up 50 subscribers in that time. mine is a faceless channel concentrating on wildlife and nature. i am slowly teaching myself editing. I have some other ideas of thins i want to try and incorporate. but it is really great to watch videos like yours that are very encouraging for those of us just starting out. good luck.

Subscribed! It's amazing how many of us more mature people are creating content! I recently monetized a faceless channel after working on it for a year, but with low views, I abandoned it to start another (with my face!) two weeks ago. Crazy experience, I know you understand, one video went viral with currently 44k views, now I have 3500 watch hours but need 450 more subs. I love this rollercoaster ride. And you're right, being authentic is the key.

Your channel popped in my feed and just wanted to say I’m proud of you for taking the leap✨ I’ve put it off for so long. I used to have old clips on here years ago but since TH-cam has really taken off, I haven’t added a thing🤦🏾♀️ and there’s so much in my phone. One thing I was thinking of doing to take the leap is go over whatever footage of myself or whatever that I already have in my phone thinking of how those clips can be used for maybe a voiceover, with tips 🤷🏽♀️or just in any way period just to get started and build content while recording new content ✨
And don’t let that doubt creep in on u. It happens to the best of us, but your building your tribe. I’m 35 and when I seen your first vid pop up with 500 followers u were already at over 2k now. So yes congrats to u🎉☺️ keep going, doors of opportunity will continue to open for u✨💕

i had almost the same thing i quit my doctor job to chase my dream which is creating videos , my wife and parents they were shocked about my decision , they were kinda supportive in a conservative way , however i started a channel and i hit 100k subs in 6 months but when i reflected on my youtube journey i didnt like it coz i was not authentic , i was just sitting and speaking very formal with fast pace edited videos , it worked but i wasnt happy inside of me , coz that was not the reason i left medicine for , so i quit that channel and start a new one , the one im writing from now , i decided to be 100000% me , natural , authentic , minimal editing and share whatever i like about my journey doing the job i like , of course the growth is very slow but it worth it , so as you mentioned the only way to make it os to be authentic unfiltered

I started a fitness/health/wellness channel last week! Contemplated for a long time, had 2 other gaming channels along the way (4k and 5k subs) but wanted to do something more “real” to me that is a passion. It’s intimidating but hoping to find a stride of growth before too long!

Hi Alexa :) I've been on youtube (as a watcher/consumer) for years and years. I think this is only the 3rd time I have commented on something. I just had to reach out! I just watched your "Just Start" video and could relate to so much of what you said... the journey to starting for yourself was similar to why I left my career and started my business in 2021. (I am a therapist with a private practice). Like you I am in my mid 40's, I'm turning 44 in August. I'm also an expat, I'm British but I live in Norway with my 2 girls who were born here, and my Norwegian partner who is.... lol.... an Engineer of course. I can also relate to so much of what you were saying in your last videos, about authenticity, your values shine through. Also about the sobering and not-so-nice truth that hard work, dedication, and commitment doesn't always come in return when working for an institution...

I just turned 40, and I am considering starting my own channel. I have not found my niche, but I think I just want to do it for myself, and maybe find my "style" as I go. I told my bf today that I really enjoy editing videos and create. And it would just be silly to always say maybe later, I need more skills, I need more content, my life is not interesting etc. I actually created travel vlogs a couple years ago, but never posted them. It is just silly.

Congrats Alexa! I started my first channel in 2021 and it was the best decision I made that year! I was about to turn 40. I'm still learning and growing, and I love it. If you're over 40 and want to start a channel, do it. TH-cam is a great platform to share your knowledge, be creative, discover or reinvent yourself personally and professionally.

I’m 51…..tried a long ago to build my channel but bc pandemic hit to me there was no point since was was makeup content…..the frustration was real…..and my native language it is spanish and that is also very challenging maybe not reach a good number of sub…..but I found your video and that changed my mind set….I just start something diferent and I loveeeeee what I’m doing …..it is crazy setting the camera everywhere😂 thank u for sharing all you experience

I gained over 1000 subs in less than a week just because 2 of my videos blew up and this is helping my other videos that were stuck. My husband support 💯 percent and he makes joke like I will make so much money he can stop working😂. Turning 50 next year and the most important thing is I love it. You have to love it.

I can relate to that fear you hit once you hit 2000 subs! I got that fear at 25, 50, then 200 subs...it really stopped me in my tracks each time. But I'm back at it trying to push past that fear! Thank you for sharing your story 😊

I'm a tiny youtuber with an art related channel and am an aspiring full time illustrator - and I think the hardest thing for me in both realms is to have that objective point of view. Is this good? Is this valuable? Inspiring? Beautiful? One video that I personally *love* is one of my worst performing. I really hope that with time I will find more answers to who I'm talking to, how I can help or bring inspiration, not only in my videos but also with my artwork. I've been struggling with a lot of self-doubt lately. So it's refreshing to see someone else "make it."
Yes, it's tough especially with art related topic because it's so personal. But if you could find a way to step back and look at it as if you were an art critic or your ideal sub, that would be really effective for getting clarity on why or why not videos are performing a certain way. A video I probably spent half an hour editing, has brought the most views on my channel compared to the ones I have spent 15 hours editing...it's a wild game this TH-cam. And I have heard from many youtubers, new and old, that you just never really know how a video will perform. Some of your videos have thousands of views - that's great! Keep going! I started creating and uploading videos and shorts last month, I posted mostly shorts and a handful of long form videos. I leant to create thumbnails and add voiceover etc to my videos last week. While I only had about 30 subs last week. One of my long form videos that I uploaded 4 days ago gained more than 500 views and now I have 50 subs, that’s 20 more than last week, even this got me excited. Hopefully with time and effort my videos will become more professional and find more audiences or vise versa. TH-cam is a great way for me to express myself, my life experiences etc. I hope to get average of 50-100 subs a month, and eventually have a hit video that will explode my channel. Good luck to you!

Yes, the learning curve is massive and there is always something else to learn! It never stops! :) But it is also fun to learn this stuff! Keep going...the first videos are supposed to be garbage...unfortunately. I was thinking about it the other day actually, it's like we are learning a new skill, but unfortunately, that learning process is recorded for the whole world to see. It's not like learning to dance something, where you can trip, fall, and get up and only your teacher or dance partner sees, but here anyone that wants to watch sees! But the thing is here, or what I have found, is that the TH-cam community is so encouraging and lovely, so it makes it less scary or painful to post those first videos. Wishing you the best! xoxo

Can I just say I related to you on so many levels throughout your video. I'm turning 44, I have a 6 and 4yr old cheering me on, with a husband who supports me in the background 😂 I also feel this nervousness about the channel growing too.
