INOKIM OxO Review: Rolls Royce Ride Quality

  • INOKIM OxO Review - (Purchase Link: www.electricscooterinsider.co...) - The INOKIM OxO is a scooter that divides the scootering world. On one side you have the thrill-seekers, who'll think it lacks speed and oomph. And on the other, you’ll have those who are all about build and ride quality, who'll think it's superior to anything else because of these traits. On paper, the OxO isn't slow. After all, it has a top speed of 40 mph. But its sluggish throttle response and lack of urgency make the scooter feel a lot slower than it is. There are a lot of good things, though, and none more so than its rubber suspension and single-sided swingarms. The two combined do a fantastic job at soaking up undulations like a hot knife cutting through butter, while the damping keeps the wheels in contact with the ground below. This, alongside the crisp, sharp hydraulic brakes bring the scooter to a stop in 2.7 meters - which is pretty much unheard of in the world of performance scooters. Whether or not the OxO is the Rolls Royce of the scooter world will depend on if you can let its flaws slide.

Thanks for the review! Was heavily debating between OxO and Vsett 10+R, but ultimately went with the INOKIM OxO for $1699 exactly. That's over $700 cheaper than the Vsett 10+R so I had to do it..
Oh, and it came with a $150 "rider package" that includes helmet, cell phone holder, lock, and front bag. All in which I needed anyways 😃

I'm surprised there's been comments regarding the power/torque of the Oxo. I found that on mine, before I butchered it, the power / take off etc was really good, even lost traction a couple of times. I bought mine in 2021. Not sure if this was a different model to others (battery etc). Mine's pretty 'nippy' now though, lol. So got best of both worlds - power and comfort. Great video / review though, fella, 😊👌🛴💨

Another practical (and yes, enjoyable) review - thank you Josh, please keep 'em coming. A few points (I'm in Ireland) -
    1) Just because an eScooter can do 30+ mph it doesn't mean you HAVE to - speed limits are limits, speed bumps mean slow down - just sayin',
    2) I've found that irrespective of where/who we purchase from, the general European standard applies - 250W continuous - continuous - power output max, 15.5mph max (you paying attention Germany?), whether the warehouse is in Poland and/or Spain [shoutout to our neighbours in Poland and Spain [and Germany] - thank you],
    3) Personally, my criteria are SRR - Safety, Reliability and Range. Remember, eScooters are NOT dainty little toys - a battery failure/front-wheel motor freezup can be fatal - so careful, careful, kiddies,
    4) Speaking of which - at the start of every trip - PLAN TO STOP - others use the roads, bike lanes etc. not everyone adheres to the Rules of the Road (which are based on common sense, imho),
    5) "No helmet? NO WAY" just sayin',
    6) Much like Moores Law in I.T., no matter what 'cutting-edge' eScooter you get today, it'll be somewhat quaint/obsolete within 18 months (tops),
    7) Stick to your budget, individual/personal needs and personal limits - if you don't feel comfortable at certain conditions/speeds - avoid them! I've no problem sedately chugging along at 12mph on my trusty (Lidl) Doc Green ESA800 - perfect [for me].
Stay safe and ENJOY THE RIDE - no problem sometimes slowing down/stopping/dismounting/walking alongside/remounting. Sweet!

    • @daveroche6522
      @daveroche6522 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry - just to confirm I DIDN'T mean Germany, Poland and Spain only - rather hello and shoutout to all fellow eScooterers/eScooterists(?) everywhere (I'm a confirmed cyclist since I was 12 - can drive and have had a few cars but driving just doesn't 'do it' for me). Have fun & stay safe.

    • @TuesThruFri

I don’t know about the Apollo scooters, but I would HIGHLY advise against this Inokim Oxo. I have about 70 miles on mine and the thing is so cheaply built. It is very very very fast, but that the the only good thing about it. The scooter is built with too much cheap plastic. It creaks with every move you make. The throttle sticks in the accelerate position constantly and the suspension is clunky and not great. The brakes are loud and squeal with even the slightest touch. I have a 2023 and was incredibly disappointed with how expensive this scooter is. If you cut the speed in half and asked me how much I think this scooter costs, I’d guess around $400. It’s a toy. It’s fun for sure, but only because of the easily accessible power. The rest of the riding experience is pretty bad.

    DON’T BE FOOLED,ITS A UK CLASS L3 MOTORCYCLE:
The government at the start of the eScooter consultation made it clear in writing that it would not in anyway be modifying the UK’s current L3 motorcycle classification to include eScooters.
Thus any vehicle with 2 wheels inline that can exceed 28mph and has a front wheel rim size of less than 12” is classed as an L3 motorcycle like the L3 motorcycle being featured in this video.
So consequently it and any eScooter that can go over 28 mph is and never ever will be road legal in the UK and could earn you six points on your license.

He completely left off the most irritating aspect of this scooter . He did correctly point out that it takes a long time to build speed but he didn’t point out that disappointingly ,running contrary to what one would expect given its low acceleration , that the scooter often jerks when you try to accelerate . You sort of get the initial impression that this thing is about to take off but the surge only lasts long enough to be extremely annoying . Yeah ,you get better at working the throttle over time but it’s still very annoying .
The hardest thing to understand is how he can describe it as a “super smooth scooter” . The benefits of the amazing suspension are completely canceled by the jerkiness of the throttle . But its not just that the throttle is jerky- It’s unnecessarily difficult to control speeds . Jimmy Chang does a good job explaining the problem . th-cam.com/video/OUq9ADjR3ho/w-d-xo.html%C2%A0
It’s almost as if this person has never ridden a scooter equipped with sinewave controllers. While there are not many of these ,there is little doubt that for those who prioritized a smooth ride ,those scooters would be a better choice . It seems to me that he deliberately left them out of the review to allow the oxo to win in one of his two stated categories (Performance and ride quality. ) In fact there is one scooter that in my view is better than the oxo in almost every category including ride quality - the Kaabo Mantis V2 - fluid Edition with the 24.54 Ah battery . Not only is it’s acceleration buttery smooth but it gets up to speed much much faster than the oxo . But to be clear , the oxo reigns supreme when it comes to suspension and handling and thus it should come as no surprise that it is better off road . From a ride quality prospective , these advantages the oxo has, while important, are dwarfed by the advantage the V2 - fluid Edition has over it in the smooth acceleration category . Here is a side by side comparison looking at other key factors -Oxo Vs Mantis V2 - fluid Edition (Source Electric scooter guide tested results- electric-scooter.guide/comparisons/compare-electric-scooters/)
Top speed- 59.1 kph Vs 60.1 kph
Range 58.9 km Vs 59.7 km (Extrapolated from electric scooter guide’s data base-Despite the oxo having the slightly bigger battery 25.6 vs 24.54Ah-)
Hill climb speed 21.90 kph vs 26.89 kph
    Acceleration
Zero to 24 kph 3.8 vs 2.2 seconds
    Zero to 32 kph 5.1 vs 3.3
    Zero to 40 kph 6.8 Vs 4.8
    Zero to 48 kph 9.6 Vs 6.9
    Zero to 56 kph 16.7 Vs 10.5
Weight 33 kg Vs 31 Kg
Water resistance rating none Vs IPX 5
Breaking 2.6 meters Vs 2.9meters (The Oxo has about the best breaking but loses every place else despite costing about $400 more )

WARNING: This scooter has it's downsides, though I would say it's pretty amazing. The brakes will probably rub on the disk as soon as you get on and will continue to do so until you align it. (unfortunately there's no way to completely have it not rub off and on, but would rather have it rub while not on it.)
The throttle needs to be kicked off first before it'll go, so going up hill if steep can be really, really challenging as you can't kick off going straight up a steep hill.
The scooter is mildly water resistance. There's a vent right near the front tire that water can go in straight to the electronics board.
The brake lines may be leaking. (mine was leaking upon receiving it and still don't know how to fix it without a bike shop doing the repair.)
The acceleration is very jerky, I have let friends try it and fall off immediately from it accelerating too fast. (personally I learned to get used to it and love it because I can just immediately go.)
The tubes may become deflated because they can get pinched in the wheels. They don't offer tires that are solid without tubes (mind blowing because they would be perfect for something this powerful.)
the back guard will not last. For anybody. It comes off very easily and will come off when you go over a strong bump.
Apart from all that, it's an amazing scooter though.

The review is not doing justice to how waterproof this scooter is. Just because it doesn't claim an IP rating doesn't mean it's not well waterproofed: indeed it is easily one of the better performing scooters of its class. IP54 or IPX4 the others have doesn't even mean waterproof, it just means splash resistant, which isn't by any means waterproof. The OXO on the other hand has proper thick rubber deck gasket, deck screwholes don't open into the deck compartment at all, all the wires from the deck are well sealed, there's Loctite on practically all screws, and both the controllers and battery are hermetically sealed. The scooter is so water resistant in fact that after additional waterproofing service, my local dealer sells for it an actual water damage guarantee, which you seldom see with scooters.
Other significant upsides are thumb throttle and quiet sinewave controllers, even if they have their own quirks like deliberately gradual acceleration. Single sidearm makes it relatively easy to replace tires and tubes, compared to some scooters which require tools like a heat gun to dislodge the motor from the split rim.

    • @ElectricScooterInsider
      @ElectricScooterInsider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree it's a great scooter - one of my favourites! You are correct that IP54 and IPX4 ratings do not equate to waterproofing but instead splash proofing. However, the OxO doesn't have any form of certified IP rating which by official standards means it can't compare to scooters that do (even if it's build quality is exceptionally good - which it is)

The OX is RUBBISH owned the new scooter for 6 months to discover the platform made of brittle, hard 'plastic' CRACKS, the brakes need 'continual' adjustment at the inokim store (how convenient) heaven forbid you accidently let go of the scooter and it falls sideways it will SNAP the stem at the hinge. Compared to my NINEBOT MAX30 the inokim ox is way over priced being cheaply built using cheap materials.

Only bigger repair was rear bearing witch I made. So it still feels like a new and I don't see any reason why I won't drive another 6000 km this year.
